Mat Staver Leaves Liberty University

There's some interesting news about Liberty Counsel chairman Mat Staver:
Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. announced the resignation of Dean Mathew Staver Monday. Staver has been an integral part of the law school since its inception a decade ago. Staver says the decision will allow him to spend more time with his wife, who is receiving specialized medical attention in Florida after a car accident over a year ago. He will continue to serve as a consultant and advisor to the law school and to President Falwell.
You might that in 2012, Staver and Liberty University were named in a RICO lawsuit filed by the lesbian mother of a child who was kidnapped to Central America rather than share custody. (Tipped by JMG reader Scott)

VIRGINIA: Male Liberty University Student Killed By Campus Cops At Female Dorm

Virginia's WDBJ reports:
A Liberty University student is dead after an altercation with a Liberty University Emergency Services Officer on Tuesday morning at an off-campus residence hall. According to the school, a Liberty University Emergency Services Officer was attacked by a male student in the lobby of Residential Annex II. The student was shot and killed. The officer was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment. Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. issued the following statement: “The Liberty University community is deeply saddened by this tragic event and is prayerfully supporting all those impacted." Some of the students we talked with complained about a lack of communication from the university about what was happening. They didn't receive any official notification about the incident.
More from Christianity Today:
A Liberty University student was shot and killed during an early morning altercation with a campus officer at an off-campus dormitory for women, according to local police. Police have yet to release the male student's name. Like many Christian colleges without coed dorms, Liberty policies state that "males are not allowed in female residence halls," including the Annex II where the shooting took place at approximately 4:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. Religion News Service points out that Liberty recently approved the carrying of concealed weapons on campus. "It appeared from the discussion that the board felt that allowing guns would increase safety on campus," school attorney David Corry told The Liberty Champion in April.

Jerry Falwell Jr: Boycotts Don't Work

"Boycotts are ineffective and only cost Christian organizations time and money. They are futile and ineffective. Boycotting is not how Jesus did business. He was a carpenter and routinely mingled with known sinners." - Jerry Falwell Jr, responding to a Christian Post survey of religious leaders on anti-gay boycotts.

Concerned Women head Penny Nance disagrees.
"One of the most notorious victories occurred in 1986, when an American Family Association (AFA) boycott successfully convinced 7-Eleven to ban its distribution of Playboy and Penthouse magazines. In 2008, too, an AFA boycott led to a McDonald's executive stepping down from a homosexual rights association board. We win moral victories, but might not always gain ground in the public arena. But if we abandon the argument, then there will be no light in the darkness."
American Family Association head Donald Wildmon claims that boycotts work, but only if you do them one company at a time. There must not be much internal dialogue with One Million Moms.
"You cannot boycott the world. That is why AFA has generally stuck to one at a time as with Home Depot now," said Wildmon, son of Don Wildmon, who has pioneered many boycotts. "The idea is that if you demonstrate effectiveness with one company, others are going to take notice and listen when you approach them." "A boycott is only after you have exhausted all other means of getting results such as persuasion based on the reasonableness of your request," Wildmon argues.

"With companies, we just ask that they remain neutral in the culture war, not support one side or the other. Home Depot, for instance, has actively participated in homosexual pride parades across the country. For AFA, that crosses the line. We are not so much concerned about a company's internal affairs with their employees. It's when they financially support activism that we have a problem with. For example, giving financial contributions to the Human Rights Campaign or Planned Parenthood."
Home Depot's stock value has almost tripled since the AFA launched their boycott.

Quote Of The Day - Jerry Falwell Jr.

"Donald Trump has publicly expressed his support for our university’s mission to preserve the founding values of our nation. In the wake of the greatest expansion of government since FDR, Mr. Trump stepped right into the bull’s-eye and used his platform to fight for the preservation of capitalism, the free market, and limited government. He did numerous speeches, called out the president and congress by name, and was willing to say publicly what many conservatives were only saying privately.

"Trump is one of the nation‘s foremost proponent’s of fiscal conservatism, a value upon which this university, and our Schools of Law, Business, and Government, are staunchly committed, and have always been committed. A proponent of these values is a friend of Liberty University." - Jerry Falwell Jr, announcing that Trump will speak at his school. Presumably Trump won't mention being thrice-married.

Satan Jr. Demands That GOProud Be Booted From CPAC 2010

Jerry Falwell Jr. has joined the call to ban GOProud from co-sponsoring the wingnut confab CPAC-2010 and has cosigned a letter threatening to pull out of the event if the dirty homos are allowed to appear.
A pro-family leader says organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference are engaging in "moral surrender" by allowing a Republican homosexual activist group to co-sponsor the prestigious event. Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., and Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver have sent a letter to American Conservative Union chairman David Keene, warning him they will boycott CPAC 2010 if the homosexual activist group GOProud is allowed to remain as a co-sponsor of the February event. The letter, which was signed by other conservative Christian leaders, asks Keene to respond by 5:00 p.m. today. Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, was one of the first social conservative leaders to sign the letter. He believes CPAC's embrace of GOProud is symptomatic of a broader problem -- what he calls the "dumbing down of the pro-family stand in the public policy arena."
