Shocking Study Reveals Almost Every Hit Record Is About Having Or Wanting Sex

Via the Atlantic:
"Approximately 92% of the 174 songs that made it into the [Billboard] Top 10 in 2009 contained reproductive messages," says SUNY Albany psychology professor Dawn R. Hobbs in Evolutionary Psychology. That's right--"reproductive messages," our newest favorite euphemism. Those 174 top-selling songs were analyzed in order to determine how many sexy messages they contained in any of 18 sexy categories, including "arousal," "sexual prowess," and "genitalia." There was an average of 10.49 sex-related phrases per song, with R&B being head-and-shoulders(-and-maybe-some-other-body-parts) above the two other musical genres analyzed, country and pop. "Sexual appeal" was the most popular theme among both R&B and pop songs, while "commitment" (yawn) was most prevalent in country music.

Slaggie Gilamonster: Gays Hate Marriage Because They Suffered As Children

"I walked into the heart of the gay marriage debate to defend one great principle of truth: Marriage is the union of husband and wife because children long for their mother and father. But this the gay elites cannot tolerate -- not the idea that anyone can see our Christian moral tradition as good. To the gay rights movement, a strong moral confidence in the goodness of our marriage tradition is in itself the core moral offense, which requires disciplining, punishing, silencing, shunning. Why? So that legitimate pity for the gay man, and his suffering as a child, can be turned against the moral authority of chastity, for that system of sexual ethics that begins not with our desires but with our responsibility to discipline and elevate them." - Unchaste unwed mother Maggie Gallagher, in her nationally syndicated column.

Lease With Option To Buy

Mexico City is considering offering temporary marriage licenses. If things aren't working out after the agreed upon trial period, you just walk away.
Leftists in the city's assembly — who have already riled conservatives by legalizing gay marriage — proposed a reform to the civil code this week that would allow couples to decide on the length of their commitment, opting out of a lifetime. The minimum marriage contract would be for two years and could be renewed if the couple stays happy. The contracts would include provisions on how children and property would be handled if the couple splits. "The proposal is, when the two-year period is up, if the relationship is not stable or harmonious, the contract simply ends," said Leonel Luna, the Mexico City assemblyman who co-authored the bill.
Even though the plan would reduce the number of divorces, the Catholic Church is furious at the mere thought of not being shackled to another person for eternity. Of course!

NOM Launches Billboard Campaign Against Pro-Marriage New York State Senators

NOM has launched a billboard campaign intent on unseating the New York state senators who voted for marriage equality.
"Just like David Weprin discovered earlier this month when he faced voters after redefining marriage, Mark Grisanti, Stephen Saland, James Alesi, Roy McDonald and Shirley Huntley will soon discover that the people of New York will not sit idly by while the institution of marriage is redefined without voters having any say in the matter," said Brian Brown, president of NOM. "NOM and our Let The People Vote" coalition will not rest until these legislators are turned out of office and the people of New York are allowed to vote on the definition of marriage."
As everybody well knows, marriage equality will never come to a public vote in New York state. NOM's campaign is really meant to terrorize legislators in other states.

SERBIA: Belgrade Pride Canceled Over Fears Of More Neo-Nazi Rioting

Saying they fear a repeat of last year's violence, the government of Serbia has canceled this weekend's pride celebrations. Last year Serbian riot police battled hundreds of neo-Nazi anti-gay rioters at Belgrade Pride, fighting back against hurled Molotov cocktails with stun grenades. Over 100 injuries were reported and almost 200 rioters were arrested.
"The ban was issued in line with the law on public gatherings which prescribes such a measure in cases of probable disruption of public transport, threats to public health or safety of people and property," Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Friday. Traditionally conservative societies across the Balkans have been slow to accept open homosexuality and many gay rights events in the region have ended in violence. Another government official said that Serbia's National Security Council, comprised of heads of police, security agencies, the military and President Boris Tadic, ordered police to cancel the event after security assessments indicated "extremely serious security threats." "Our intelligence indicated hooligans are poised to attack gay activists, police, media, offices of political parties, foreign businesses, embassies and burn cars," the official said.
The leader of the Serbian Orthodox Church: "I would call this pestilence a parade of shame which is smearing human dignity and the holiness of life and family."

