Sam Smith Dominates 2015 Grammys

Tonight was the Sam Smith Show at the Grammys:
The Grammys stayed with Sam Smith throughout the 57th awards show Sunday in Los Angeles. "Thank you all for the best night of my life" remarked a grateful Smith as he took home four top awards: best new artist, song of the year and record of the year for Stay With Me, and best pop vocal album for In the Lonely Hour. "Before I made this record I was doing everything to try and get my music heard," Smith said. "I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen."
When Smith picked up his fourth award, he quipped, "I just want to thank the man that inspired me to write this record. You broke my heart and now I’ve got four Grammys." Beyonce picked up another three Grammys, moving her ahead of Aretha Franklin to second place on the all-time list for female artists. The full list of 2015 Grammy winners is here.

Ben Shapiro Has The Grammy Sadz

"This wasn't an argument for same-sex marriage. It wasn't even attractive image-making on behalf of same-sex marriage. It was hatred of Biblical values cloaked in pietistic nonsense. The same folks standing up for same-sex marriage at the Grammys largely scorn the institution of marriage itself. The only time they embrace marriage is when it is being mocked, undermined or perverted. That's not a cuddly case for same-sex marriage. But this is Hollywood unmasked: angry, vindictive, self-righteous, anti-Biblical. The case for same-sex marriage rests on an application of Biblical principle -- monogamy and commitment -- to actions condemned by Biblical text. For years, Hollywood was able to get away with perverting the Bible by ignoring it. But in its rush to congratulate itself for overthrowing Biblical values without a shot, Hollywood spiked the football and revealed its true agenda. And that agenda is not the agenda of tolerance for individuals, but an ugly agenda of unearned moral superiority via destruction of traditional values." - Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro, writing today for Townhall.

HomoQuotable - Dan Savage

"Damned if they do, damned if they don't—we've heard this song before. The queers complaining about Macklemore & Ryan Lewis now remind me of the queers who used to bitch and bitch and bitch about how big beer companies didn't advertise in queer publications or sponsor pride parades. ('Queer people drink a lot of beer! They want us to support them and buy their beer but they don't want to support us and our community!') But when big beer companies began advertising in queer publications and sponsoring pride parades... the exact same queers who had been complaining about how big beer companies weren't advertising in queer publications or sponsoring pride parades immediately started bitching about how the beer companies were trying to profit off our sexuality. ('The pride parade is not for sale! We are a community, not a commodity!') Blah blah bitchy blah. [SNIP] Attacking people who are on our side and having a huge impact isn't going to get us to equality any faster. And if sane queers say nothing when our 'imperfect allies' are swarmed by ingrates and idiots—and no one is perfect, ally or otherwise—then we're pretty quickly going to run out of allies." - Dan Savage, writing for the Stranger. GOP House Rep Has The Grammy Sadz

From the Facebook page of Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS): "Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't value the same conservative beliefs we do in Mississippi. Last night's demonstration at the #Grammys is a perfect example of their disconnect." Palazzo was elected in the Tea Party wave of 2010. He has a 0% rating from the Human Rights Campaign. CBS: We Didn't Avoid Grammy Kissing

CBS has issued to a testy response to a Buzzfeed post which wondered why there no shots of the couples kissing after their wedding vows at the Grammys.
CBS reacted defensively to the suggestion, and said that there had not been a decision to avoid showing same-sex kisses or any others. “It was a groundbreaking and inclusive moment on television and for all who were in the room last night. It’s hard to believe that this is BuzzFeed’s takeaway from this event,” said Phil Gonzales, senior vice president of communications. When asked separately if a decision was made in the control room at the show to not include the kisses — or if any such decision was made — Gonzales simply said, “No there wasn’t.”
It sure seemed like they purposely cut away.

Bryan Fischer Has The Grammy Sadz

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
We can add Bryan Fischer to the list of anti-gay activists who were outraged by the Grammy Awards, as he proclaimed on his radio show yesterday that Beyoncé's opening number a "complete raunch-fest" that was "inexcusably tawdry" and only served to set the tone for the "abomination" of seeing several gay couples get married later in the program during a performance of the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis song "Same Love." "If you care about children," Fischer said, "this thing ought to appall you because gay marriage is bad for children. In fact, same-sex parenting - I'm going to be very direct here - same-sex parenting is a form of child abuse."

