Quote Of The Day - Keith Ablow

"I want to be coldly analytical, not moralize, here. I want to tell you what Mr. Gingrich’s behavior could mean for the country, not for the future of his current marriage. So, here’s what one interested in making America stronger can reasonably conclude, psychologically, from Mr. Gingrich’s behavior during his three marriages: 1) Three women have met Mr. Gingrich and been so moved by his emotional energy and intellect that they decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with him. 2) Two of these women felt this way even though Mr. Gingrich was already married. 3 ) One of them felt this way even though Mr. Gingrich was already married for the second time, was not exactly her equal in the looks department and had a wife (Marianne) who wanted to make his life without her as painful as possible. Conclusion: When three women want to sign on for life with a man who is now running for president, I worry more about whether we’ll be clamoring for a third Gingrich term, not whether we’ll want to let him go after one." - Fox News commentator Dr. Keith Ablow, previously known here for his vicious attacks on Chaz Bono.

UDDATE: JMG reader Duncan notes that Ablow was singing a different tune just a few months ago.
There is absolutely no data, I`m telling you, I don`t believe that the particulars of how you behave in your marriage as to your fidelity predict your ability to lead, predict your loyalty to the country or predict anything else upon which Americans would want to vote. So, they may have opinions about it and feelings about it but it`s just that. It`s just that they`re mad at him. It has nothing to do with whether the person would make a good President. Being a hypocrite is a problem.

Protesters Glitter-Bomb Santorum Rally

About twenty protesters glitter-bombed a Rick Santorum rally in South Carolina yesterday. Santorum was onstage with Family Research Council head Tony Perkins at the time.
The former Pennsylvania senator was making a clear appeal to conservative values voters, talking about "striking a blow for family and freedom" and upholding nuclear families as "the pillars of society." At an unseen cue, the protesters, who had stayed quiet until then, tossed glitter skyward and began shouting indiscernible slogans toward the podium. As police officers escorted them to a spot roughly 100 yards away, they took up a refrain of "Put the queers in the back!"
The below clip was made after the protest began. It's unclear if Santorum or Perkins were aware of their presence.

SAN DIEGO: Openly Gay Mayoral Candidate Backed By Major Prop 8 Supporter

In the above tweet openly gay San Diego mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio thanks local business mogul Terry Castor for his support. Which may seem quite strange to you, since Castor and his family collectively donated almost $700,000 to Proposition 8, more than any other group in the city. San Diego City Beat observes:
According to a March 2008 story from the U-T San Diego, Terry Caster said he supported Prop. 8 because, “Without solid marriage, you are going to have a sick society.” The Casters have some other odd ideas on what constitutes a "solid" marriage. So, it was surprising to see this tweet from mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio earlier today. DeMaio is gay and in a committed relationship with the publisher of the online San Diego Gay and Lesbian News. When DeMaio first ran for City Council, in 2008, he declined to take a position on Prop. 8, but has since become more active in the gay community. But though his mayoral campaign's "coalitions" include an LGBT group, DeMaio's made it clear that gay-rights issues won't be part of the campaign.
So we have an openly gay candidate who isn't interested in gay rights and who is being backed by a local corporate giant that's still being boycotted over Prop 8. How very odd...oh WAIT. He's a teabagging homocon. Mystery solved.

RELATED: San Diego's current Mayor Jerry Sanders can be seen in the clip below this post. You may recall that Sanders gained worldwide attention for his tearful on-camera change of heart on same-sex marriage. Sanders will be term-limited out of office in November.

UNRELATED: DeMaio's office staff was busted for writing and making edits on his Wikipedia page.

Cindy Jacobs: Pray For SC To Choose A Christian Who Will Impose Biblical Law

"We Declare and Decree that: South Carolina will be guided by Holy Spirit. South Carolina will hear the voice of the Lord as to the one He has chosen and vote with courage and wisdom. South Carolina will point the Nation toward the rising up of the Lord’s anointed for the Office of President. South Carolina will lift up the one who will make all choices based on God’s Word as revealed in Holy Scripture. South Carolina will be the state which releases a new 'David Anointing' on the one chosen to seek after God’s heart and kill the goliaths in SC and America. No more compromise of your revealed values and standards in your Word. South Carolina will chose one who will support and defend Israel." - Wackadoodle "healer" Cindy Jacobs.

