Jeebus Would Knock The Shit Out Of You

"Jesus said both to turn the other cheek and to bring a sword to defend oneself. So let’s not simply quote one thing he said as if it were the only thing he said. Furthermore, quoting Bible verses against assault or persecution is not appropriate in regards to MMA, because such verses do not refer to a regulated sporting competition governed by rules where two athletes of similar size and skill agree to a competition. It would be akin to telling a Christian hockey player they could never check anyone into the boards, or a soldier at war or police officer in a crisis to turn the other cheek. Good verse, wrong application." - Pastor Mark Driscoll of Seattle's Mars Hill Church, in a lengthy defense of his ministry's advocacy of mixed martial arts as part of "muscular Christianity," which demands that young men assault each other to prove their faith. (And that they're totally not homogay.)

RELATED: In the above-linked piece, Driscoll says that the popular image of Jesus as a long-haired hippie pacifist is wrong. In fact, Jesus was an aggressive muscular hottie with a crew cut. So there.

ALSO RELATED: Driscoll recently declared that yoga is from Satan and that male masturbation is totally gay because it's sex with a man.

Burning Man To Launch Ticket Lottery

In 2011, Burning Man sold out for the first time in 25 years. Next year, there will be a new way to get tickets.
The process will require ticket seekers to register by price tier during a two-week period that has yet to be announced. They will then go through several lottery rounds for each pricing tier, and the ones that are picked will be billed, organizers said in the Burning Man newsletter, Jack Rabbit Speaks. The announcement was reposted in a discussion forum run by the Burning Man team. The new lottery system will eliminate “the annual ticket sales rush” and begin to “address the challenges of scarcity,” organizers explained.
The federal government limits attendance to 50,000.

Randian Correction Of The Day

Gawker points out that over 100,000 DVD copies of Atlas Shrugged are being recalled because the box insert commits the VERY non-libertarian crime of mentioning "self-sacrifice."
“It’s embarrassing for sure and of course, regardless of how or why it happened, we’re all feeling responsible right now.” says Scott DeSapio, Atlas Productions’ COO and Communications Director “You can imagine how mortified we all were when we saw the DVD but, it was simply too late - the product was already on shelves all over the Country. It was certainly no surprise when the incredulous emails ensued. The irony is inescapable.”
The replacement insert card substitutes that horrifically noble language with the phrase "self-interest." That's more like it!

Broadway Raves For Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman's latest Broadway show officially opened last night and the reviewers are gushing. Even the New York Times' Ben Brantley is swept away:
The impossibly talented, impossibly energetic Mr. Jackman is a glorious dinosaur among live entertainers of the 21st century: an honest-to-gosh old-fashioned matinee idol who connects to his audiences without a hint of contempt for them or for himself. A movie star with a major action franchise (as Wolverine in the “X-Men” series), Mr. Jackman says he’s happiest as a song-and-dance man, the kind who conducts mass flirtation with a wink, a wriggle, a firmly handled melody and maybe a cane and some tap shoes.
If you thought tickets were impossible to find before the above-linked NYT rave, good luck getting one now. The show's limited run is scheduled to end on January 1st, but with a box office bonanza like this, don't be surprised to see a "held over" announcement come late December.

With the successful completion of the original phases of the Northeast Corridor (NEC) Improvement Project offering Amtrak's maximum 150 mph Acela train service between Washington, New York, and Boston, efforts to develop high-speed intercity passenger rail service have expanded beyond the NEC. However, just as the Interstate Highway System took 50 years to complete, the true potential of a fully integrated high-speed intercity passenger rail network will not be achieved or realized overnight.

Syrian Unrest Mounts

The Gay Gestapo Strikes! Again!

The kapos at GOProud have found a sinister link between ousted Oscars producer Brett Ratner and JMG, even though I've never blogged about him. From Chris Barron's just-posted piece on Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller site.
GLAAD is the leading mouthpiece for the gay Gestapo in this country. While pretending to be the vanguard for tolerance and diversity, the gay Gestapo is actually committed to stomping out anyone who doesn’t buy into their radical left-wing political agenda. For all the talk of “tolerance” and “diversity,” it is clear that there is zero tolerance for ideological diversity with the gay Gestapo.

