Benham Brothers: If You Waver On Gay Marriage, You're Siding With Satan

"As our faith comes under fire – with today’s attack on religious liberty – we must remember that God uses fire to purify our faith. Fire draws a line in the sand: Are we in or out? With Him or against Him? There is no in between. We’ve heard some say, 'I’m just riding the fence, sitting quietly, waiting to see what happens.' To them we respond, 'The devil owns the fence. Choose which side you’re on, and jump to it. Besides, you can’t stand strong on top of a fence.' The Supreme Court’s ruling on gay 'marriage' made it painfully obvious that religious liberties, especially for Christians, are now in the cross-hairs of the militant, secular agenda that is fundamentally changing our country. This means we need to get off the fence and stand up. We’ve got to decide beforehand, i.e., today, what we’re going to do when our faith is actually under fire." - Jason and David Benham, writing for World Net Daily.

Tony Perkins Applauds Charlotte

"Hundreds of people packed out the small space in a heated debate over the city's special SOGI ordinance. In unprecedented numbers, more than 120 signed up to speak at the meeting before the members voted on a measure that would strip the First Amendment rights of anyone with a biblical view of sexuality. In the end, though, even carving out the most objectionable provision couldn't save the bill. Forty thousand emails, a few rallies, and several alerts later, members voted 6-5 to kill the bill -- handing the Left another crushing defeat in its bid to silence and punish conservatives for their views. At the meeting, homosexual activists insisted this was a matter of life and death for the LGBT community. The reality is, these efforts are a matter of livelihood and the death of freedom for Christians across America. Bakers, fire chiefs, policeman, lobbyists, teachers, wedding planners -- they're all being forced by the government to check their beliefs at the workplace door under measures exactly like this one. Fortunately, the American people are starting to catch on to the Left's march and demanding leaders send these SOGI ordinances where they belong: to the trash bin. Our thanks to everyone in Charlotte who stood on principle and sent a powerful message to the Left -- not in our town!" - Hate group leader Tony Perkins, via press release.

From Today's Charlotte Observer

"Do you enjoy the freedom to live according to your conscience without being forced to promote ideas or behaviors contrary to your convictions? Do you believe men should be prohibited from using women’s restrooms? Should a gay T-shirt maker be forced to create anti-gay marriage T-shirts? Should a Muslim baker be mandated to make a gay wedding cake? That’s exactly what this ordinance will do if passed. There are two obvious and disturbing common sense aspects to this provision. First, by allowing transgendered males to enter women’s restrooms our City is forcing all women, including mothers and daughters, to be put in uncomfortable situations in the privacy of bathrooms, locker and shower rooms.

"Second, it opens the door for male heterosexual predators to pose as women under the guise of being transgender. Remember, being transgendered is a psychological state of mind that anyone can claim, no matter what clothes they wear. From Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Olympia, Wash., there are real examples of heterosexual men dressing like women and entering women’s rooms with intent to commit crimes. Historically, civil rights have never been provided to protect behaviors or psychological states of mind." - David Benham, in an op-ed published today by the Charlotte Observer. Benham and his brother have organized a hate rally to take place tomorrow outside of the chamber of the Charlotte City Council.

CHARLOTTE: Haters To Stage Monday Rally Against LGBT Rights Ordinance

Via press release:
The City of Charlotte is poised to pass a burdensome ordinance that will further regulate businesses, involuntarily shackle them to a political agenda, and erode their clients’ most basic sense of security that many have come to expect and enjoy in North Carolina’s premier city. On March 2, 2015 the Charlotte City Council will vote on whether to amend the non-discrimination policy requirements for businesses that offer their services to the public (i.e. public accommodations), businesses that have contracts with the city, and businesses that offer vehicles for hire such as taxis and limousines. Public accommodations include retail stores, counseling businesses, schools, parks, gyms, museums, athletic stadiums, whether these are privately owned businesses or not. If you conduct business in Charlotte you will be required to allow men to use the female restrooms, showers, and locker rooms. Most businesses already have all-encompassing non-discrimination policies that have worked effectively for many years. Additionally, this law is unnecessary because there is not widespread discrimination of these groups to begin with.
Bolding is motherfucking mine. The hate rally is at 4PM outside the Charlotte City Council chamber.  JMG readers in Charlotte, please send us your photos and video if you attend.

HomoQuotable - Michelangelo Signorile

"The Benham brothers have attributes and just a general vibe that, for years, have translated as 'gay.' But obviously there are a lot of straight men, even homophobes, who now exhibit these characteristics, seemingly free to act on their creative instincts, more comfortable about it -- precisely because of the queer movement's challenge to conventional ideas about masculinity. Some of these men might be bisexual, openly or not. But a few years ago straight men who were something like this were labeled with the (dreadful) term 'metrosexual,' except metrosexuals were straight guys who were secure in being fashionable in part because they completely accepted homosexuality and supported gay rights. The Benhams decidedly do not. So have gay men actually liberated many straight men to the point that they can appropriate 'gayness' even while still being virulently anti-gay? And is that a good thing or a bad thing?" - Michelangelo Signorile, who found the Benhams "a bit flirty" during a recent interview.

