TRAILER: Light Wins

Kyle Mantyla writes at Right Wing Watch:
Radical Religious Right activist Janet Porter has released yet another trailer for her upcoming documentary "Light Wins: How To Overcome The Criminalization Of Christianity," which features a who's who of anti-gay activists as well as several Republican members of Congress and presidential hopefuls Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee. "Like a tank in Tiananmen Square," Porter says, as she walks down the middle of a dark street as a pair of headlights bear down upon her, "the homosexual agenda has been running over people since Anita Bryant's courageous stand in the 1970s." After that, it is nothing but 10 minutes of anti-gay activists calling upon Christians to rise up and fight back against the "homosexual agenda."
So many of the most infamous anti-gay villains are in this clip, your computer might just explode from all the spittle-flecked crackpottery.

Black Conservatives Group Aligns Itself With Anti-Gay World Congress Of Families

From a press release published by Christian Newswire:
The World Congress of Families is pleased to announce that the Black Conservative Summit (BCS) Leadership Initiative this fall in Washington D.C. organized by Freedom's Journal Institute has been designated a World Congress of Families Special Event. This year's summit will feature some of the leading Black conservatives and Christian leaders from across the country, including Bishop Harry Jackson, Ken Blackwell, Day Gardner, Ben Kinchlow, Dr. Eric Wallace, Dean Nelson, Walter Hoye, Bishop E.W. Jackson, Former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint and U.S. Senate chaplain Barry Black. The event's theme is "Advancing Conservative Principles and Stemming the Liberal Tide: A Matter of Faith, Race and Politics."

Freedom's Journal Institute is devoted to research, education, and the advancement of public policy that promotes Responsible government, Individual liberty and fidelity, Strong family values, and Economic empowerment (R.I.S.E Principles) in the urban community from a biblical perspective. We believe that at no other time in American history has the fight to uphold our nation's founding principles required our undivided attention. WCF Managing Director Larry Jacobs stated: "We're honored to be involved with this historic conference, particularly because of its emphasis on the natural family." Organizers explain: "Both historical and biblical precedence bears witness to the fact that the 'natural family' is the foundation of our society."
RELATED: Last week the Illinois-based World Congress of Families held a conference at the Kremlin where it issued a call for more nations to criminalize homosexuality. Among those in attendance was NOM president Brian Brown.

Evangelists And Anti-Gay Activists To Take America Back From Satan

Crazy Eyes, Mat Staver, Todd Starnes, and "Bishop" Harry Jackson are among the evangelicals and anti-gay crackpots who plan on descending upon DC next month to get their "Christian rights" back.  Among the sponsors: World Net Daily and the Gun Owners Of America. At least they'll get a bigger crowd than Operation American Spring. The event was promoted yesterday with a wrap-around cover on the Moonie Times.

Tens Attend "Ex-Gay Awareness" Soiree

The Christian Post reports that "about 60 Christian leaders and ex-gay individuals" attended yesterday's "First Annual Ex-Gay Awareness Dinner," which was held in a super-secret bunker deep under Washington DC.
"When gays come out of the closet they are celebrated in the movies and on TV, when an ex-gay tells his story, he's mocked, ridiculed, defamed – and ask Trace McNutt, he gets death threats," Christopher Doyle, co-founder and president of ex-gay group Voice of the Voiceless, explained. He called for the movement to go on the offensive with the message that people can determine their sexual identity. Doyle emphasized youth outreach, especially to Christians who suffer from same-sex attraction (SSA) but want to still maintain their faith. "Somewhere along the journey, they listened to the lie that they had to rid themselves of all homosexual feelings in order to be loved by their church, their community, and an opposite sex partner, so they gave up and went into the gay lifestyle," the VoV president explained.
Keynote speakers at the dinner were hate group leaders Bishop Harry Jackson and Liberty Counsel president Mat Staver.  Performing the apparent winner of their "ex-gay theme song" contest was Dennis Jernigan, who debuted the surely catchy Rise Up.  Also speaking was PFOX president Greg Quinlan, who regularly testifies against LGBT rights before state legislatures and who once told a television audience that Truth Wins Out founder Wayne Besen had threatened to "inject him with AIDS."

Harry Jackson To Keynote "Ex-Gay" Thing

"It is my great honor and privilege to address this historic celebration, and I know that I and many others will be encouraged to hear the amazing testimonies of the men and women who have left homosexuality when they share their stories on September 30. At a time when our nation’s moral fabric is decaying, this night promises to be an inspiration to us all." - Pastor Harry Jackson, announcing that he will keynote the "First Annual Ex-Gay Awareness Dinner."