GLAAD’s tag line is “Words and images matter.” Of course, this didn’t stop GLAAD from giving its “Blogger of the Year Award” to Joe Jervis of the blog “Joe My God.” Jervis’s blog, which has been the subject of a Daily Caller story in the past, regularly attacks gay conservatives. As was pointed out in the Daily Caller story from earlier this year, “Jervis’s site is littered with hateful and misogynistic comments on his message boards …”

Unbelievably, Jervis goes as far as allowing calls for actual violence against gay conservatives to stand on his site. On two separate occasions, Jervis has openly ridiculed incidents of violent anti-gay hate crimes against gay conservatives. Apparently, words and images don’t matter to GLAAD’s members as long as the subject of those attacks is someone they disagree with politically.
Everybody got that? We're the "dumb as shit gay left Taliban" and "the gay Gestapo," but don't call THEM any naughty names! Cuz that's just mean! Such language makes Jimmy LaSalvia's frosted bangs positively quiver with lady rage! Oh well, at least they're taking time out from their regular Twitter campaign of calling me fat.

NOTE: As regular readers know, several times a year I post admonishments about comments that threaten physical violence against anybody. As this is one of the highest comment-volume LGBT blogs in the country, I certainly cannot read more than a fraction of what is posted. Please email me if you see any comment making a physical threat, no matter how idle it seems.

UPDATE: Towleroad rips GOProud for this latest bit of batshittery.

UPDATE II: Readers report that their comments are being deleted at Daily Caller. That's kinda funny, considering.

Liberty Counsel On OWS

"These occupiers have as their goal to destroy the very fabric of this nation. During a week honoring all those who have died protecting our God-given unalienable rights, I find this movement particularly offensive because they seek to eradicate the Biblical principles upon which our nation was founded and put in its place a socialistic system that attempts to make big government the savior of all. Why is it people will look every place for a savior yet reject the One who came to save mankind from its sins? Perhaps it’s the same pride and arrogance that leads people to refuse to work, ask me to pay their debts, and squat on land not belonging to them." - Liberty Counsel attorney Rena Lindevaldsen.

NYC Apartment Listed For $88M

Former Citigroup CEO Sanford Weill has listed his Central Park-adjacent apartment for $88M, a price which, if met, would far eclipse the above records.
If the sale of the penthouse closes for anything near that price, it would set a record for the sale of a Manhattan apartment. The limestone building, which was designed by Robert A.M. Stern and developed by Arthur and William Lie Zeckendorf, was designed to echo the spacious apartment layout and traditional look of the grand prewar buildings that line Fifth Avenue and Central Park West but with up-to-date details. When it opened in 2007, it immediately attracted a following among titans of finance and celebrities, including Mr. Weill and Lloyd Blankfein, Sting and Denzel Washington.
Weill says he'll donate the proceeds from the sale to charity. Hmmm.

NOM Launches Petition Campaign To Stop Mythical DOMA Repeal In Congress

Even though everybody on Capitol Hill and every marriage activist (on both sides) knows that the battle to repeal DOMA in Congress is over, today NOM joins the Family Research Council in launching a petition campaign to stop this horrible thing which can never, ever happen. Brian Brownshirt pretends the repeal will come any minute now:
If enacted, the bill would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), jeopardizing the marriage laws of 44 states and steamrolling the will of the American people as expressed in statewide referenda 31 times in a row. And that's why we must ensure it goes no further. DOMA is the one federal law that protects marriage as the union of husband and wife, and protects every state constitutional marriage amendment in the nation. We need you to help us draw a line in the Senate. Together, we can stop this repeal of DOMA dead in its tracks, and stop Senator Feinstein and her liberal friends in the Senate from imposing their values on the entire nation, but only if we act now! Please tell your Senators to vote NO on Senator Feinstein's (D-CA) DOMA Repeal Bill right now! Tell your senators, "I oppose the repeal of DOMA, and I vote!" And please tell your friends and family. Together, we can draw a line in the sand for marriage. It's time to fight back!
They never have a problem with the truth, do they?