CANADA: National Post Apologizes For Running Anti-Transgender Ad

Canada's National Post has apologized for publishing a nasty anti-trans ad paid for by the anti-gay Institute for Canadian Values. Many thanks to ALL of the 488 JMG readers who clicked out on the complaint form! (You were all Canadians, right? Heh.)
Earlier this week the National Post ran an advertisement that has caused some controversy. The ad, bought by the Institute for Canadian Values, argued against aspects of the Ontario school curriculum that include instruction about certain aspects of human sexuality. Specifically, it objected to teaching young children — those between junior kindergarten and Grade 3 — about transsexual/transgender/intersexed/two spirited issues. The National Post has procedures in place for vetting the content of advertising, especially advocacy advertising. The procedures are intended to ensure that such ads meet a standard of tone and respect that is consistent with furthering constructive dialogue about important public policy issues. In this case, those procedures were not followed. An ad that should not have run in its proposed form was allowed to run. This ad will not run in the National Post again.
The paper adds that it will donate the income from the ad to an LGBT rights group. Thanks haters! No, really!

Bill Donahue: Gay Marriage Doesn't Exist

Because the Vatican says it doesn't. Or something.
No one really believes that two men can marry, and this includes those homosexuals deemed "married" in states that entertain this fiction. There is only one teaching body in the Catholic Church, the Magisterium, and it neither recognizes nor sanctions social arrangements that compete with marriage.
You know what really doesn't exist?

CANADA: Supreme Court Rules Drug Injectors Clinic Is Constitutional

Canada's Supreme Court has ruled that a Vancouver health clinic for intravenous drug users is an allowable exception to the nation's drug laws. Even though the clinic's clean needles and HIV testing services are credited with reducing the incidence of AIDS, conservative groups opposed its operation because local police overlooked drug possession and usage laws within.
"Insite saves lives. Its benefits have been proven. There has been no discernible negative impact on the public safety and health objectives of Canada during its eight years of operation," the ruling said, written by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. If Insite wasn't allowed to operate it would prevent injection drug users from accessing the health services offered at the facility, threatening their health and their lives, the ruling said. Withdrawing the exemption would even undermine the purpose of the federal drug law, which includes public health and safety, the court said. The Supreme Court said that if the health minister, currently Leona Aglukkaq, receives applications for more exemptions, she must continue to exercise her discretion and aim to strike a balance between Charter rights and protecting public health and safety.
HIV/AIDS activists in British Columbia are celebrating the ruling. (Tipped by JMG reader Mike)

Pentagon OK's On-Base Weddings

The Pentagon says that military chaplains may now conduct same-sex weddings on base or anywhere else.
The ruling announced Friday by the Pentagon's personnel chief follows the Sept. 20 repeal of a law that had prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. Some members of Congress have objected to military chaplains performing same-sex unions, saying it would violate the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. The Pentagon says a military chaplain may officiate at any private ceremony, but isn't required if it would conflict with his or her religious or personal beliefs. The Pentagon also says Defense Department property may be used for private functions, including religious and other ceremonies such as same-sex unions, as long as it's not prohibited by state or local laws.

Brian Brown: The Manhattan Conspiracy Will Destroy All American Values

Much like the GOP likes to characterize anything from the Democrats as "San Francisco values," NOM has begun calling the marriage equality movement "the Manhattan conspiracy." Because you know what's in Manhattan? Jews, dirty queers and illegal brown people!
Gay-marriage advocates from Bloomberg to Tim Gill to Ken Mehlman look across the pond and see that the party of Margaret Thatcher, the "Conservative" Party in Great Britain, is now threatening to pass a gay marriage bill. Could the same thing happen to the party of Ronald Reagan? Not while you and I live and breathe and exercise our God-given ability to act! But the point person for this quiet new effort has now emerged: Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced that she would co-sponsor the bill to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act— becoming the first Republican to sign on to Manhattan Rep. Jerrold Nadler's (D-NY) legislation. The Manhattan conspiracy against the Manhattan Declaration principles—respect for life, marriage and religious liberty—has now begun!
Brian Brown: "The laws of nature, and of nature's God, cannot be gainsaid by any merely human power, whether it is the will to evil, or merely the will to self-deception, or even ignorance of the truth."

