Producers Pull Plug On Duck Dynasty Musical Two Weeks Into Its Run

Via the Randy Report: "Duck Commander Musical, based on the popular reality TV show Duck Dynasty, has announced it will close May 17th. The show had it's official opening on April 15th at the Rio’s Crown Theater in Las Vegas. According to reports, calls were made to the crew today informing them the show would close. To be fair, the reviews were not bad. Not GREAT mind you, but not bad. I hate seeing actors out of work, but clearly the brand has lost it's lustre."

TRAILER: Duck Commander, The Musical

The Duck Dynasty musical has opened in Las Vegas and the reviews aren't terrible.
It’s not a spoof, but it might be satire. When Miss Kay (Mimi Bessette) sings to troubled Robertson family patriarch Phil (Tad Wilson) “Hey redneck, my sweet redneck …” it isn’t a “Saturday Night Live” bit. It is even, gasp, a bit touching. “Duck Commander Musical,” the new Broadway-style show at the Rio based on the “Duck Dynasty” family, lives up to its pledge not to make fun of its subjects. But making fun of how and why the Robertsons are famous? Open season. Perhaps the creators from the New York side of this cultural collision want to bring in their friends and point out a deeper layer; that their well-crafted and tuneful froth is also a looping “meta” musical about pop culture spiraling to the point where we have a “Duck Dynasty” musical.
You can listen to songs from the show here. Trailer below.

Phil Robertson Rants About Hippies, STDs, and Jesus Jesus Jesus At CPAC 2015

This afternoon Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson was bestowed with the Andrew Breitbart First Amendment Award at CPAC in recognition of his righteous battle against the HGTV branch of the federal government. Pulling open his bible at the start of his acceptance speech, Robertson proceeded to launch into a strident call for a Christianity-based theocracy, at one point declaring that STDs are "the revenge of the hippies." (This from a guy who looks like he lives in a '66 VW bus.) The STDs rant is excerpted in the first clip below but I encourage you to watch the entire speech. The Democrats themselves could not have a cast a better spokesbagger for the Tea People than Imam Bin Robertson.

CPAC To Honor Phil Robertson With "Defender Of First Amendment" Award

Via the Hollywood Reporter:
Fourteen months after he sparked a major controversy for making remarks widely perceived as anti-gay, Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has been named the recipient of a free-speech award from Citizens United, an organization routinely disparaged by Hollywood liberals. Robertson will receive the "Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award" at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, which is better known as CPAC and is one of the biggest annual events for prominent movers and shakers on the right. "Even when the entire mainstream media demanded he disavow his beliefs and attempted to have him fired from his own hit show for expressing these beliefs, he stood firm in his faith,” Citizens United president David Bossie said.
Breitbart, should you have forgotten, was murdered by President Obama either by poisoning or with a subsonic death ray fired from a low-orbit satellite.

If Alan Robertson Had A Gay Grandson

"I would say, ‘Well first of all, I love you. I’ll never stop loving you. You’ll always be my grandson, but I want to show you what God says, and I want to show you maybe a way to reconsider what you think you are, and maybe you can be something different. I realize that people who feel like they’re gay or trans will tell you, ‘Look, I don’t want to be changed. I don’t want you telling me I can be anything different.' I would tell them respectfully from a biblical perspective, ‘I don’t think that’s the answer,’ and I would tell my grandson that or anybody else that I run into – and we have done that quite a bit in ministry – but we do that in a sense that’s not judgmental. I wouldn’t say, ‘Get out of here. What’s wrong with you? You’re terrible.’ I would do it in love, and I would try to show them something better." - Duck Dynasty cast member Alan Robertson, speaking to Huff Post Live.

RELATED: Robertson and his wife released a book this week in which they reveal that she has had an abortion and that she had a 14-month affair.

Duck Dynasty, The Musical

Yes, this is going to be a thing.
Undertaking one of the more audacious theater projects in recent years, the Robertsons — known for their long beards, duck-hunting merchandise and occasional inflammatory remark — are moving to expand their Louisiana-based multimedia franchise with “The Duck Commander Family Musical.” The 90-minute show, with actors playing the family members from A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” as they celebrate the family’s long history from rags to riches, hopes to open in February at the Rio hotel and casino, where the Chippendales show and Penn & Teller are now running.