RELATED: Jacobs also has a special prayer for South Carolina's polling places, which are apparently where Satan reigns.

Oh Lord Jesus, we pray and put your precious blood over this property, building and people. We seal it with your powerful, cleansing, redeeming blood. We put a waterfall of your blood flowing down over every door, window or spiritual entryway. We bath and cleans each person who enters with your precious blood. In Jesus Name we claim and cleans this property for the Lord’s Holy purpose. In Jesus Name, we take authority over all demonic forces of Satan and bind them into silence and inactivity. In Jesus Name, we refuse any communication between spirits unless directed by the Holy Spirit.

Immigration Crackdown Hurts Farmers

Garsh, who could have predicted this?
It’s unclear whether farmers in Georgia and Alabama will face a shortage of workers due to tough new laws targeting illegal immigration, but some producers said they have begun changing their plans for planting and harvesting this year’s crops. Some farmers said they might reduce the number of acres they plant or shift to less labor-intensive crops, while others are bracing for higher labor prices and have turned to new recruiting tools to attract workers. “We’re expecting some shifts, but it’s a bit too early to tell,” said Charles Hall, executive director of the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. Georgia and Alabama have approved laws that have tough enforcement provisions that farmers say are scaring migrant workers away from the states.

Marriage Sanctity Defender Jim Garlow Says God Has Forgiven Slimy Swingrich

Pastor Jim "Bad Weave" Garlow says that Satan is behind gay marriage. He also says that God passed Prop 8 because he personally fasted during the election and that Americans should pick up a gun and "rise up" against homosexuals. Brian Brownshirt Is Ever So Pissed

"I have to be candid with you: We are facing a series of very tough fights, not only in New Jersey but throughout the country, as gay-marriage advocates push to replicate what happened in New York, and hope to persuade the Supreme Court to impose gay marriage on all 50 states. In Washington, they claim to be just a few votes short of passing a gay marriage bill through the state senate, without a vote of the people. In both Washington and New Jersey the Democrats have decided, in the middle of an economic collapse causing budget crises, to make pushing a gay marriage bill their number one priority.

"It was announced this week that the vote to repeal gay marriage in New Hampshire takes place on Feb. 1. And we will find out shortly whether gay-marriage advocates will try to reverse their loss in Maine this November.Impossible victories have happened again and again during NOM's tenure. I can't promise you what will happen in all these close fights, but I can promise you this: Thanks to you, NOM will be in this fight. I will never give up, as long as I have the comradeship and support and prayers of good people like you. We cannot cravenly surrender the truth about marriage, or justice for children." - Emperor of Hypocrisy Brian Brownshirt, who is currently pursuing anti-gay marriage amendments during a budget crisis.

Etta James Dies At 73

Such a tough and terrible ending, but what a legacy.
The powerhouse singer, known as "Miss Peaches," lived an eventful life. She first hit the charts as a teenager, taking "The Wallflower (Roll With Me, Henry)" -- an "answer record" to Hank Ballard's "Work With Me, Annie" -- to No. 1 on the R&B charts in 1955. She joined Chess Records in 1960 and had a string of R&B and pop hits, many with lush string arrangements. After a mid-decade fade, she re-emerged in 1967 with a more hard-edged, soulful sound. Throughout her career, James overcame a heroin addiction, opened for the Rolling Stones, won six Grammys and was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite her ups and downs -- including a number of health problems -- she maintained an optimistic attitude. "Most of the songs I sing, they have that blue feeling to it. They have that sorry feeling. And I don't know what I'm sorry about," she told CNN's Denise Quan in 2002. "I don't!"

