NYC Subway Pusher Caught, Tells Cops:
I Want To Kill Muslims And Hindus

New York City police today apprehended the woman who pushed an Indian immigrant to his death under the 7 train in Queens on Thursday. Reportedly, the victim was chosen because his killer believed him to be Muslim.
In a statement released by the district attorney’s office, Mr. Brown quoted Ms. Menendez, “in sum and substance,” as having told the police: “I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I’ve been beating them up.” Ms. Menendez conflated the Muslim and Hindu faiths in her comments to the police and in her target for attack, officials said. The victim, Sunando Sen, was born in India and, according to a roommate, was raised Hindu.  Mr. Sen “was allegedly shoved from behind and had no chance to defend himself,” Mr. Brown said. “Beyond that, the hateful remarks allegedly made by the defendant and which precipitated the defendant’s actions should never be tolerated by a civilized society.” Mr. Brown said he had no information on the defendant’s criminal or mental history. “It will be up to the court to determine if she is fit to stand trial,” he said.
Menendez will likely be charged with murder as a hate crime.

RELATED: After two such pushing deaths in the space of several weeks, the MTA says they are reconsidering a plan to install sliding barricades on some subway platforms.  Such barriers are in place on major subway systems around the world.  The MTA had previously estimated that it would cost at least a billion dollars to retrofit most of its 468 stations. About one person per week has died on the subway tracks this year due to suicide, falls, and more recently, murder.

UPDATE: The New York Post reports that a relative claims that the killer has a history of mental problems.
Menendez could have a criminal background -- and possibly a history of mental health issues, the sources said. She has recently been living in homeless shelters. The suspect was taken to the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills. "All I know is that she's bipolar and as far as seeing the footage, I'm pretty sure it was her," said a cousin of the suspect who declined to give his name. "I don't know much about her whereabouts or what she's been up to these past few months."
UPDATE II: Pam Geller says she has no responsibility in the murder because her latest round of anti-Islam subway ads have not yet been posted.
First off, my ads are not up yet in the subways. They are not scheduled to go up until January 7, 2013. And even if they were, how does that make me responsible? This murderess states most emphatically what her motive was: September 11. Why aren't the Islamic supremacists blaming jihad? Al Qaeda? Because they share AQ's ideology and goals and they are going to try to use this senseless murder to silence critics of genocide, ethnic cleansing and anti-humanism. Jihadists can kill thousands in the cause of Islam and the media, the left and political elites are OK with that, but some nut does something nuts and I am responsible? That's the war that we are in.
Below is Geller's subway ad which ran earlier this year.

Obama Backs Illinois Marriage

Through his spokesman, President Obama has issued a statement in support of same-sex marriage in his home state of Illinois.
"While the president does not weigh in on every measure being considered by state legislatures, he believes in treating everyone fairly and equally, with dignity and respect," White House spokesman Shin Inouye told the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday.

"As he has said, his personal view is that it's wrong to prevent couples who are in loving, committed relationships, and want to marry, from doing so. Were the President still in the Illinois State Legislature, he would support this measure that would treat all Illinois couples equally," Inouye said.

The lead sponsors of the "Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act," state Sen. Heather Steans (D-Chicago) and state Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago), intend to put the measure up for a vote during the upcoming January lame-duck session. The toughest challenge for gay marriage backers will be winning passage in the Illinois House. Prospects for approval in the Illinois Senate--where Obama once served--are brighter.
As noted above, the current bill will be presented during the lame duck session which ends in just a few weeks.  When the new legislature is seated, Democrats will hold a super-majority in both chambers.

