Hate Groups Threaten To Leave GOP If Gay Marriage Opposition Is Ended

The above hate group leaders and crackpots have signed a letter to RNC chairman Reince Preibus in which they threaten to end their support for the GOP if the party platform is amended to remove the opposition to same-sex marriage.  Here's an excerpt:

Many homosexuals are active in the GOP because they agree with Republicans on economic issues. The fact that the Party is strongly committed to traditional marriage has not prevented their involvement through GOProud or Log Cabin Republicans. We deeply resent the insinuation that we have treated homosexuals unkindly personally.

And we would like to point out that in the four blue states where voters narrowly voted for same sex marriage in 2012, Mitt Romney, who refused to discuss the issue, lost by an average of five points more than the state initiatives to preserve marriage.

We respectfully warn GOP Leadership that an abandonment of its principles will necessarily result in the abandonment of our constituents to their support. We could not change that even if we wished to.

As a gesture of good faith and an affirmation of its positions, we strongly recommend that the RNC meeting in Los Angeles on April 9th pass a resolution reaffirming its support of the 2012 National GOP Platform adopted in Tampa.

Traditional Values Coalition: FRC Shooter Was Carrying Our Address When Arrested

The head of the Traditional Values Coalition, an anti-gay group that is equally as vile as the FRC, is claiming that shooter Floyd Corkins was arrested while carrying their address.

“Clearly we need added protection after this. My understanding is we were the next target,” says Andrea Lafferty of the Traditional Values Coalition. Traditional Values Coalition is located in the 100 block of C Street in southeast D.C. “It is frightening to be, to know that you are probably the next person on the list to be shot,” Lafferty says. “I am concerned for my staff.”

Traditional Values Coalition President Andrea Lafferty said FBI agents visited her group's Capitol Hill offices hours after the Wednesday morning shooting as part of their investigation. The next day, she said, members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force came by and confirmed that "our information was in his pocket," including the location of the group's offices. "I was stunned," Lafferty told The Associated Press, adding that she believes her group may have been targeted. It wasn't immediately clear if that was the case. An FBI representative could not be immediately reached for comment late Friday.

As Lafferty notes in the NPR article, her group has been on the SPLC's hate list for much longer than the FRC, which was added in 2010. Lafferty claims she's gotten no response to requests for federal protection: "Under this Justice Department, Christians are a very low priority on their lists of concerns."

The group has at times enjoyed remarkable access to the halls of power — during the George W. Bush Administration, Sheldon and Lafferty visited the White House a combined 69 times, meeting personally with Bush in eight of the visits. But that does not mean that it has not long had a record of extreme gay-bashing. In 1985, Sheldon suggested forcing AIDS victims into “cities of refuge.” In 1992, columnist Jimmy Breslin said that Sheldon told him that “homosexuals are dangerous. They proselytize. They come to the door, and if your son answers and nobody is there to stop it, they grab the son and run off with him. They steal him. They take him away and turn him into a homosexual.” Sheldon later denied that he made the comments, but his website today includes strikingly similar language: “[S]ince homosexuals can’t reproduce, they will simply go after your children for seduction and conversion to homosexuality.” Elsewhere, it claims that “[t]he effort to push adult/child sex … is part of the overall homosexual movement.”

Last year the Traditional Values Coalition claimed that the passage of the federal Hate Crimes Act had literally outlawed Christianity in the United States. They then sent fundraising flyers to horrified seniors and raised buckets of money on that ridiculous lie.

CA Hate Group Launches Another Attempt To Repeal Gay Education Bill SB48

Yesterday the office of California's Secretary of State approved another bid to repeal the new LGBT education bill.

SB 48, also known as the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful Education Act, requires that LGBTs’ historical contributions be taught to California’s school students. The proposal, submitted by Lou Sheldon of the anti-gay Traditional Values Coalition, repeals SB 48′s requirement that instructional materials recognize those contributions. Sheldon also wants to undo the law’s provision that prohibits instructional materials that reflect adversely on people based on their sexual orientation and other characteristics. Backers of Sheldon’s initiative have until June 25 to collect the 504,760 valid signatures needed to get the proposal on the state ballot.