BRITAIN: Guilty Verdicts For Three Men Charged With Stirring Anti-Gay Hatred

After distributing leaflets calling for the execution of homosexuals, three Muslim men have just been found guilty in the first-ever trial under Britain's revised Public Order Act, which now outlaws inciting anti-gay hatred and violence.
Ihjaz Ali, Kabir Ahmed and Razwan Javed handed out the pamphlet, called The Death Penalty?, which showed an image of a mannequin hanging from a noose and quoted Islamic texts that said capital punishment was the only way to rid society of homosexuality. They were convicted at Derby Crown Court of distributing threatening written material intending to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation. It is the first prosecution of its kind since legislation came into force in March 2010. Mehboob Hussain and Umar Javed, who were also charged with the same offence, were found not guilty by the jury. The leaflets were given to people outside a mosque and posted through letterboxes in the Normanton area of the city. The men admitted distributing the flyers but claimed they weren't "threatening" and denied they were designed to cause trouble for homosexuals.
One of the men charged told the court that is was his "duty as a Muslim to spread what God says about homosexuality. The references on the leaflets are historical facts and quote from the Koran." Those convicted face a sentence of up to seven years in prison and an "unlimited fine."

MILESTONE: Every Company On Fortune's Best 100 List Protects Gay Employees

Google is the nation's best company to work for according to the 2012 edition of Fortune Magazine's annual rankings. And for the first time, every company in the list's top 100 offers sexual orientation non-discrimination protections.
"It's been gathering strength over the 15 years that we've done the survey," said Milton Moskowitz, a co-author of the list. Similar progress has been made in benefits for same-sex domestic partners, which are now offered by 89 of the 100 companies listed, up from 70 five years ago. "It's not surprising to me that the places that are ranked the best to work are also the ones that are going to respect and value their employees," said Michael Cole-Schwartz, communications manager at the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that advocates on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
RELATED: About 60% of Fortune 500 companies currently offer domestic partner benefits. That's almost double the number from ten years ago.

Equality Plate For South Carolina

It's not overtly gay and it doesn't have a rainbow thingy like the one in Indiana, but we'll take it.
We are delighted to announce the SC Equality license plate! The plate will be available on Jan. 30, and is a wonderful way to show support for the LGBTQ community in South Carolina. This plate is not just for the LGBTQ community, but for family members, allies and the community at large! This week, South Carolina joins Indiana as one of three states to claim pro-equality license plates, Maryland being the first in 2008. The license plate was created as a way of allowing residents of South Carolina to publicly display their support of community, culture and policy that encourages and advocates for equal treatment for all South Carolinians, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Grindr Hacked In Australia

The Sydney Morning Herald reports:
A popular "meat-market" smartphone app that spawned a sexual revolution in Australia's gay community has been compromised by a Sydney hacker, potentially exposing intimate personal chats, explicit photos and private information of users. The location-aware Grindr app enables gay men to meet other gay men who may be just metres away, making use of their smartphone's Global Positioning System (GPS). It had about 100,000 Australian users as of August last year and more than one million users worldwide. Now a hacker has pushed the app developer into a security crisis that has left its users seriously vulnerable considering the vast amounts of private information traded through the app - in many cases naked photos. The hacker discovered a way to log in as another user, impersonate that user, chat and send photos on their behalf.
Grindr has acknowledged the problem and says they "have a team in place" working on it.

Mormons Plot To Overthrow America

"The political machinery of the priesthood of the Mormon Church is named the Kingdom of God and/or the Government of God, and the goal of the Mormon Church, through the Mormon Kingdom of God, is to bring the United States government, this is true, under the rule of the priesthood, the Mormon priesthood. Mormons believe that they are the only true church, all other religions are false, and their main objective is to be ready when the time comes for the millennial reign by having their leaders ready to rule or already in key places of authority and power. Their ultimate goal is better serve their agenda by being able to rule and govern before the millennium actually takes place and the Mormon Church and its corporate empire, assets and resources will be the chief element in the millennial overthrow of the United States government." - Author Tricia Erickson, speaking on the Voice Of Christian America radio show.

Editorial Of The Day

From the New York Times:
For too many Republicans, it’s not enough that Americans are free to pray in the house of worship of their choice; they want all children to be required to pray in school. They want to impose their own ideas about sexuality and abortion on everyone. And they love to accuse Democrats of being insufficiently pious. (Rick Perry’s exit from the race on Thursday may mean no more ads accusing President Obama of a “war on religion” and liberals of believing faith is a sign of weakness. Or, it may not, depending on how desperate the other candidates get.) When Republican officials then get caught violating one of the Ten Commandments, they make an enormous show of contrition and repentance and ask for the public’s forgiveness. But as the hypocrisy level continues to rise, that forgiveness may become much harder to provide.