YouTube Strips Billions Of Fake Views From Music Industry Channels

YouTube has stripped billions of fake views from the channels of several of the world's largest music industry companies.  The views were reportedly purchased from companies that use automated programs to artificially inflate the counts.
Google slashed the cumulative view counts on YouTube channels belonging to Universal Music Group, Sony/BMG, and RCA Records by more than 2 billion views Tuesday, a drastic winter cleanup that may be aimed at shutting down black hat view count-building techniques employed by a community of rogue view count manipulators on the video-sharing site.  Universal's channel is the one that took the biggest hit. According to figures compiled by the YouTube statistics analysts at SocialBlade, the record company's YouTube channel lost more than 1 billion views from its preexisting tally of 7 billion views Tuesday. Sony/BMG was the second largest sufferer, dropping more than 850 million views in one day, bringing its total number of views to a mere 2.3 million. RCA, which got off scot free by comparison, dipped 159 million views. Its tally now sits more modestly at 120 million views.
RELATED: Last week the video for Gangnam Style broke YouTube's all-time record with over one billion views.  The view count for that clip does not appear to have been affected by YouTube's action.

Maine Marriages Begin

The Portland Press Herald reports:
Michael Snell and Steven Bridges emerged from City Hall early Saturday morning to ecstatic cheers from close to 300 people who gathered to celebrate Maine’s first same-sex weddings. With 15 couples waiting for marriage licenses, Snell and Bridges became the first to exchange vows in the city clerk's office, shortly after midnight. When asked right after the ceremony whether they felt more married, Snell, who has been with Bridges for nine years, responded, “No, it’s just official.”
Listen to the crowd roar when Michael and Steven come outside! Lots more photos are at the link.

New Log Cabin Head Gregory Angelo Backed Newt Gingrich For President

Today the Log Cabin Republicans announced that executive director R. Clarke Cooper will be stepping down next week, apparently as planned. Taking Cooper's place as interim head will be Gregory T. Angelo, who announced his support for Newt Gingrich's presidential bid just weeks after Gingrich signed NOM's hate pledge to destroy LGBT rights on the federal level.

From the LCR's press release:
"I am both humbled and thrilled to have the support of the Log Cabin Republicans National Board of Directors and to follow in the footsteps of the inimitable Clarke Cooper," Mr. Angelo stated. "There has never been a more exciting and historic time to be a gay Republican-with the wind at our backs following four referendum victories for the freedom to marry last November and the United States Supreme Court soon to rule on marriage equality, 2013 could mark a turning point in the fight for equal rights for all. It has never been more critical to advocate for equality to Republicans, as Republicans. As the Interim Executive Director of this esteemed organization, I will do everything I can to work for Republican victories that return the party to its roots of freedom, fairness, and liberty for all." Mr. Angelo is the current Chairman of Log Cabin Republicans of New York State, a position he has held since 2009. As New York State Chairman, Mr. Angelo led Log Cabin Republicans as part of New Yorkers United for Marriage, a coalition that collaborated to make marriage equality legal through legislative vote for the first time in a Republican-controlled legislature.
Judging by this 2011 interview, Angelo appears to be the typical homocon who proclaims his Christianity and denounces gay pride parades.  Because, you know, he's butch. Or something.
Most of the other gay Republicans Greg knows, he says, are not fans of the pride parade. They’re not wearing their sexuality on their sleeve, he says. Many are partnered. A lot are business owners. “The bottom line is many just want to live their lives in quiet dignity. Their rights are important to them and achieving equal rights is important to them but the way to do it isn’t really to go out and bang a drum and make a lot of noise. It’s more so to make a difference within the party and to sit down with fellow Republicans and sit down with their partners, sit down with the foster children they’re taking care of, sit down and explain that they’re a business owner who is also not happy with the MTA payroll tax in New York and make the case that we are normal,” he says. Greg has met with people who think all gay men are hairdressers or fashion designers.

Email Of The Day - Eugene Delgaudio

"Dear Joe, Deviant homosexual operatives are about to know exactly how much I raised this year, and how much cash I have on hand to oppose their radical agenda. The Homosexual Lobby utterly despises Public Advocate and ridicules all the work you and I do to defend morality in America. The Human Rights Campaign, The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Gay Task Force, GLAAD, The North American Man/Boy Love Association, and every other radical homosexual organization will be scouring our finance report to exploit every chink in my armor.