Quote Of The Day - William May

"It was disgusting to see adults trivialize marriage by bickering about benefits for gay couples while the rights and interests of children in the marriage of their mothers and fathers were being thrown under the bus. Children have a right to know and be cared for by their mothers and fathers, and government has an obligation to promote the recognition of that right by encouraging men and women to marry before having children. But 'marriage equality' says it should be discriminatory to promote marriage between a man and a woman as having any unique value or benefit for children and society. That is a lie." - William B. Brian Brownshirt On NOM's Iowa Loss

"Our goal in Iowa is to play a constructive role in ensuring that the people of Iowa have the right to vote on the definition of marriage and we intend to see that happen. The leadership of the state Senate has blocked a vote on marriage even though voters in 31 other states have enjoyed that right. We supported Cindy Golding in the 18th Senate District special election because she was committed to allowing a vote on marriage. While we are disappointed that she didn't win this tight election, we have no doubt that we will eventually prevail. Ultimately, democracy will not be denied in Iowa and the people will get their vote." - NOM president Brian Brownshirt, taking two days to acknowledge the Iowa election.

Tony Perkins On DOMA Vote

"Today's vote disrespects Americans across the country who want to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman - and have done as much in the 31 states who have passed statewide referenda in favor of marriage. It will also require Americans in every state to subsidize homosexual couples by using tax dollars to provide them with federal benefits. Marriage is not some prize that liberals can award to a small, vocal and already well-off special interest group. Marriage between one man and one woman was created prior to the formation of any governments and is given benefits by governments because it uniquely contributes to a productive society." - FRC president Tony Perkins.

Senate DOMA Vote Reactions

Log Cabin Republicans
"Today's hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee makes clear what we already knew - that while the nation is fast approaching a tipping point in favor of respecting all marriages, we are not there yet," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "There is much work to be done before we cross the finish line. Today's hearing was a principled discussion about the meaning of federalism, the priorities of our nation in a challenging time, and what marriage means in America today. Passing the Respect for Marriage Act will require determined and strategic outreach to leaders on both sides of the aisle, and the courageous leadership of more Republicans like Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), who has already signed on to DOMA repeal."
National Gay & Lesbian Task Force
“This vote marks an important step toward recognizing our common humanity, and moves us closer to ending a grave injustice against thousands of loving, committed couples who simply want to provide and care for each other as other married couples are allowed to do. It is shocking and an outrage that, in modern-day America, legally married same-sex couples are being singled out and selectively denied fundamental rights by their own federal government. The Respect for Marriage Act respects and protects the rights of these couples to live free of this government-sponsored discrimination. We thank the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing this bill today, and urge the full Senate to follow suit. DOMA has only served to hurt families, and it is long past time to wipe it from the books once and for all.”
Freedom To Marry
“Today’s vote represents real progress toward a repudiation of the radically unfair, misnamed Defense of Marriage Act,” said Evan Wolfson, founder and President of Freedom to Marry. “We are one step closer to eliminating DOMA’s gay exception, which unfairly withholds the federal protections and responsibilities of marriage from loving and committed same-sex couples who are legally married.” The committee held its first-ever hearing on the bill in July, when witnesses harmed by the discriminatory law and experts including Wolfson testified on the hardship DOMA inflicts on same-sex couples and their families.
Courage Campaign
"For the first time in history, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to make gays and lesbians whole people,” said Rick Jacobs, the chair and founder of the Courage Campaign, an online, grassroots political organization with more than 750,000 members around the country. "This truly historic vote today should never have been necessary because this absurd law should never have been on the books. Thanks to Sen. Dianne Feinstein, we have a bill that can move to the Senate floor where fair-minded people who believe in a nation united, not divided, can end federal discrimination against gay and lesbian couples legally married in six states and the District of Columbia. Sadly, the Republicans think this is a partisan issue, but then some thought the same about the other great civil rights issues of this nation. Eventually, America is just."

Senate Advances DOMA Repeal

The Senate Judiciary Committee has narrowly voted 10-8 to move the Respect For Marriage Act, which would repeal DOMA, to the full chamber for consideration. Discussion during today's debate revealed that the repeal's sponsors will probably not submit the bill during this or next year as it has little chance of passage on the Senate floor. Aware of that decision, the GOP today declined to bother attempting to attach any amendments. For now, it appears that the campaign to repeal DOMA legislatively has come to a temporary end.

NOTE: We salute our bold Democratic allies in the U.S. Senate for today's impassioned support for the welfare of the LGBT families of America.