Lord, you made marriage the cornerstone of civilization, the foundation of society. Intervene to protect the institution you ordained. Help the pastors, churches and people in each of these states to rise to the occasion to prevent laws fostering homosexual "marriage" and to uphold laws that protect Natural Marriage. Grant us mercy and grace, too, in all the lawsuits making their way to the Supreme Court and every ruling and vote having to do with marriage policy (Gen 1:1, 26-28; Dt 11:18-21; Mt 19:4-6; Is 1:4-20; Eph 3:14-15; 5:22-6:4; Jude 1:6-8).

Kate Kendell Writes To Mrs. Frothy

"Karen, we need to talk. And by that, I mean that I need to talk and you need to listen. You love your husband — I get that. You love your faith — fine by me. But when you pretend that hate is love, that lies are truth, and that victims are oppressors, you have become insane. Your husband believes that LGBT people cannot be trusted to serve in the military, raise children, form stable relationships or be fully respected under the law. According to you, Rick may love us, but honey, his love is killing us, and we want nothing to do with this abusive relationship.

"Our community has endured expulsion from family, mass firings, daily epithets, assaults, harassment, humiliation, death, and suicides. We know that if your husband becomes president of our country our long suffering will only deepen and magnify. [snip] You and Rick are the haters. My community is the victim, and anyone paying attention knows the truth." - Kate Kendell, head of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, in an op-ed published by the Advocate.

Christie-Proof Majority In New Jersey?

Here's some head-counting:
New Jersey Democrats believe they are within spitting distance of securing enough support to override a veto of same-sex marriage legislation if Gov. Chris Christie chooses not support it. State Sen. Raymond Lesniak, one of the bill’s sponsors, estimated the chamber had between 24 and 27 supporters for legislation to allow for same-sex marriage in New Jersey. It takes 27 votes in the 40-member state senate to override a governor’s veto. “I’m wishing and hoping,” said Lesniak, who also acknowledged that some potential supporters still needed “shoring up.”

Lesniak, a Democrat representing Union County, counted up to 23 Democrats and four Republicans as supporting a gay marriage, but wouldn’t disclose specific names of those he believes would vote to override a veto. Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver, a Democrat, has said that she has majority support for same-sex marriage legislation, and that she would work to garner the 54 votes necessary for a veto override in the 80-member Assembly.
A poll released yesterday shows a first-ever majority of 52% now supports marriage equality in New Jersey.

WASHINGTON: Major Firms Including Microsoft Endorse Same-Sex Marriage

Six major Washington state corporations including Microsoft have issued a joint letter endorsing the marriage equality bill proposed by Gov. Christine Gregoire. The Seattle Times reports:
As letters of support go, it's very short: "We write you today to show the support of our respective companies for SB 6239 and HB 2516 recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples." In addition to Microsoft, the letter was signed by officials from Vulcan, NIKE, RealNetworks, Group Health Cooperative, and Concur. Microsoft created a flap in 2005 when said it was neutral on the initial gay-rights legislation. It failed in the Senate by one vote that year. After heavy criticism, the company later changed its position and endorsed the legislation, as well as subsequent bills, including domestic partnerships for same-sex couples. The company last week said it was reviewing the legislation and had not decided whether to take a position.
Advocates hope this move will sway the state senators needed to guarantee the bill's passage. At last count, the bill was two votes short with about nine senators listed as "undecided." (Tipped by JMG reader Ryan)

Funk/Disco Legend Jimmy Castor Dies

Funk and disco legend Jimmy Castor has died of heart disease at the age of 71. Castor scored half a dozen pop and disco chart smashes, including his 1972 classic Troglodyte, the first five seconds of which is arguably the most-sampled line in the history of rap and house music. Troglodyte also introduced the recurring character of Bertha Butt, the "enormous cavewoman" who titled her own 1975 Top 20 hit, Bertha Butt Boogie. That single contains one of my favorite stanzas in all of pop music: When Bertha got movin', her hips were hummin' in the wind, the ground started shakin', no grass grew where SHE'D been!