"The consequences could prove dire for the American family. Right now homosexual activists are plotting to tempt Republicans into passing their perverse agenda. They will tell them passing the Gay Bill of Special Rights will 'expand the tent' and 'keep you in the majority' -- that the pro-family movement is too weak. And I have almost nothing left financially. I have the troops and volunteers. I have their commitment to fight on. I have the organization to take this battle to the front lines!" - Hate group leader Eugene Delgaudio, who says he desperately needs "$56,197 with all checks postmarked before December 31st" if he is to meet his budget forecast.

Another Subway Pushing Death In NYC

For the second time this month, a New York City subway passenger has died after being pushed onto the tracks. The victim, who was reportedly pushed from behind by a mumbling woman, has not yet been identified because his body was too mangled.  The attacker fled down the stairs of the elevated station in Queens and police are distributing grainy surveillance images captured by street-level cameras.

Maine Marriages Start Tomorrow

Same-sex marriages commence in Maine tomorrow and Portland City Hall is bracing for a rush after midnight tonight.
"We're prepared for pretty much any kind of crowd we could get," said Chris Farwell, a city event coordinator who is responsible for logistics on Saturday. Portland is one of a handful of communities in Maine that plan special office hours Saturday, the first day that same-sex couples can be married under a new state law. Falmouth will also open just after midnight, while communities including Augusta and Brunswick will open their offices at 9 a.m. For groups and families who plan to be at Portland City Hall on Friday night and early Saturday morning, city officials are arranging varying levels of access. Only couples, their immediate families and a limited number of guests will be allowed inside the building, and only the couples themselves will be allowed to wait in line for marriage certificates. Families will be directed to adjacent lobbies and rooms, Farwell said.
One minister will park his RV outside of city hall to accommodate the overflow. Anybody inside city hall by 3AM tonight will be allowed to marry before the building closes.

NOM: Stop Illinois & Minnesota Marriage

In two nearly identical notices, NOM has posted emergency warnings that same-sex marriage is about to be legalized in Illinois and Minnesota.  From the Minnesota post:
In November, Minnesotans voted to maintain the status quo on marriage, as Minnesota statutes already recognize marriage as the union of a husband and wife. Now gay marriage activists are trying to force a whole new battle on the state. But the people of Minnesota know as well as you and I do what negative consequences would follow in the wake of same-sex marriage becoming law. Activists know the American people—even those who support same-sex marriage—don't want to force religious groups to go against their beliefs. And yet everywhere same-sex marriage becomes law, it is people of faith who become the law's first targets.

Across the country, Catholic Charities is being forced to drop their adoption and foster care services wherever same-sex marriage is enacted. Reception halls, inns, and bed and breakfasts are being sued if they decline to host same-sex wedding ceremonies or receptions. And schools across the country are facing increasing pressures to teach elementary students about "Prince & Prince," or "Heather's Two Mommies." Send your lawmakers a message: Don't Mess with Marriage!
Note how NOM characterizes their loss in November. Heh.

Fontella Bass Dies At 72

Motown-era pop star Fontella Bass died of heart disease on Wednesday at the age of 72.
After some early recordings with Little Milton’s Bobbin label in St. Louis, she joined Chess and released her first records on its Checker subsidiary in early 1965. The first two, “Don’t Mess Up a Good Thing” and “You’ll Miss Me (When I’m Gone),” duets with Bobby McClure, had modest success on the rhythm-and-blues charts. But her career was made by “Rescue Me,” released later that year. Driven by a bubbly bass line, it featured Ms. Bass’s high-spirited voice in wholesomely amorous lyrics like “Come on and take my hand/Come on, baby, and be my man,” as well as some call-and-response moans that Ms. Bass later said resulted from a studio accident. “When we were recording that, I forgot some of the words,” she told The New York Times in 1989. “Back then, you didn’t stop while the tape was running, and I remembered from the church what to do if you forget the words. I sang, ‘Ummm, ummm, ummm,’ and it worked out just fine.”
In 1990 Bass successfully sued for publishing royalties after she heard Rescue Me being used in an American Express commercial.

TRIVIA: The background vocals on Rescue Me were sung by Minnie Riperton.

