Today In Christian Love™

According to a new book being promoted on Christian sites, if your son ends up dying from AIDS, that's what he gets for defying God.
“He would get of the opinion that God loves us unconditionally no matter what we do,” Rhodes explains. “I told him that that is true but when we live outside of his bounds and we do things that we know we should not then it breaks the relationship with God and we have consequences that we have to live with, and even die with sometimes.”

Concerned Women Are Concernstipated About Herman Cain And Slavery

"Last week Herman Cain said he didn’t support a federal marriage amendment, this week he has backed away from his earlier position on the sanctity of human life. Herman Cain needs to decide whether or not he is a social conservative. The issue of life is like the issue of slavery, it is an inalienable right. The life issue is a dividing line proving whether or not a leader’s moral compass is intact. This is not a point on which social conservative women will negotiate. Cain needs to figure out what he believes." - CWA spokesbigot Penny Nance, who says Herman Cain needs to hate harder if he's going to be elected.

Romney Denounces Iraq Withdrawal

"President Obama’s astonishing failure to secure an orderly transition in Iraq has unnecessarily put at risk the victories that were won through the blood and sacrifice of thousands of American men and women. The unavoidable question is whether this decision is the result of a naked political calculation or simply sheer ineptitude in negotiations with the Iraqi government. The American people deserve to hear the recommendations that were made by our military commanders in Iraq." - Mitt Romney.

Sen. Marco Rubio Lied About His Roots

Most Floridians and indeed much of the GOP are familiar with GOP Sen. Marco Rubio's oft-told tale of his parents desperately fleeing Fidel Castro's Cuba as the revolution shook the island. Such bravery! Such risk! Such drama! Slight problem. It never happened.
A review of documents — including naturalization papers and other official records — reveals that the Florida Republican’s account embellishes the facts. The documents show that Rubio’s parents came to the United States and were admitted for permanent residence more than two and a half years before Castro’s forces overthrew the Cuban government and took power on New Year’s Day 1959. The supposed flight of Rubio’s parents has been at the core of the young senator’s political identity, both before and after his stunning tea-party-propelled victory in last year’s Senate election. Rubio — now considered a prospective 2012 Republican vice presidential candidate and a possible future presidential contender — mentions his parents in the second sentence of the official biography on his Senate Web site. It says that Mario and Oriales Rubio “came to America following Fidel Castro’s takeover.”
In fact, Rubio's parents came to seek a better life in America while Castro was still living in Mexico. Not quite as romantic as a daring midnight escape across the Commie-tossed Gulf of Mexico, is it?

LONDON: Three Women Die Due To Evangelical Fake HIV Healings

Three women in London have died of AIDS after their pastors convinced them that prayers did away with their need for HIV medication.
HIV prevention charity African Health Policy Network (AHPN) says a growing number of London churches have been telling people the power of prayer will "cure" their infections. "This is happening through a number of churches. We're hearing about more cases of this," AHPN chief Francis Kaikumba said. AHPN said it believed the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), which has UK headquarters in Southwark, south London, may be one of those involved in such practices. The church is headed by Pastor T B Joshua, Nigeria's third richest clergyman, according to a recent Forbes richlist. When approached by BBC London, leaders of the church described themselves as Evangelical Christian pastors. The church's website, which was set up in Lagos, Nigeria, shows photos of people the church claims have been "cured" of HIV through prayer.
The below video is posted on one of the church's sites.

President's Citizens Medal Awarded To Lesbian Denied Hospital Visitation

Yesterday President Obama honored Jance Langbehn, who several years ago was denied the right to visit the hospital bedside of her terminally ill partner. Langbehn's story, which had touched the president, prompted (in part) his directive for hospitals to grant visitation rights to LGBT couples. Chris Geidner reports at Metro Weekly:
Lambda Legal brought a lawsuit against the hospital on behalf of Langbehn, which was later dismissed. But, on April 15, 2010, the president took note, directing Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to issue rules prohibiting sexual orientation or gender identity discrimination in hospital visitation at hospitals that receive Medicaid or Medicare funding. And, after issuing that directive, he called Langbehn to tell her the news. In June, Langbehn met in person with the president, and Obama told the audience gathered for the LGBT Pride Month Reception on June 22, 2010, about Langbehn's story -- concluding that the treatment she and he children had faced "was wrong [and] cruel." He also noted that day that the rules would be put into place and that Sebelius would be asking hospitals to adopt the changes even before the rule went into effect.