Gays Are Wolves In The Dog Park

"You and I may agree that it should be legal to walk a dog in a particular public park. But you may think that the term 'dog' includes only domesticated members of the Canis lupus familiaris species, and I may think that the term 'dog' can include large gray wolves. You may argue that 'dog' should be defined by the laws and traditions that have governed dog ownership for generations, and I may feel that such an approach in unfair to people who want to walk wolves in the park. The point is that we cannot get anywhere until we agree on what a 'dog' is.  Homosexuals are not being denied 'marriage' rights any more than wolf enthusiasts are being denied dog-ownership rights." - Harry Jackson, channeling Frothy Mix and his napkin/paper towel argument.

NOM's Hate March: A Cavalcade Of Crackpottery And One Catholic Drunk

NOM today published the above list of speakers scheduled for their hate march on the Supreme Court.  Hopefully there'll be an open bar for busted drunk driver Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone and an emergency Botox station for Concernstipated Women head Penny Nance.  And we can only presume that New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz will bring along the same speaker who told attendees at the last NOM hate march that homosexuals are "worthy of death."  As for "Bishop" Harry Jackson, let's just hope he doesn't curse the Washington Blade into bankruptcy, as he claims to have done with other "Satanic gay publications."  DC police should also keep an eye on Jim Garlow, who has called on pastors to emulate to the Founding Fathers and "pick up a musket" against evil homosexuals.

Harry Jackson Files Prop 8 Brief

"Bishop" Harry Jackson has filed a Supreme Court brief against the overturn of Proposition 8. Jackson is being represented by Brian Brown's ActRight Legal Foundation, which is headed by Tea Party lawyer Cleta Mitchell, who in 2011 argued NOM's battle to evade financial disclosure in Minnesota. You may recall that Mitchell told Minnesota's election board that rabid homofascists will physically attack innocent Christians should their anti-gay donations be made public.   Jackson's SCOTUS brief mostly treads his tired "don't compare your sin to my skin" tropes.

Bishop Harry Jackson: I Personally Cursed A Gay Newspaper Into Bankruptcy

"One night I walked past one of those newsstands. As I was walking past it, I looked at that newsstand and they had some article about same-sex marriage and all that blasphemous stuff. And I laid hands on that newsstand and I said, 'In the name of Jesus, I CURSE THIS PAPER!' Less than two months, that paper went bankrupt. It was part of a six-newspaper chain! It went bankrupt! It went out of business! IT WENT UNDER! It did!" - Crackpot preacher Harry Jackson, presumably speaking about the Washington Blade, which as Good As You points out, quickly resurrected itself and remains in business three years after Jackson's failed "curse."  Hit the link for the audio and hear Jackson's audience react.

NOM Paid Bishop Harry Jackson $20,000

Documents uncovered by Mother Jones reveal that NOM has made (at least) a $20,000 payment to notorious carpetbagger Bishop Harry Jackson, whom you may recall tried to oppose DC's marriage law as a city resident even though he actually lives in Maryland. From Mother Jones reporter Adam Serwer:
As internal documents released during Maine's investigation into the group's finances asserted, "The strategic goal is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage; develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots." Jackson is exactly the kind of African American spokesperson the NOM memo envisions. "There's been a hijacking of the civil rights movement by the radical gay movement," he said on CNN after backing California's Proposition 8 in 2008. "You can't equate your sin with my skin." He has received $20,000 from NOM's education fund and has rallied support for same-sex marriage bans in Florida and Washington, DC, where he joined Councilmember Marion Barry to oppose a marriage equality bill in 2009.
Mother Jones notes that Jackson is apparently illegally soliciting tax-deductible donations.
Details on the funding for Jackson's personal organization, the High Impact Leadership Coalition, are also murky. The group, which shares an address with Jackson's church, spent $40,700 trying to defeat marriage equality in DC. It describes itself as a nonprofit and solicits tax-deductible donations on its website. However, it is not listed in current IRS or charity databases, and its trade name registered with the state of Maryland lapsed in 2011. HILC's name was originally registered by an organization headed by Jackson's wife that lost its tax-exempt status after failing to file federal tax forms. (Mother Jones sought comment from Jackson but received no response.)
Let's hope this has some legs. Holy Bullies blogger Alvin McEwen observes:
Don't be nonchalant about this, folks because it fills a missing piece of the puzzle. I have long suspected black ministers who are teaming up with NOM aren't doing it solely for their religious beliefs. This revelation about Jackson begs the question just what other black ministers does NOM have on it's payroll. And I would also be remiss if I didn't state the obvious - these ministers are betraying their own people.

Trans People Make Jeebus Cry

"There’s been a movement from 1967 to erase the sexual differences, the gender assignment that God has given. There has been an assignment of Hell trying to tell us that we need to be unisex, that we need to move into some kind of homogenous, androgynous zone. There’s been something in the culture that is trying to erase the image of God from before us. Marriage is supposed to be a reflection of Christ’s relationship with the Church, but also in the reality of that there is an understanding of femininity and masculinity that also reflect godly roles and assignments. How dare people have gender reassignment surgery that says the way God originally dedicated them to be was not good enough." - Harry Jackson, speaking at the Family Research Council's Watchmen On The Walls conference.