Dutch Catholics "Debaptize" Themselves Over Pope's Anti-Gay Comments

Years ago I posted about the "debaptism" movement in which Catholics request that their names formally be stricken from the memberships rolls of their local diocese. This month that (mostly) symbolic move has gained steam in the Netherlands due to Pope Ratzinger's incessant attacks on same-sex marriage.
Tom Roes, whose website allows people to download the documents needed to leave the church, said traffic on ontdopen.nl – "de-baptise.nl" – had soared from about 10 visits a day to more than 10,000 after Pope Benedict's latest denunciation of gay marriage this month. "Of course it's not possible to be 'de-baptized' because a baptism is an event, but this way people can unsubscribe or de-register themselves as Catholics," Roes told Reuters. He said he did not know how many visitors to the site actually go ahead and leave the church. About 28 percent of the population in the Netherlands is Catholic and 18 percent is Protestant, while a much larger proportion – roughly 44 percent – is not religious, according to official statistics. The country is famous for its liberal attitudes, for example to drugs and prostitution, and in April 2001 it was the first nation in the world to legalize same-sex marriages.
RELATED: Early this year a French man successfully sued to have his name removed from the baptismal records of his diocese. He was the first in his nation to be officially debaptized.  In Germany, about 200,000 Catholics have filed the paperwork declaring that they will no longer pay the religion tax which is allocated to the Catholic Church.

NOTE: The above certificate is from Britain's Secular Society.

Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf Dies At 78

Retired four-star Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf has died at the age of 78.
A U.S. official says retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who commanded the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991, has died. He was 78.  The official tells The Associated Press that Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla. The official wasn't authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. A much-decorated combat soldier in Vietnam, Schwarzkopf was known popularly as “Stormin' Norman” for a notoriously explosive temper.
RELATED: During her 1991 Oscars performance of Sooner Or Later (I Always Get My Man), Madonna name-checked Schwarzkopf, who had just led the international coalition to drive Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.

You Hurt Linda Harvey's Feelings

Hate group leader Linda Harvey is super-upset about the mean things "gay" people are saying about her on "blogs."
If you have come here from a "gay" blog, and you consider yourself a fair person, please take every accusation with a great deal of skepticism. Linda Harvey does not believe that homosexuals "don't exist" or are "not human beings." Sadly, intentional deception and a smear campaign are in play. (Sigh!)....Somewhere along the line, a twisted version of what we really say, that homosexual desires and behavior are not inborn, is being attributed to our ministry. Before you make that vulgar call,or send that vicious email, please do your homework and double check your source. That has never been the plain meaning of anything we've written or said on the radio. And uninformed speculations about Linda Harvey's personal life are uncalled for and frankly, fall into the category of ad hominem attacks born out of desperation. She is doing just fine, thank you very much. But none of us has time to debate with people who just don't care to read first and get the facts. Propaganda is an enemy to us all, and the truly intelligent person will read something other than shallow, vicious "gay" blogs.
As for the first sentence of Miss Linda's complaint, let's just go to the verbatim tape:
"Why should the equal protection argument be made in favor of homosexual behavior, which is changeable? People are not naturally homosexual, so the definition of 'person' in the Fourteenth Amendment is being twisted to make this assumption. 'Person' should be understood based on historic, beneficial, or at least neutral and fact-based traits; it should not be twisted to incorporate behavior that most religions and most cultures have said a firm 'no' to."
Stop being so shallow and vicious, you "gay" "people"!

Ruben Diaz Has 10 Wishes For 2013

Crackpot anti-gay New York Sen. Ruben Diaz has ten wishes for the new year.
1. For Senator John Sampson, to find better and more faithful friends.

2. For reporters Bob Kappstatter, from the Bronx Times and Jim Odato from the Times Union, to learn how to be impartial and objective journalists.

3. For Senator Jeff Klein and his Gang of Four, to find a parachute to allow them to make their landing easy and soft when Senator Dean Skelos and the Republicans - fearing the Conservative Party - reject their support for a progressive agenda, leaving the Gang of Four out in the cold.

4. For Senator Malcolm Smith, to find another minority to join him in order for him not to be the only Uncle Tom in the house.

5. For Assemblyman-Elect Luis Sepulveda, to take it a little bit easier with a little more patience and wait for his time, because it will come.

