TRAILER: War Room

Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is urging his Facebook supporters to see this upcoming Christian flick, which appears to feature a cameo by Kirk Cameron although he does not appear on the IMDb cast list. More interesting is that the film's directors, brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, are besties with the Duggar family and even appeared in a 2010 episode of 19 Kids And Counting which was titled Duggars Go Hollywood.

Kirk Cameron Thanks Atheists For The Free Publicity For Saving Christmas

"'I don’t care what you say about me, just spell my name right,' declared famous showman P.T. Barnum — founder of what today is The Greatest Show on Earth, the Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus. Playwright Oscar Wilde put it another way: 'The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.' That’s a lesson militant atheists apparently have forgotten. In the last week, we’ve seen an unprecedented campaign against Christian moviemaker Kirk Cameron’s film Saving Christmas. But the ironic thing is they are inadvertently filling theaters with moviegoers wondering what all the fuss is about. Saving Christmas was originally scheduled for a limited two-week run in a few selected cities. However, with all the publicity that atheists have generated denouncing the film, it has been held over — and is expanding to new cities." - From the website for Saving Christmas, in response to to the social media campaign that has made the film the lowest rated in IMDB history. Oscar Wilde!

According to today's report from Box Office Mojo, Saving Christmas played on 294 screens this weekend, a 17-screen increase from last week after opening on 410 screens two weeks ago. The film's per screen average of $495 was the lowest of all films tracked. With an average ticket price of $8.00, that means a total of about 33 people attended this weekend's 15 showings at each theater. That's two people per showing. But everybody got a great seat!

RELATED: The Imitation Game, the biopic about gay computer genius Alan Turing, played on only eight screens this weekend with a per screen average of $50,250, the highest of all films tracked. The Imitation Game goes into wide release on Christmas day.

Kirk Cameron Is America's Top Bottom

Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas is now the worst-rated movie in the history of IMDB, beating out such cinematic classics as Track Of The Moon Beast and The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed Up Zombies. I'd kind of like to see that second one. (Tipped by JMG readers Mike and Tom)

Kirk Cameron: Freep Rotten Tomatoes To Trick People Into Seeing My Movie

Via Raw Story:
Kirk Cameron is asking his fans to help boost the putrid reviews his new “Saving Christmas” movie has gotten on the website Rotten Tomatoes. The conservative Christian and former child actor took to Facebook after professional and amateur critics savaged the movie, which opened last week. “Send the message to all the critics that WE decide what movies we want our families to see!” Cameron posted. “If 2,000 of you (out of almost 2 million on this page) take a minute to rate Saving Christmas, it will give the film a huge boost and more will see it as a result!” “Jesus came back, saw this, and gave up on humanity,” wrote Justin H. at Rotten Tomatoes. The professional critic rating was an abysmal 10 percent on the review aggregating site, but Cameron’s fans had helped lift the audience score to 60 percent as of Friday afternoon.

Kirk Cameron: It Was Really Pagans That Stole Christmas From Christians

From the Christian Post:
"I'm making 'Saving Christmas' because I love Christmas, I love everything about it," Cameron told The Christian Post before rattling off several Christmas traditions such as roasting chestnuts, drinking hot chocolate, and enjoying Christmas stockings, stories, trees and food.  "I'm a sucker for all of it, and of course the nativity, and there's a lot of people who really want to put a big wet blanket on the celebration," Cameron continued. "It starts this time of year. You have people who want to pull down nativity scenes, you have lawsuits showing up in schools that can't have Christmas performances ... it has to be winter break or holiday break or sparkle season ... they want to take that out of Christmas so they don't offend people who hate Christmas. And then we have a new group who are telling us, convincingly, that Christmas is actually a celebration of paganism." The "Growing Pains" star dismisses theories that Christmas is derived in the pagan celebration of Winter Solstice in "Saving Christmas," offering viewers a Biblical reference to items such as the Christmas tree instead. Furthermore, the film reveals Cameron's take on Santa Claus, the three wisemen, and why Christmas is celebrated on Dec. 25 each year. "We don't know this stuff, we kinda drink the Kool-Aid and believe pagans when they tell us they have ownership of these things," Cameron explained.
Cameron doesn't tell the Christian Post where the bible mentions Christmas trees. The movie opens on Friday.

Kirk Cameron: Anti-Christians Hacked My Movie Site Because They Hate Christmas

Via the A.V. Club:
As first reported by Glenn Beck’s The Blaze—easily the Variety of whatever Kirk Cameron is doing—the Saving Christmas website was taken over by Ayyildiz Tim International Force, a group that has also hacked pages run by the United Nations, before turning its attention to those who are really making a difference. The site was reportedly replaced with a banner image of a man in armor—believed to be the Muslim sultan Saladin, who fought Christian crusaders in 788 to 793 B.C. (Before Cameron)—along with Turkish text reading, “The Turkish spirit will shine again and the use of weapons will emerge in the nation’s history as this hero will shine again.” It’s also believed that Saladin will not attend Kirk Cameron’s Christmas party. Oddly enough, the Ayyildiz Tim Twitter account doesn’t actually boast about hacking Cameron’s website itself—and in fact, it only retweets The Blaze’s story about the hacking.
You might recall that Cameron also claimed that Facebook deliberately blocked the URL of his last movie, Unstoppable. Because Christian persecution. Convenient timing again, notes the A.V. Club.

Kirk Cameron Wavers On Marriage

The Daily Beast points out that early this month Kirk Cameron refused to condemn same-sex marriage in an interview with an Alabama newspaper.
Kirk Cameron, the teenage heartthrob turned Christian Right entrepreneur, the man who once called homosexuality “detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,” has recently changed his tune. He said in an interview earlier this month that Christians should look within, rather than blaming others for the “decay” in traditional values. “I think the greatest threat to marriage is not other people’s definition of marriage,” Cameron said in a telephone interview with the Alabama-based website AL.com. “The church isn’t taking God’s definition of marriage seriously. It’s not other people sabotaging marriage that’s the problem.” Tellingly, Cameron, who has previously taken an explicit position against same-sex marriage, declined to do so in the May 2 interview. Rather, he placed the blame for society’s ills on Christians themselves. “When people get too focused on redefining marriage, you’re distracted from the bigger problem—fornicators and adulterers… If the people sitting in the pews are fornicators and adulterers, the church will destroy marriages much more quickly than those outside the church. When God’s people mock marriage, God doesn’t take that lightly.”

Cameron Flick Grosses $2M In One Night

Kirk Cameron's new movie asks (and presumably answers) why God kills the fuck out of millions of people every year even though he loves them so fucking much. Here's how things went when the movie debuted this week.
Kirk Cameron's latest independently financed faith-based film, Unstoppable -- which ran on 700 screens Tuesday as part of a one-night live event -- has grossed over $2 million from approximately 150,000 ticket sales, according to Rentrak. By comparison, the Hugh Jackman-Jake Gyllenhaal drama Prisoners pulled in $2.2 million on 3,260 screens in the same time frame. That makes Unstoppable the most successful event in the history of NCM Fathom Events, the Colorado-based entertainment company founded in 2002 that broadcasts live simulcasts of everything from Metropolitan Opera performances to Rolling Stones concerts to big-name boxing matches in movie theaters around the country.
Cameron's 2008 movie, Fireproof, grossed $34M after being made for a mere $500K. (Tipped by JMG reader George)