Busted Preacher: The Gays Did It

Anti-gay activist Pastor Harris Himes, who yesterday surrendered in Montana on six felony fraud counts, told reporters that it was the gays (and others) who set him up.
Himes was required to surrender his passport and will next appear in District Court on either Oct. 6 or Oct. 20. He didn't keep a low profile after leaving the Ravalli County jail, though. Peter Christian of KGVO radio's "Talkback" show mentioned the charges against Himes on Thursday morning and Himes called in to respond. He told Christian he is an attorney, but knows better than to represent himself. Himes went on to claim that gay and pro-abortion activists may be behind the charges against him and co-defendant James "Jeb" Bryant, another self-proclaimed pastor. Himes further claimed that State Insurance Commissioner Monica Lindeen may also be behind the charges because of political disagreements they've had in the past. Other callers quickly, and forcefully, called him out for making groundless accusations.
Himes is also an attorney who volunteers for the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund. He maintains a blog on Andrew Breitbart's Big Government site.

Ninth Circuit Court Dismisses LCR Appeal To Have DADT Declared Unconstitutional

Saying that the issue was rendered moot by last week's implementation of the legislative repeal of DADT, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned a lower court's ruling that the law was unconstitutional. That case was brought by the Log Cabin Republicans, who have continued to press the issue should another administration attempt to reinstall the law.

Chris Geidner reports at Metro Weekly:
The Ninth Circuit panel -- made up of circuit judges Arthur L. Alarcin, Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain, and Barry G. Silverman -- issued the decision per curiam, meaning the decision was issued for the court and not in the name of any particular judge. Once the court decided to dismiss the case because of the repeal of 10 U.S.C. 654 -- the DADT statute -- the decision did not address the underlying issue at trial of the constitutionality of DADT. In the LCR statement, R. Clarke Cooper, the group's executive director, said, "The ruling in Log Cabin Republicans v. United States is the reason why Congress finally acted to end this failed and unconstitutional policy. This decision by the Ninth Circuit denies more than 14,000 discharged gay and lesbian servicemembers an important means of obtaining justice for the wrong perpetuated against them under the ban, and leaves open the possibility of future violations of servicemembers' rights.

MONTANA: Leading Anti-Gay Activist Charged With Six Felony Fraud Counts

Pastor Harris Himes (above, at the microphone), the most well-known anti-gay activist in Montana, has been charged with six felony counts of theft and fraud related to a business scheme he allegedly orchestrated with another pastor.
Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman said Harris Himes turned himself in Wednesday morning after learning that there was a warrant for his arrest. District Judge James Haynes issued bench warrants on Tuesday for Himes and James "Jeb" Bryant after attorneys for the state Office of the Commissioner of Securities and Insurance filed six felony charges against the two. The charges included theft, fraud, conspiracy to commit both, failure to register a security and failure to register as a salesman of same. According to court records, Himes and Bryant claimed to own a business, Duratherm Building Systems, and promised at least one investor a large return on his $150,000. But the investor claimed to have never received any returns or confirmation of sale, nor could he get his money back.
According to the above-linked story, Harris frequently testified and campaigned against proposed pro-gay legislation. We know him here on JMG as part of the Not In My Bathroom anti-transgender rights group.

In February of this year I posted video of Himes testifying that homosexuality was a "sin worth of death" and therefore gay people should not be allowed to rent homes in Montana. Thanks to Himes and others, Montana's state legislature then passed a bill outlawing all LGBT rights laws, at any level in the entire state.

RELATED: Himes is also the president of the far fringe-right Montana Eagle Forum and in his dual role as pastor/lawyer he performs pro bono work on behalf of the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund. He blogs at Andrew Breitbart's Big Government site.

GOProud Board Member Ann Coulter Endorses Booing Of Gay Soldier

"Only eight Republicans in the entire U.S. Senate supported eliminating Don't Ask, Don't Tell. It's safe to assume that no one on the stage supported this sexualization of the military, except maybe one of the nut candidates polling at 3 percent. This is not an anti-gay position; it's a pro-military position. The basic idea is that sexual bonds are disruptive to the military bond. Soldiers, sailors and Marines living in close quarters who are having sex with one another, used to have sex with one another or would like to have sex with one another simply cannot function as a well-oiled fighting machine. A battalion of married couples facing a small unit of heterosexual men would be slaughtered." - GOProud board member Ann Coulter, endorsing the booing of a gay soldier during last week's GOP debate.

CANADA: Christian Group Publishes Anti-Trans Ad In National Paper

The viciously anti-gay Institute for Canadian Values today published the above trans-bashing ad in the National Post. The ICV, like so many American anti-gay Christianist groups, wants to legitimize the bullying and bashing of LGBT children.