6. For my three friends, Carl Kruger, Pedro Espada, and Hiram Monserrate, to try to get together in 2013 while they are away [JMG: "away" means "IN PRISON"] and write a book instructing Jeff Klein and the Gang of Four how to deal with Dean Skelos and what to expect from him.

7. To Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, to buy a back-stabbing proof vest.

8. For Senator Adriano Espaillat, to get a big handkerchief to wipe away his saliva because Charlie Rangel will be there for many years more - and aside from that, Adam Clayton Powell is warming up in the bullpen.

9. For Governor Andrew Cuomo, to be honest enough to admit that he has been the creator of the mess in the New York State Senate.

10. As for myself, should these nine other wishes come true, that I will be able to take a break and keep my mouth shut.
Diaz closes, as always, with his preferred official title: "This is Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know."

HAWAII: Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz Tapped To Succeed The Late Sen. Daniel Inouye

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie has named his second-in-command, Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz, to replace Sen. Daniel Inouye, who died last week after almost 50 years in office.
“I asked how best could we ensure that Hawaii remain strong in the long run,” Abercrombie said, adding that rebuilding the state’s seniority in Congress was a priority. “I made this decision with the full confidence that Brian’s appointment is in the best interest of the party, the state of Hawaii and the nation.” For 22 years Hawaii had been represented in the Senate by the same tandem — Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka. Because of his appointment, Schatz will become the state’s new senior senator in January, after Sen.-elect Mazie Hirono succeeds the retiring Akaka.
Schatz is 40 years old.

World's Longest High-Speed Rail Line

Launched in China, of course.
It used to take the best part of 24 hours to travel by train from Beijing to the southern boomtown of Guangzhou. But as of Wednesday, when the world's longest high-speed rail line opened for business, the 1,428-mile journey has been cut to a mere eight hours. The trains travel at an average speed of 186mph, passing through five provinces as they tear through the countryside.
The new train travels the equivalent of New York City to Key West in eight hours.  It took me nine hours to drive from Key West to Orlando earlier this week.

BRITAIN: Marriage Support Surges

Public support for same-sex marriage has surged across Britain in just the last few months. The Guardian reports:
The ICM poll conducted just before Christmas found 62% of voters now support the proposals, with half this number – 31% – opposed. Most previous polls have found opinion leaning the same way, although the two-to-one margin revealed on Wednesday is particularly emphatic. An ICM online survey for the Sunday Telegraph in March asked the identical question – which expressly reminds people that the option of civil partnerships already exists for gay couples – and established a 45%-36% lead for the reformers. That significant hardening of opinion during the year will encourage Cameron, whose embrace of gay marriage has proved controversial, not only with religious leaders but also with the Tory backbench. And the new poll reveals a particularly significant swing towards the reform among the Tory base.

Uruguay Postpones Marriage Vote

Uruguay's Senate was widely expected to pass its marriage equality bill today.  No such luck. Via On Top Magazine:
The “Marriage Equality Law” seeks to modify some 20 articles of the Civil Code, including whose surname goes first when children are named. Opponents asked for the bill's vote to be postponed until the Senate's first meeting in April to allow more time to study the proposal. The request received unanimous approval. The bill has already received an initial nod in the Senate and it cleared the nation's lower house earlier this month. President Jose Mujica has said he'll sign the bill into law. Uruguay currently recognizes gay couples with civil unions. After a couple has lived in a “stable relationship” for 5 years, they may petition the government for the recognition.
Another report notes that senators opposed to the bill claimed that the ruling party was trying to rush the bill through without "the normal procedures."

Mexico Lifts Gay Blood Ban?

Andres Duque has the news at Blabbeando:
A little noticed Mexican health norm first approved in August and then published in the country's regulatory Official Federation Diary on October 26th has gone into effect today essentially doing away with a two-decade ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men. The old norm (NOM 003-SSA2) explicitly banned gay and bisexual men from donating blood based on their "practices" and their "increased probability of acquiring HIV or hepatitis infection". The new norm (NOM 253) eliminates specific bans on gay and bisexual men and instead bans blood donations from people with HIV or hepatitis and their partners and people who engage in "risky sexual practices" regardless of their sexual identity.
Duque concludes: "If this report is correct, Mexico might be the first country in the American continent to lift such a ban." Read more.