New York City: Fat Cat Headquarters

New York City is home to more of the "super-wealthy" than any other city.
The city is jam-packed with "ultra-high net worth individuals" - superrich folks worth $30 million or more - according to a new report from Wealth-X, a global wealth intelligence company. There are 7,720 mega-rich people in the city area, the most in the U.S. and a whopping 44% more than distant runnerup Los Angeles, which has 4,350 ultra-high net-worth residents, Wealth-X report said. San Francisco is third with 4,230 and Chicago (2,550) and Washington (2,250) round out the top five. Overall, the U.S. has 57,860 ultra-high net-worth citizens, with 13% of them calling New York home. By comparison, the city only makes up about 6% of the total U.S. population.
The city with the highest average salary is Washington DC.

NYC Cabs Worth $1 Million

These days the safest investment might be a New York City taxi.
A New York City taxi medallion is a tin plate that grants a person the right to operate a yellow cab. On Wednesday, two medallions were sold for $1 million each, the highest price ever. In 1937 when the first medallion was issued, it went for $10. New York City has sold 13,237 medallions over the years. The new ones, when issued, are sold at auction. What this means is that the largest fleets, which often control hundreds of medallions, can easily secure financing. Medallion sales are one of the city's big businesses. In fact, the biggest lender, Medallion Financial, is a publicly traded company and shares a Madison Avenue skyscraper with the Rockefeller Family Fund.
A million bucks for the right to drive a cab. The vehicle is extra.

CALIFORNIA: Court Rules Prop 8 Backers Must Reveal Donor Names

In yet another in a long string of court losses for NOM, a California judge has ruled that the backers of Proposition 8 must reveal the names of their donors. NOM and Protect Marriage had sued to have those names removed from the website of California's Secretary of State.
A federal judge in Sacramento ruled against ProtectMarriage.com and the National Organization for Marriage in a nearly three-year-old lawsuit, saying the two groups failed to prove they should be exempted from the state's campaign disclosure laws. U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr. ruled from the bench after a brief hearing and plans to issue a written opinion later, San Francisco Deputy City Attorney Mollie Lee said. "The winners here are really the voters of California," Lee said. "The First Amendment interest that the judge upheld in his ruling is the interest in having a robust democracy, an informed electorate and vigorous debate."
Yesterday's ruling stipulates that the names of future donors must also be revealed. Don't hold your breath for NOM to comply.

Gay Adoptions Triple In Ten Years

The number of gay couples adopting children has tripled in the last ten years.
"It's a stratospheric increase. It's like going from zero to 60," said Miami attorney Elizabeth Schwartz, who has coordinated more than 100 adoptions for gay and lesbian families in the last year. "I think many really dreamed of doing this but it wasn't something they ever thought would become a reality." About 21,740 same-sex couples had adopted children in 2009, up from 6,477 in 2000, according to the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law. About 32,571 adopted children were living with same-sex couples in 2009, up from 8,310 in 2000. The figures are an analysis of newly released Census Bureau estimates.
About half of those children were adopted from foster care.

Home Depot To AFA: Get Lost

Daily Finance reports that Home Depot is continuing to ignore the demands of the American Family Association, who wants the DIY giant to pull out of all gay-friendly events.
Home Depot is holding its line on the issue: "Our response on this has been and continues to be that we respect the diversity of all people and maintain an inclusive culture," Home Depot spokesman Steve Holmes said in an email. "This is what [Chairman] Frank [Blake] told the AFA publicly at our annual shareholders meeting earlier this year." Home Depot isn't the only high-profile company the AFA has targeted. It has also tangled with Walt Disney (DIS), Procter & Gamble (PG), and PepsiCo (PEP). The AFA, which brags on its website that it has been on "the frontlines of America's culture war" since 1977, insists that it has nothing against gays. All it wants is for corporate America to remain "neutral" in these same conflicts, according to Sharp. That includes both supporting gay causes and marketing to the LGBT community.

BOTSWANA: Former President Calls For Legalization Of Homosexuality

After a year of nonstop bad news, finally a little bit of light from Africa, even if the reasoning isn't exactly what we'd like to hear.
Festus Mogae, the former president of Botswana, has said that homosexuality should be decriminalised to help tackle HIV rates. Speaking to the BBC’s Africa Network, Mr Mogae said that while he does not “understand” homosexuality, gays and lesbians should not be arrested. He said: “I don’t understand it [homosexuality]. I am a heterosexual. “I look at women. I don’t look at other men. But there are men who look at other men. These are citizens. “To protect them and their clients from being infected [with HIV], you have to assist them to protect themselves. I don’t think by arresting them you help them.