Tweet Of The Day - PFAW

While the Family Research Council has wisely kept Bryan Fischer's name off the Values Voter Summit website, the convention's timetable reveals that Fischer is scheduled to take the podium immediately after Mitt Romney.

People For The American Way reacts:
People For the American Way president Michael Keegan urged Romney and his fellow presidential candidates to denounce Fischer’s bigotry before appearing with him at the event. “Bryan Fischer’s stunning record of public bigotry would make him a pariah in any sane political movement,” Keegan said. “But his long record of hate speech doesn’t seem to bother the supposed ‘mainstream’ GOP politicians like Mitt Romney and Rick Perry who are sharing the stage with him at an event sponsored by his employer. Candidates don’t have to agree with the views of everyone they appear with – but they should be wary of lending legitimacy to those who peddle hate and fear of their fellow Americans. If Mitt Romney wants to appeal to mainstream audiences, he should publicly disassociate himself from Fischer’s bigotry before handing him the podium."
Aside from Fischer's outrageous lies about LGBT people that are so often reported here on JMG, he's also said that the First Amendment only applies to Christians, that Native Americans shouldn't have the right to own property, and that black women "rut like rabbits" in order to produce welfare babies.

Will ANY of the GOP candidates react to PFAW's call?

More Promising HIV Vaccine News

While many who work down in the trenches of HIV/AIDS activism have long given up any hope of an effective vaccine in our lifetimes, small glimmers of hope continue to occasionally peek through the clouds. From a small vaccine study in Spain, a result that may reduce HIV to a "minor chronic infection" such as herpes:
The trial demonstrated how the vaccine stimulates the production of lymphocytes B, which produces HIV attacking antibodies that block the virus from infecting healthy cells. Blood tests during the 48th week revealed that 72.7% of the treated volunteers had developed these HIV fighting antibodies. However generating a long lasting response against future attacks truly renders the vaccine effective. This is achieved when the body maintains a basic memory level of T lymphocytes, which are generated after the first attack and can circulate the body for years. The T lymphocytes are responsible for stimulating the attacked cell's immune response, which can then identify and destroy the HIV virus. Blood tests during the 48th week revealed that the 85% of the patients maintained the memory T lymphocytes immune response. "MVA-B immune profile meets, initially, the requirements for a promising HIV vaccine," says Esteban. Although it does not remove the virus from the body, the immune response induced by the vaccine could keep the virus under control by destroying the infected cell.
A new phase of trials with infected volunteers is set to commence. While this and other vaccine studies have showed some promise, most have failed. And none have been shown to work in all subjects.

FRC Backs Anti-Gay NY Town Clerks

"The push for counterfeit marriage isn't about accommodation; it's not even about 'equality.' Even when homosexuals get what they say they want--the redefinition of marriage and the so-called 'benefits' of marriage--they aren't satisfied. Instead, they're intent on driving anyone from a public post that dares to hold a view contradictory to theirs. The goal is to force Christians to check their faith at the doors of public service. The people behind this effort will use the same rhetoric as President Obama, claiming that they support the freedom of worship. But the freedom of 'worship' is vastly different than the freedom of religion. The freedom of worship is what happens on any given Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until noon . The freedom of religion is the ability to live your life according to the precepts of you Christian faith--as Rose Marie is attempting to do." - Tony Perkins, head of Family Research Council.

ILLINOIS: Catholic Charities Loses Bid To Keep Adoption Contract With State

Catholic Charities has lost its request for a stay on the cancellation of its adoption contract with Illinois, a relationship severed by the state when the group refused to serve gay and unmarried couples.
Judge John Schmidt on Monday denied Catholic Charities' request to stay his earlier ruling that the group has no right to state contracts to provide adoption and foster care services. Illinois ended $30 million in contracts with Catholic Charities in four dioceses in July because the organizations' practice of referring unmarried couples to other agencies was discriminatory, a violation of the state's civil union law.
Catholic Charities plans to further appeal to a higher court.