Shamefully missing from YouTube is my favorite Jimmy Castor Bunch record, Supersound, which is probably responsible for blowing out the speakers on my dad's '74 T-Bird. (I blamed my sister's Frampton Comes Alive.) The tom-tom breakdown in Supersound is possibly only second to the epic cowbell/tom-tom breakdown in the Bar-Kay's Holy Ghost. The album containing Supersound also gave us the monkey-grunt novelty single, King Kong, which Castor performed on Soul Train as a man in a gorilla suit danced in the audience. The seventies, folks. That sound you hear is my hips hummin' in the wind.

UPDATE: The Village Voice has just published an epic zillion-word biography of Jimmy Castor. I'm just digging in....

NEBRASKA: State GOP Rep Introduces Bill To Repeal LGBT Rights Statewide

Nebraska GOP Rep. Beau McCoy has introduced a bill that would overturn the very few local LGBT rights laws across the state. McCoy's bill stipulates that only the state has the right to create protected classes of citizens.
McCoy's proposed bill would amend state law to prohibit local governments from creating new classes of residents protected from discrimination. "It just merely says that if we're going to change the protected classes ... we need to come to the Capitol to do it so that it's consistent across the state," McCoy said. "If it's the right thing to do, it ought to be the right thing to do border-to-border, not just in one city or municipality." McCoy refused to say whether he'd support a "uniform" statewide proposal to include gay people as a protected class.

American Family Association: The False Faith Of Mormons Threatens America

"[Mormonism] is not a Christian faith. It is, as Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church in Dallas says, a false religion. So it's kind of a striking things and I know it concerns a number of spiritual leaders, and I count myself among them, is what this would mean for the spiritual health of the United States of America is a worshiper of a false god occupied the White House. You know, what that would mean for the spiritual future of America and what it might reveal about the spiritual weakness of America if the American people, particularly the so-called conservatives, the people of faith in America, would promote someone to the highest office in the land who is a follower of a counterfeit faith, a false religion." - American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer, who will be eating his words before too long.

BALTIMORE: "Ex-Gay" Group Demands Discrimination Protection

As I reported last week, Baltimore County is considering adding sexual orientation and gender identity to its non-discrimination policies. The "ex-gay" group PFOX is now demanding that they too be protected from discrimination. Because whatever "ex-gays" are, it isn't a sexual orientation?
"Councilmember Quark's legislation must specifically include former homosexuals to ensure non-discrimination against unpopular minority groups like the ex-gay community," said Grace Harley. "No councilmember should vote for this bill if it excludes former homosexuals. Ex-gays like me deserve the same equal rights that gays enjoy. We urge Quark to include all minorities in his bill, and not just favored groups."

Bankruptcy For Kodak

I was crying so hard I couldn't work my Instamatic. Kodak filed for bankruptcy today.
Kodak has filed for bankruptcy in a bid to survive a liquidity crisis after years of falling sales related to the decline of its namesake film business as digital cameras have taken over the market. Eastman Kodak Co, the photographic film pioneer, which had tried to restructure to become a seller of consumer products like cameras, said it had also obtained a $950m, 18-month credit facility from Citigroup to keep it going.
The filing in Manhattan does not affect the company's overseas subsidiaries, which may survive in some form if the parent company does not.

UNRELATED: Looking at this photo, I'm reminded that the Pocket Instamatic came with a small sheet of stickers for personalizing your camera. Among the choices were an America flag, such as above, a race car, an Apollo rocket, etc. I chose the daisy, which displeased my father greatly. A 1972 sign of things to come, truly.

Fox News is so pissed about Newsweek's "Why Are Obama's Critics So Dumb?" cover, they blurred out Andrew Sullivan's name under the title. Sully had nothing to do with the title and in fact never makes a "dumb" claim in his article. But Tina Brown's gotta sell magazines.

70 Big-City Mayors Join Together To Advocate For Same-Sex Marriage

The Wall Street Journal reports:
The mayors of several big cities, including Chicago, New York, Boston and Los Angeles, are joining together to support same-sex marriage rights, a move that could put additional pressure on President Barack Obama to do the same. The effort is being organized by Freedom to Marry, an advocacy group that plans a news conference Friday in Washington, D.C.,, featuring mostly Democratic mayors and one Republican, Jerry Sanders of San Diego. Like others, Mr. Sanders has stated his views before, but organizers hope that their effort to join some 70 mayors together will give the issue a political boost.