Archdiocese Of New York Vows Severe Punishment For Any Gay-Friendly Priests

New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan has issued a special decree vowing severe punishment if any priest or deacon dares to solemnize a gay union or allow any Catholic-owned facility to be used for such an event. The decree also vows retaliation if any lay employee of the Church participates in a gay wedding. In addition to the above edict, Dolan says:
According to Divine Law, the nature of marriage is defined as a covenant between one man and one woman by which they establish a partnership of the whole life, which is ordered to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children. Jesus Christ affirmed the privileged place of marriage in human and Christian society by raising this union to the dignity of a Sacrament when entered into by two baptized persons. Consequently, the Church has the authority and the serious obligation to affirm the authentic teaching on marriage, and to preserve and foster the supremely sacred value of the married state.
Commenters on the above-linked press release are demanding that Dolan immediately excommunicate all gay-friendly Catholic officials.

Judge Slams NOM's Oppression Meme

The judge who last month ruled that NOM must comply with California's financial disclosure laws has filed his opinion. A delicious excerpt:
Plaintiffs do not, indeed cannot, allege that the movement to recognize marriage in California as existing only between a man and a woman is vulnerable to the same threats as were socialist and communist groups, or, for that matter, the NAACP. Proposition 8 supporters promoted a concept entirely devoid of governmental hostility. Plaintiffs’ belief in the traditional concept of marriage, to disagreement, have not historically invited animosity. The Court is at a loss to find any principled analogy between two such greatly diverging sets of circumstances. Finally, Plaintiffs’ exemption argument appears to be premised, in large part, on the concept that individuals should be free from even legal consequences of their speech. That is simply not the nature of their right. Just as contributors to Proposition 8 are free to speak in favor of the initiative, so are opponents free to express their disagreement through proper legal means.

DOMA Senate Vote Today

The Courage Campaign's Adam Bink says that just because any repeal would be doomed in the House, today's action is not a waste of time.
We may not get to the finish line on repealing DOMA before this Congress adjourns. But if you're working to repeal DOMA with us, don't let anyone tell you that your work is a waste of time. If we wake up within shouting distance of having enough votes come January 2013, then we need to be in a position to deliver the final blow, otherwise we may miss our chance. We repealed "don't ask, don't tell" — at the eleventh hour, at the very end of the last Congress, and with some last-minute legislative maneuvering at that. Couples suffering from DOMA deserve a quicker resolution. That means we need to start changing senators' minds now. Success is not measured by what we can do now, but by progress we’ve made to achieve a goal.

"For years, the FCC has granted churches and small faith-based organizations an exemption from closed captioning requirements, because the additional financial burden would cripple their ability to produce these programs. Now the FCC is rescinding all exemptions and allowing only 90 days for programmers to meet these costly requirements. [snip] The FCC’s iron fist suggests a darker motive. Why such animosity towards religious groups? The erratic implementation of these high hurdles creates an undue hardship for these small Christian broadcasters that will be very hard to overcome. Clearly, the cure is worse than the disease in this case. I hope the FCC reconsiders this unnecessary move and allows religious broadcasters to continue doing their marvelous work, which contributes much needed aid to our moral and cultural decay." - Penny Nance, head shrew for Concerned Women.

Email Of The Day - Eugene Delgaudio

"Dear Joe, The radical Homosexual Lobby is finally ready to destroy the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) once and for all. You see, their supporters in the Senate are trying to sneak a bill through that would repeal DOMA and make homosexual 'marriage' the law of the land -- as soon as Thursday! If the Offense of Marriage Act passes, every state in the Union will be forced to recognize every last homosexual 'marriage' legalized by any other state.

"Not only that, but it will declare with the full support of the Federal government that homosexual 'marriage' is equal to and as moral as real marriage. Overnight, the Federal government will become an engine of radical pollution, pushing the homosexual agenda into every corner of our lives. Churches forced to recognize homosexual 'marriages.' Businesses required by law to give benefits to their employees’ same-sex 'spouses.' Will you stand with the Family today to defend Marriage?" - Eugene Delgaudio, who was reelected yesterday as Supervisor for Loudoun County, Virginia.NOTE: A repeal of DOMA by this Congress will never ever happen and Eugene knows this perfectly well. But still, won't you send him $100 today to help stop this horrible thing which cannot possibly take place?