HAWAII: Freshman House Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Vies For Inouye's Senate Seat

Just-elected Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), the first Hindu person elected to Congress, has submitted herself to replace venerable Sen. Daniel Inouye, who died last week after almost 50 years in the Senate.
“In the military, I learned that ‘leadership’ means raising your hand and volunteering for the tough, important assignments,” Gabbard said in a statement announcing her application to fill the open seat. “Senator Inouye did that as a young man, and he inspired a generation of young soldiers like me. Now it is our responsibility to step up, for the good of Hawai`i. In that spirit, I place my name into consideration for the seat he filled so ably.” Gabbard adds her name to several other applicants for the seat — Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, Inouye’s choice to replace him in a letter written just before his death, Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz, Rep. Ed Case, State Sen. Donna Mercado Kim, State Sen. Will Espero, and Esther Kiaaina, deputy director at the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.  Three nominees will be selected by the Hawaii Democratic Party and their names sent to Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who will choose Inouye’s replacement.

Quote Of The Day - Bill Keller

"As best I can tell, President Obama’s position on same-sex marriage is that it should not be imposed on unwilling states. He has carefully measured out just enough courage to accept same-sex marriage, and by opposing the monstrous Defense of Marriage Act he has said states that enact marriage equality should be respected under federal law. But our president would still leave the legalization of marriage to the states rather than pursue it as a fundamental right. Eusebius McKaiser is as black as Obama, so I will stand aside and leave the obvious fraught analogy to him: 'What are the chances,' McKaiser wondered, 'of Obama saying, ‘Black people should be allowed to vote, ideally, but I’d let the states decide when they are ready.’' Just let us know, Mississippi and Alabama, when you think the time is right." - Bill Keller, writing for the New York Times.

Jack Klugman Dies At 90

Actor Jack Klugman has died at the age of 90.
The prolific, craggy-faced character actor and regular guy who was loved by millions as the messy one in TV's The Odd Couple and the crime-fighting coroner in Quincy, M.E., died on Christmas Eve, his son said. He was 90. Klugman, who lost his voice to throat cancer in the 1980s and trained himself to speak again, died with his wife at his side. "He had a great life and he enjoyed every moment of it and he would encourage others to do the same," son Adam Klugman said. Jack Klugman apparently died suddenly, and family members were not sure of the exact cause. As word of Klugman's death spread, comedians tweeted their appreciation. "You made my whole family laugh together," wrote Jon Favreau. William Shatner remembered Klugman as "an extraordinary and talented man."

Dance Of The Sugar Plum Lesbians

This story makes its ninth annual appearance on JMG....

Grand Central Terminal functions as the mechanical heart of midtown New York City, pumping out several thousand workers and tourists on one beat, then sucking in several thousand more on the next.

The rhythms of the terminal are fascinating.

Beat. Four thousand, inbound from New Haven.

Beat. Three thousand, outbound to Westchester.

Worlds collide on the main floor.

The tourists gawk up at the gloriously ornate ceiling and uselessly flash their digital cameras at objects hundreds of feet away.

The commuters rush up to the track displays to determine their track number, then dart across the terminal floor, dodging the milling tourists, heads down, like running backs heading for the end zone.

It's mesmerizing. It's majestic.

And sometimes, like tonight, it's magical.

I'm walking through the massive main room just as the holiday laser show begins on the ceiling. To the tune of Take The "A" Train, the laser depicts two trains arriving from different directions. The trains stop opposite each other and a reindeer leaps out of each one and crosses over to the opposite train.

The laser traces the outline of one of the zodiac constellations painted on the ceiling. The Cancer crab leaps to life and becomes the Crab Conductor, waddling down the center aisle of the car, punching the reindeers' ticket stubs with his claws.

I move over to the edge of the room, near the entrance for Track 25, so I can watch the reaction to the show. As usual, I'm more entertained by watching the audience than by watching the actual show.