“By joining the group, mayors hope to expand public and political support for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage,” the mayors’ group said in a statement. The mayors planning to attend Friday’s news conference include Annise Parker of Houston, Thomas Menino of Boston, Antonio R. Villaraigosa of Los Angeles and Marilyn Strickland of Tacoma, Wash. Michael Bloomberg of New York and Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, Mr. Obama’s first White House chief of staff, have also joined the effort.
Rahm Emanuel. Interesting.

Press Release Of The Day

From Freedom To Marry.
“The so-called National Organization for Marriage is all bark and no bite when it comes to threats against the freedom to marry in Washington state. Any Republican lawmaker in Washington who stands up for loving and committed same-sex couples will be treated as a hero, just as bipartisan support has been applauded in New York and elsewhere in America by gay and non-gay communities alike. Those of us who support marriage have demonstrated time and again that we’ll be loyal to elected officials who make the politically smart and morally correct choice in extending the freedom to marry to gay couples. As NOM travels the country making empty threats, their presence continues to be unwanted by citizens and irrelevant to politicians.”
NOM has pledged $250K to fight gay marriage in Washington state and vows to launch a ballot repeal campaign should it pass. Hmm, only $250K? Considering what they've pledged elsewhere, it sounds like NOM doesn't want to piss away a lot of money on a lost cause.

New Hampshire Hate Group Claims Gay Marriage Hurts The Economy

Scott Moody of Cornerstone Research Policy sat down with the editorial board of a New Hampshire newspaper to tell them that same-sex marriage "undermines the state's fiscal stability." Therefore, gay marriage must be repealed.
With fewer traditional marriages, the number of children born declines as a result, Moody claims. According to statistics from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Census Bureau, provided by Moody, the number of births in New Hampshire declined by around 4,000 between the years 1991 and July 1, 2011. He asserts same-sex couples are physically unable to produce children and must therefore adopt. According to Moody, every same-sex marriage has a net child capacity of zero, meaning each same-sex married couple does not contribute to their community's population as would a heterosexual couple. They may adopt, but this does not equate to producing their own children, according to Moody. This documented decline in births, according to Moody, will have a large impact on the state's economy.
RELATED: You may recall that it was at a Cornerstone event where Rick Perry made his now-legendary totally not drunk off his ass speech.

UNRELATED: In 2010 Cornerstone lobbied to make adultery a criminal offense. Sharia Law, ya'll.

About.com Opens Nominations

About.com has opened nominations for their Gay Life Readers' Choice Awards. I'll confess that I don't read About.com, but their request for a little publicity was nicer than most of those things that I get. Plus I'm kinda curious about the "Best Gay App" category. At the moment all I can think of is Grindr. What am I missing? And here's my pick for "Best Gay YouTube Sensation," since you didn't ask. YES, Gawd!

Matt Baume: Marriage News Watch

This week: "Washington, Colorado, New Jersey -- state legislatures are moving even faster than we thought on marriage equality. But it's not all good news. Meanwhile, Canadian turmoil calls thousands of marriages into question, and preparations continue for the impending decision in the Prop 8 case."

Has Newt's Ex Dropped A Bombshell?

No details yet, but there's this:
Drudge siren is ablaze with the report that Newt Gingrich’s ex-wife Marianne, who famously claimed she could end her [former] husband's career in one interview, has apparently given that interview to ABC News. The network is currently debating the “ethics” of airing the interview before the South Carolina Primary.
Rubs hands and chortles in sinister fashion....Looks like the interview may air tomorrow.

NEW YORK CITY: Christine Quinn Sitting On Huge Cash Advantage On Mayoral Race

The 2013 mayoral election is a long time from now, but NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the presumptive favorite, has already raised far more money than those expected to challenge her. In second place is Manhattan's popular borough president, Scott Stringer. (I think David Dinkins was the last borough president to become mayor. Damn you, dark Wikipedia.) If Quinn wins, she'll become the first female (and lesbian) mayor of NYC, a post that arguably holds more political power than half of the nation's governorships.
