Maggie On Hitchens

"Faith in God leads to evil and hypocrisy, in his view. It reminds me, in these last few days before Christmas, about how important a witness our married life can be. How can anyone believe we have access to an infinitely loving God if we, as Christians, do not appear any more capable than the rest of our broken society of restraining and uplifting our sexual selves -- of loving our families and keeping them together, until death to us part? Christopher Hitchens, rest in peace." - Maggie Gallagher, writing for U Express.

Loving Christians Flood Twitter With Death Threats After The Demise Of Hitchens

After the death of Christopher Hitchens, God's Gentle People flooded twitter with death threats against people who mourned his passing.
This is not the first time Christians have spammed the internet with death threats aimed at atheists. Earlier this year after American Atheists Communications Director, Blair Scott appeared on Fox News a long list of death threats were posted on Fox News’s facebook page. Last time, the mainstream media did not cover the mass amount of Christian death threats toward Scott and toward atheists in general. This time is no exception. It is however likely that if Muslims or atheists were to have posted death threats toward Christians it would undoubtedly be front page news and in fact has been on occasions.
If this had been a gay site and not Twitter, we'd never hear the end of it. Ever.

Christopher Hitchens Dies At 62

Famed atheist, author, and curmudgeon Christopher Hitchens has died of cancer at the age of 62.
Hitchens was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer in June 2010, when his memoir, "Hitch-22," hit the bestseller lists. He wrote and spoke unflinchingly of his grim prognosis and acknowledged that years of heavy smoking and drinking had placed him at high risk for the aggressive disease. His openness about having cancer elicited thousands of letters and e-mails to Vanity Fair, where he was a longtime contributor. Many of the well-wishers offered prayers for the famously atheistic author, who had made his case against religion in the 2007 book "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything." He maintained that his illness had not changed his mind about religion and, borrowing from Shakespeare, asked believers not to bother "deaf heaven" with their "bootless cries."
If you haven't read God Is Not Great, you should.

Hitchens On Mamet

Christopher Hitchens eviscerates the new book by recently revealed douchebag David Mamet.
This is an extraordinarily irritating book, written by one of those people who smugly believe that, having lost their faith, they must ipso facto have found their reason. In order to be persuaded by it, you would have to be open to propositions like this: “Part of the left’s savage animus against Sarah Palin is attributable to her status not as a woman, neither as a Conservative, but as a Worker.” Or this: “America is a Christian country. Its Constitution is the distillation of the wisdom and experience of Christian men, in a tradition whose codification is the Bible.” [Snip] Propagandistic writing of this kind can be even more boring than it is irritating.

Hitchens On Falwell

Noted atheist and author Christopher Hitchens eviscerated Jerry Falwell's legacy on CNN last night, calling Falwell an "ugly little charlatan" and a "little toad." It's a great clip and Hitchens totally nails my own opinions, but I'm disappointed with Anderson Cooper's rather dismissive comment at the end of the interview.