CANADA: Court Grants Custody To Former Partner Of Child's Biological Father

In what's being called a precedent setting ruling, a Canadian gay man has won custody of the child he helped raise with his ex-partner, the girl's biological father.
In part of a five-year constitutional battle involving the now eight-year-old girl, Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Suzanne Bensler ruled the man identified as H. is a parent instead of his gay ex-partner, R. Remaining the other parent, stated Bensler in her Oct. 12 decision, is the girl’s biological mother, D. who along with R. has been fighting the case against H. “Should Mr. R wish to pursue parental status ... he will be required to challenge the constitutionality of his limitation,” reads the ruling that includes a publication ban on names that could identify the child. But Bensler states the physical guardianship status of R., “who has acted as primary caregiver following separation” won’t be changed by the ruling. The two men split in 2006 and have since been locked in a court fight that H. says has left him homeless and acting as his own lawyer.

Blackberry Outage = Fewer Car Crashes

Observers carefully note that last week's Blackberry outage "coincided" with a reduction in traffic accidents.
The National reports that traffic accidents in Dubai dropped 20 percent compared to historical averages during the blackout. In Abu Dhabi, accidents dropped by 40 percent, and there were zero fatalities. If you're thinking that this isn't a significant enough sample to show that smart phones and distracted driving are inexorably linked, consider this: There is an accident in Dubai every three minutes. Dubai police chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim pointed out to The National that the accidents resulting from distracted driving "range between minor and moderate ones, but at times they are deadly." Officer Al Harethi took it a step farther, adding "the roads became much safer when BlackBerry stopped working."
So far I've only been rear-ended by a Food Emporium shopping cart. She did drop her iPhone, which was a slight compensation.

Frank Kameny Funeral Fund

Donations are being sought for the funeral costs of Frank Kameny, the legendary LGBT rights pioneer who passed away last year at the age of 86.

Longtime Kameny friend and gay rights advocate Bob Witeck, CEO of Witeck-Combs Communications, said friends and activists who have known Kameny for many years are developing plans for a Kameny funeral that they hope will be held in a public building in Washington. He said Kameny’s friends and associates working on funeral plans are asking members of the LGBT community and supporters from the community at-large to make a tax deductable contribution to HOBS, which has established a Kameny funeral fund. Contributions can be made at here or sent by mail to HOBS, P.O. Box 53477, Washington, D.C. 20009.

RELATED: In a strangely kind column, typically vicious anti-gay activist Michael Brown has posted a tribute to Kameny. It closes: "If we had the opportunity to interact more, I’m quite sure we would have found ourselves passionately divided on many key moral and social issues, but I’m equally sure of this: If there were more people on the side of conservative, biblical values who had the commitment, tenacity, and fearlessness of the late Frank Kameny, the world would be a much better place."

Hate Group: CA Schools Are Going To Mentally Molest Your Children

Save California says that since the effort to repeal SB48 has failed, Christian parents must now remove their children from public schools. Or else they will be "mentally molested."
While some parents may initially find this solution uncomfortable or difficult, my question is this: How much worse does it have to get before you intervene? If a speeding car was on a collision course with your child, wouldn’t you do all you could to rush to rescue your child? And what if you found out someone was planning to sexually molest your child? Nothing could stop you from rescuing your boy or girl. Think about it. If we are so concerned about the physical safety of children, why wouldn’t we also protect their mental, emotional, and spiritual safety? Realize that the raft of school sexual indoctrination mandates imposed on all children in California government schools amounts to mental molestation.

NEW JERSEY: Gov. Chris Christie Denounces Anti-Gay Teacher Vicki Knox

Speaking on a local radio show, today NJ Gov. Chris Christie denounced public school teacher Vicki Knox, who last week posted an anti-gay tirade to her Facebook page.
“I think that kind of example is not a positive one at all to be setting for folks who have such an important and influential position in our society. I'm really concerned about those kinds of statements being made.” Christie went on to say he would “like to see an examination of how that teacher conducts herself in the classroom.”
The Human Rights Campaign approves.
“We applaud Governor Christie for doing the right thing and speaking out against the anti-LGBT vitriol this teacher chose to bring into the classroom,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “Governor Christie’s denouncement sends a very strong message that intentionally and publicly spreading malicious rhetoric and falsehoods about LGBT Americans is unacceptable and cannot go ignored. Now, Union Township school officials must take action that adequately addresses the severity of Ms. Knox’s behavior.”