FRC's Star-Spangled Sunday

Yesterday the Family Research Council and a cavalcade of anti-gay crackpots held an event that was pitched as a marking of the 200th anniversary of the national anthem. But, of course, the event was really more of a Christian get-out-the-vote rally laden with ominous claims about the end of religious liberty and the "movement to expel God from the public space" in the United States. Speakers included Mike Huckabee, loony E.W. Jackson, Sen. Ted Cruz, the Benham brothers, Penny Nance of the Concernstipated Women, and Pastor Rick Scarborough, who recently called for a class action lawsuit against homosexuality itself. The full clip is below, click around if you can bear it. (The event was two hours long, the clip repeats halfway through.)

UPDATE: The Charlotte Observer reports on the rally.
Two possible GOP presidential candidates joined with prominent leaders of the religious right in Charlotte on Sunday night to mark the 200th anniversary of the poem that became America’s national anthem. The evening of speeches, Bible verses, and music from First Baptist Church in uptown Charlotte was simulcast to 351 conservative evangelical churches across the country. These listeners and the event’s headliners – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and former Gov. Mike Hucakbee, both exploring a 2016 run for the White House – also heard a longer, religion-tinged version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” than those who stand and sing it at baseball games and Fourth of July celebrations. Asked whether “Star Spangled Sunday” amounted to a political rally in a tax-exempt church, Perkins insisted the celebration of Key’s words, written in September 1814 during a battle with the British at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, amounted to an appropriate tribute to the religious heritage that shaped America. “If you look at the history of Francis Scott Key, he was a Christian motivated by his faith,” Perkins said. “If you read the final stanza (of what became ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’) it is, I would say, nothing short of a prayer.”

Star Spangled Sunday

Aided by Sen. Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and the Benham brothers, the Family Research Council is glomming onto the bicentennial of the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner as one of those times that Jesus saved America.
Did you know that America has seen darker days in the past than those we are facing right now? 200 years ago we were in the midst of the War of 1812. The U.S. Capitol and the White House were burning. Average citizens like us hung their heads in shame. Then God intervened and a series of events occurred that saved America and led to the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. This year America is celebrating the 200th anniversary of our National Anthem. Few citizens have ever heard the story of how God used ordinary Christians to do extraordinary things during the desperate days of 1814. But on September 14th, during Star Spangled Sunday, a live nationwide webcast, we will tell that story as it's never been told before. You and your Christian friends will not want to miss this historic event.
FRC's co-sponsor of the webcast is Vision America, whose leader Pastor Rick Scarborough last year called for Christians to file a class action lawsuit against homosexuality itself.

Charlotte Pride: The Benhams Failed

Ten years ago the Benham brothers joined anti-gay activist Michael Brown in demanding that the Charlotte City Council ban gay pride events. David Benham: "This is filth, this is vile, and should not be allowed in our city." In more recent years I've reported on Brown's annual invasion of Charlotte Pride during which hundreds of his red-shirted Coalition Of Conscience followers march into the event with signs and promises of an eternal writhing agony in a lake of fire.

From Charlotte Pride:
Despite their best attempts — regularly coming back to protest Pride events with their father — Charlotte Pride has not been pushed into a closet and our community has not been ignored by city leaders. The Benham brothers and their family tried to silence us. They wanted us in the grave! Instead, they’ve only made us stronger, but we need your support to keep growing and to ensure no one ever tries to silence us again.

Protesters like the Benham brothers have dwindled in number each year, and Charlotte Pride has grown from just a few thousand 10 years ago to over 80,000 people over two days last year. With our success, the Benhams’ father even tried suing the city over our festival permits! But City Attorney Bob Hagemann successfully defended the city and told WFAE that Charlotte Pride is “an economic development benefit to the city and an entertainment opportunity for tens of thousands of people.

Won’t you help us? Donate directly today, or schedule your donation to coincide with National Give Out Day on May 15, when you’ll join thousands of community members just like you in supporting the LGBTQ community causes closest to your heart. Charlotte Pride isn’t dead. It hasn’t been pushed in the grave. We’ve never been denied a city permit, and our voices keep growing stronger, louder and prouder with each passing year. Let’s show the Benham brothers what true equality and community looks like. Donate today or on Give Out Day on May 15 and help make the Charlotte Pride Festival & Parade and all our many future events in years to come a success on which no amount of protesters can ever put a damper.

Benham Brothers Tell Glenn Beck: Gay People Are Controlled By Satan

The Benham brothers took their anti-gay crusade to Glenn Beck's show last night. Kyle Mantyla at Right Wing Watch recaps their "love" for gay people:
"It's a spiritual fight," Jason Benham said. "From the beginning of time, it was God and there was the Devil and both of them use people for their own purposes." Jason then recalled how Jesus had rebuked Peter by declaring "get behind me, Satan!" in Mark 8 to demonstrate this, as David added that it is all part of Satan's efforts to suppress the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Later in the discussion, Jason added that they are not attacking "the homosexual community" because the real issue is "God versus the Devil." "There is a small minority of people in this world, heterosexual and homosexual, that buy into the idea of this agenda that wants to silence people," he said. David added that, as Christians, they are "called to restrain evil so that good may flourish" and that is the role they are trying to play in America by taking a stand against the "demonic agenda to suppress the truth."