Illinois Hate Group Has The Grammy Sadz

"Beyoncé’s vulgar anti-woman, anti-marriage performance foreshadowed the climactic set piece of the evening: Queen Latifah, long-rumored to be a lesbian, officiated at the 'weddings' of 33 couples, many of whom were same-sex couples, while accompanied by the preachy, feckless song 'Same Love' by Macklemore and the song 'Open Your Heart' by the Dorian Gray-esque Madonna. It was a sorry, sick, non-serious ceremony that looked like something from the garish dystopian world of the Hunger Games, replete with a cheering sycophantic audience, faux-stained glass windows, a faux-choir, a homosexual faux-pastorette, and 'Madonna' with her faux-face. It was a non-wedding festooned with all the indulgent gimcrackery of Satan’s most alluring playground: Hollywood." - Laurie Higgins, of the SPLC-certified hate group, the Illinois Family Institute.

Trent Reznor: Fuck You, Grammys

Spin has the story in case you didn't see it happen live.
Last night, Nine Inch Nails set the 55th annual Grammy Awards aflame with a show-closing performance joined by Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl, and Lindsey Buckingham. And, in the midst of QOTSA's "My God Is the Sun," the telecast cut to sponsor name-checks and the end credits. Not long afterward, NIN maestro (and recent SPIN cover star) Trent Reznor wrote on Twitter: "Music's biggest night... to be disrespected. A heartfelt FUCK YOU guys." The show had gone more than its allotted three-and-a-half hours (!), and in recent years the same fate has befallen Arcade Fire, a supergroup of LL Cool J, Chuck D, Tom Morello, Z-Trip, and Travis Barker, and even Stevie Wonder. (Then again, a couple of years ago nobody pulled out the hook for Grammy closer Paul McCartney.)

Quote Of The Day - Queen Latifah

“I look forward to the day when presiding over a historic wedding ceremony like this is just the norm. To me, it was special to all the couples we married today and I look forward to dashing off to go sign their marriage certificates. It’s awesome. I had to get sworn in as a commissioner for the state of California, so I’m not an ordained minister like I said, but I’m a commissioner. So you can call me to commish – Queen Commish!" - Queen Latifah, telling reporters had her authority to officiate expired at midnight last night. When asked if she would ever get married on national television, she returned to her stock position: "That would probably be something I would keep for me."

The Grammys Were Demonic

CBS Sports mocks:
I have no idea what McCarron is talking about. Personally I found Beyonce's performance to start the show to be a religious experience, but not the demonic kind. The strangest thing about all of this to me, though, is that McCarron sent out this tweet before bands like Metallica and Nine Inch Nails performed. Usually its the hard rock bands being linked to evil, not the pop stars like Katy Perry. Maybe what McCarron meant was that there must be evil forces at work for some of last night's winners to be deemed award-winning musicians. Or maybe he just saw Taylor Swift dancing. If that's the case then I totally get where he's coming from.
McCarron won back-to-back national championships as the quarterback for Alabama. Some expect him to be a first round draft choice for the NFL. The next Tim Tebow?

Hate Group Has The Grammy Sadz

"They can say this is not a stunt, but that's exactly what it is, a piece of musical agitprop to mock the traditional values of conservative American Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others. Entertainers never want to have a debate, just a series of arrogant 'statements' with no opportunity for a conversation as they flush the Bible on national TV." - Tim Graham of the Media Research Center, whose founder Brent Bozell once described President Obama as a "skinny ghetto crackhead."

Macklemore, Madonna, Queen Latifah:
34 Couples Marry At Grammy Awards

This clip will not last on YouTube. What did you think?

Tonight's Grammy Awards To Feature On-Stage Marriages Of Gay Couples

At tonight's Grammy Awards, Queen Latifah will officiate the on-stage mass weddings of 34 couples, including gay couples.
At the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, pop’s megastars will compete for the music industry’s most prestigious trophy, and put on flashy performances that are sure to ricochet through social media. But the producers behind the program, which is to be broadcast live by CBS at 8 p.m., are hoping that the biggest show-stopper of the night will be a much more solemn event: an on-air wedding of 34 couples — gay, straight, old, young, of many races and many colors. The ceremony will be part of the hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s performance of their Grammy-nominated song “Same Love,” which became a marriage-equality anthem last year just as that issue was drawing intense national attention.

The segment follows what the Grammy organizers said was the show’s long history of addressing timely social issues through music, like Elton John’s duet in 2001 with Eminem, who was then widely criticized as homophobic. “We’re serious about this,” said Ken Ehrlich, the longtime producer of the Grammys. Yet as part of a televised awards show that works hard for its ratings, showbiz will also play a part in this sacrament. Queen Latifah will officiate at the nuptials, and Madonna will join the number with Macklemore, Mr. Lewis and the song’s featured vocalist, Mary Lambert. Grammy organizers said they knew that controversy might be inevitable, given those who oppose gay marriage or who might see the segment as trivializing a serious matter.
Tomorrow's sadz will be thunderous. The biggest question I have is whether Queen Latifah will use the occasion to finally come out.