In response to more than 80 arrests during a demonstration Saturday near Union Square, protesters plan to rally Friday afternoon against what they say was “brutal” behavior by cops, and will march from Zuccotti Park, near Wall Street, to the NYPD’s headquarters at 1 Police Plaza. “They have completely lost control,” protester Larry Hales, 34, said of the police’s response, noting that several videos on Youtube appear to show cops shoving, striking and using pepper spray on protesters. “We’re hoping to make demands that they stop targeting the activists down at Wall Street and that the charges are dropped for those that were arrested.” “They haven’t scared activists into going underground,” Hales added. “They’re not going to stop people from protesting.”
It's been learned that the cop accused of pepper-spraying several young women this weekend was sued for using excessive force during the 2004 Republican Convention. Most protesters agree that the majority of the officers they've encountered have been fairly respectful in a difficult situation, but that the NYPD continues to shield their bad apples. Same as it ever was.

NEW YORK: Orthodox Jewish Hate Group Says "Gay" Is Another Name For Satan

Don't Say "Gay Christian"

"First, the phrase designates an unbiblical identity. Christians are new creations. They are those who have died with Christ and whose lives are hidden with Christ in God (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:19-20; Colossians 3:3). Our primary identity, therefore, is not any sin but Christ. For this reason, Christians never speak of 'lying Christians,' 'adulterer Christians,' 'fornicating Christians,' 'murderer Christians,' or 'thieving Christians' -- even though we know sadly that Christians are capable of all kinds of sins. It's unseemly to create labels that define Christians by sins from which they actively and self-consciously seek deliverance. We can be honest about our sin without speaking of it as if it were our identity. The phrase 'gay Christian' creates an identity category that we would not accept for any other sin." - Evangelist Denny Burk, writing in the Baptist Press.

NOTE: Hey Mr. Burk, here at JMG we say "lying Christian" ALL the time! Drop by sometime for the mountains of daily evidence.

Ed Koch Flip-Flops On Obama

Remember how closet case and former NYC Mayor Ed Koch supported an anti-gay Republican for the U.S. House in order to punish the president for "abandoning Israel"? Remember how much mileage NOM has gotten out of that mess? Forget all that, because now Koch says he loves the president again because Obama clearly "got my message."
Koch says he's pleased with Obama's stance on the Palestinians' bid for United Nations membership, urging more talks with Israel before any action is taken. The U.S. vowed to use its Security Council vote to block the Palestinians if necessary. "What I said earlier was that I thought that President Obama had engaged in hostile actions toward the state of Israel, and I wanted to send him a message not to take the Jewish voters for granted," he told the Daily News. "The message was delivered and I noticed that President Obama's speech at the UN and support of Israel were superb."
Koch says he's now "back on the bus" for Obama 2012.

Donna Summer Nominated To Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame For Fourth Time

For the fourth time, Donna Summer is among the fifteen acts nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Summer was also nominated three of the last four years, but has been overlooked despite numerous Grammy wins, including one for Best Rock Vocal Performance. Artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their first commercial full-length record. Here's the full list, from which five will be chosen:
Beastie Boys, The Cure, Donovan, Eric B. & Rakim, Guns N’ Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Freddie King, Laura Nyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rufus with Chaka Khan, The Small Faces/The Faces, The Spinners, Donna Summer, War.
Notably (and shamefully) absent this year is Chic, who has been nominated six of the last eight years, but has never been chosen. Also: Eric B & Rakim? SRSLY?

RELATED: Since some of you are probably wondering, yes, Madonna was inducted in 2008.

Amazon Launches iPad-ish Kindle

Via Atlantic:
Tomorrow Amazon will unveil its answer to the iPad, reports TechCrunch's MG Seigler. "On Wednesday morning in New York City, Amazon will unveil the Kindle Fire. Yes, this is the name Amazon has settled on, to help differentiate the product from the e-ink Kindles, which will still be very much alive and for sale." With Amazon's online retail foothold, its tablet could present a threat to Apple's dominance--at least we think so.
Slightly smaller than the iPad, should retail for around $300.

IRELAND: Gay Man Up For Presidency

Openly gay Sen. David Norris has won the nomination for the presidency of Ireland, a largely ceremonial post.
The independent politician won the support of Dublin city council last night and will run against six other candidates next month. He said he was “absolutely thrilled” at the news. Mr Norris 67, pulled out of the race in August over controversy surrounding a letter of support he had written for a former partner who was convicted of raping a 15-year-old boy. But earlier this month, he announced he would stand after receiving a “consistent outpouring of public support”. He told the Irish Times: “If I can make this kind of comeback I hope to God as president I’ll be able to help the country make the kind of comeback that it and its people deserve.”
The election is October 27th.