Even before rehearsals start, the show is courting controversy. Several Broadway producers, many of whom are liberal, gay, or both, are aghast that colleagues would work with a family whose patriarch, Phil Robertson, has compared homosexuality to bestiality. Gay rights leaders are also eyeing the show with concern, while evangelical Christians — many of whom admire the Robertsons — might be hesitant to go to a Las Vegas casino and see whether New York artists have fairly rendered the family.
The show is being produced by Michael David, the same guy that brought you the multiple Tony-winning Jersey Boys. The show's gay-married director Jeff Calhoun, who won the Tony for Newsies, says that he and the Duck Dynasty clan have "agreed to disagree" on gay issues.

LOUISIANA: Teabagger Duck Dynasty Kin Zach Dasher Loses Bid For US House

Dasher, whose campaign slogan was "My platform begins with God," was seeking to unseat sanctity of marriage champion GOP Rep. Vince McAllister, who was busted cheating on his wife earlier this year. Both finished behind Democrat Jamie Mayo and Republican Ralph Abraham, who will now proceed to a December runoff. McAllister spent less than a year in the House after winning a 2013 special election to replace retiring GOP Rep. Rodney Alexander.

New Zach Dasher Ads: Bibles And Guns Brought Us Here & They'll Keep Us Here

In three new campaign ads, the US House bid of Louisiana's Zach "My Platform Begins With God" Dasher is endorsed by Phil Robertson (Dasher's uncle), and Sen. Ted Cruz, who's apparently OK with vertical cellphone video ads. Via NOLA.com:
Fifth Congressional District candidate Zach Dasher's new ad says he believes in guns, and he's just unloaded the biggest gun he has. Dasher's uncle, "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson, appears in two new television ads that will run district-wide Monday until Election Day on Nov. 4. The campaign described it as a "significant buy" but would not disclose exact figure for the buy.

Dasher, a Republican, is trying to unseat incumbent Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz. McAllister is a former Robertson family ally, but he lost favor with the famous family from West Monroe after video surfaced earlier this year of the married congressman kissing a married female staffer.

The two 15-second ads show images of Robertson and Dasher while Robertson touts Dasher's conservative and religious values while praising his nephew for his strong moral character. One ad shows Robertson holding an assault-style rifle while he explains the importance of "Bibles and guns." "Bibles and guns brought us here, and Bibles and guns will keep us here," Robertson says in the ad. "Zach Dasher believes in both. That's why I'm voting for him."
Dasher has also been endorsed by Sarah Palin and by fellow Louisiana native Tony Perkins.

Duck Dynasty Kin Runs For Congress

Zach Dasher, nephew of Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, is running for the US House in Louisiana. As you'd expect, his wife has an opinion on homosexuality.
In one blog on the controversy surrounding Phil Robertson’s suspension from A&E for anti-LGBT comments made to GQ, Dasher’s wife, Jil, writes that she’s seen people who have “come out of” addictions like homosexuality in her home. Dasher compares it to an addiction, akin to heroin and alcohol. “I have had folks sit on my couch who have come out of all kinds of addictions; alcohol, heroin, homosexuality, etc and hear them talk of healing and how they were able, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to overcome a life that was destroying them. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?” Dasher has made his religion a central part of his platform telling Sean Hannity, “my platform begins with God.”
Dasher is one of five Republicans running against incumbent Rep. Vince McAllister, the sanctity of opposite marriage defender who was busted on video in April as he made out with a female employee. The Dashers home school their four children. Of course! Louisiana's primary is November 4th.

Duck Dynasty Bible To Be Published

Via the Christian Post:
Two cast members of the A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty" have announced the release date of their most recent book, a Duck Commander-themed Bible slated to be released online and in retail stores on Oct. 28. The new book, titled The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible, will include a New King James version of the Bible, as well as 30 testimonials and 125 inspirational notes from Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Robertson family on A&E's "Duck Dynasty," and his son Alan Robertson, known as the "beardless brother" because he is the only male Robertson family member who lacks a long, burly beard.
The bible will be sold alongside Duck Dynasty bobbleheads, beer koozies, chia pets, and dog tags.