At the ticket windows, standing in front of signs that say "Harlem Line" or "Hudson Line", commuters tilt their heads painfully back to view the show directly overhead. The tourists cluster in delighted circles, holding each others' elbows for balance as they nearly bend over backwards.

Some people move to the edges of the great hall, as I have, to remove themselves from the traffic flow while they watch. Among those that come to join me on the perimeter of the room is a lesbian couple. They stand quite close to me, the taller woman behind the shorter one, with her arms wrapped around her, supporting her a bit as they both lean back on the marble wall.

The shorter woman is stout with a large firm chest. Her hair is short and brushed back into what might have once been called a ducktail. She has an ornate tattoo on her left forearm and she has a leather wallet protruding from the rear pocket of her jeans, attached to her leather belt by a short silver chain. She has more than a passing resemblance to Tony Danza, her big boobs notwithstanding, so naturally (in my head) I name her Toni.

Toni's girlfriend is blond and her short ponytail dangles just above her collar. She is wearing long Christmas tree earrings which nearly brush her shoulders. Her lanky, sinewy limbs are bound in a tight running outfit, over which she is wearing a school athletic jacket. I imagine that she might be a coach at Yale or Harvard, perhaps a girls lacrosse coach, or maybe track and field.

Coach is squeezing Toni tightly and they bounce together to the music a bit. Coach looks over at me and catches me smiling. She nudges Toni, who looks over at me too, and we all grin goofily at each other for a moment.

Overhead, a new show begins. The familiar opening notes of Tchaikovsky's Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairies ring out as the Empire State and the Chrysler buildings sprout arms, bow to each other, and begin waltzing across the ceiling.

I look around the room and it's as if time was frozen for just a second, every person stopped in mid-stride, eyes cast upward, mouths open in silent joy.

Toni pushes away from Coach, turns around and delivers her a bow as deep and as elegant as the one just depicted overheard.

"Madame, may I please have this dance?" she asks Coach.

Coach looks around a bit awkwardly. "You are TOO much!" And she giggles.

"Madame, I must insist!" says Toni, as she takes Coach's hands into hers.

Coach relents and she and Toni begin a beautiful, slow waltz, moving in half-time to the music. As you might have guessed already, Toni leads.

As they dance, their eyes remain locked on each other. Toni is giving Coach an intense look, her lips tightly curled into a satisfied smile. Coach is grinning from ear to ear and again, she giggles.

All around Coach and Toni, the tourists, the businessmen, the students, the conductors, even the guy with a broom...they're all watching. Some are expressionless, but more are smiling, and some of them...some of them are frantically fussing with their cameras, eager to capture this magical New York Moment.

Serendipity prevails, the tune ends, and Toni dips Coach backwards with a dramatic up-sweep of her free arm as a firestorm of camera flashes erupt around them. Toni pulls Coach up and close to her and they hug. There's another camera flash and the crowd begins to move along.

Then.

"Hey, look!"

The laser show is being concluded with giant sprigs of mistletoe appearing over our heads. This time it's Coach who bends down and plants a long tender kiss on Toni's non-lipsticked mouth. There's another flash of cameras from the delighted audience.

Toni takes Coach's hand and they begin to move off towards the exit.

"Oh, don't stop!" says a disappointed woman, still rummaging for her camera.

Toni looks back over her shoulder and says, "I never will."

Grand Central Terminal, the mechanical heart of New York City, beats again. But this time I hear a different rhythm. This time I hear a double beat.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!

Quote Of The Day - Ron Paul

"Do we really want to live in a world of police checkpoints, surveillance cameras, metal detectors, X-ray scanners, and warrantless physical searches? We see this culture in our airports: witness the shabby spectacle of once proud, happy Americans shuffling through long lines while uniformed TSA agents bark orders. This is the world of government provided 'security,' a world far too many Americans now seem to accept or even endorse. School shootings, no matter how horrific, do not justify creating an Orwellian surveillance state in America." - Ron Paul, responding to NRA head Wayne LaPierre's call for armed guards in every public school. Paul's Tea Party followers will surely not be pleased.