Another group headed by failed anti-gay politician Karen England expects to get approval for their own repeal campaign in February.

SPLC Alert: Anti-Gay Christian Group Lies In Fund-Raising Letter About Hate Crimes

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center's HateWatch column, the Traditional Values Coalition is raising money by claiming that the 2009 passage of the Matthew Shepard Act outlawed the Bible as "hate literature."

The Christian Seniors Association (CSA), a front group of the TVC, recently sent out a fundraising letter claiming that the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HCPA) of 2009, which added sexual orientation to the classes protected by federal hate crime legislation, “makes the Bible illegal ‘Hate Literature.’” The letter further claims that “under this law, criticism of homosexuality is deemed discrimination – just like racism,” and ultimately, the intent of the law is to “outlaw Christianity.” Scary stuff. Except that none of it is true.

The SPLC points out that the good Christians at the TVC have a long track record of shady fundraising, including one mailed campaign that pretended to be from the federal government.

The CSA – which bills itself as “America’s Christian alternative to the far-Left AARP” – has a history of fundraising letters that prey on unfounded fears and, in some cases, even mimic government documents. In 2006, the CSA mailed out bogus “U.S. Taxpayer Census” forms. The packet included a survey about Social Security and dark warnings about politicians raiding the program for personal gain. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the mailing did not explicitly point out that money donated to the CSA would go directly to the TVC.

The head of the CSA is married to Andrea Lafferty, the daughter of Lou Sheldon, who is the founder of the certified hate group, the Traditional Values Coalition. Just keeping that ill-gotten money in the family.

And of course, the above-cited quote from Rep. Hastings actually comes from his mocking and disbelieving reading of a proposed anti-gay poison pill to the Matthew Shepard Act. Sheldon knows that, but he depends on his Christianist followers to buy the lie.

The Wingnuts Have Outdone Themselves

Just when you think the bizarre lies of the Christianist right cannot possibly get any more outrageous, they go and outdo themselves........

Lou Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition is claiming that the hate crimes act currently before Congress will legalize numerous types of sexual crimes because the American Psychiatric Association lists certain sexual fetishes under a long list of "sexual orientations"

Got that? Because the hate crimes act will increase punishments for crimes based on sexual orientation, nobody can be prosecuted for sexual crimes. Did you head explode yet? Follow the bouncing logic:

The main purpose of this “hate crime” legislation is to add the categories of “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” “either actual or perceived,” as new classes of individuals receiving special protection by federal law. Sexual orientation includes heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality on an ever-expanding continuum. Will Congress also protect these sexual orientations-zoophiles, pedophiles or polygamists? Gender identity includes such gender confused behaviors as cross-dressing, she-male, drag queen, transvestite, transsexual or transgender. Under the Act, neither “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” are really defined. How can a law be enforced if the new classes receiving special protection remain undefined?

The sexual behaviors considered sinful and immoral by most major religions will be elevated to a protected “minority” class under federal law. Once “sexual orientation” is added to federal law, anyone with a bizarre sexual orientation will have total protection for his or her activities by claiming that Congress sanctions their appearance, behavior or attitudes. Inevitably this will negatively affect the performance of co-workers who are forced to work alongside of individuals with bizarre sex habits. Imagine working next to a person who gets sexual pleasure from rubbing up against a woman (Fronteurism) or enjoys wearing opposite sex clothing. These are “sexual orientations.”

Here's a partial list of the crimes the Tradition Values Coalition says will become legal under the Matthew Shepard Act, which is now known as the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009:

• Fronteurism -- which involves a man approaching an unknown woman and rubbing up against her buttocks. This is criminal behavior.
• Incest -- which is a crime (sex with a daughter or son).
• Necrophilia -- a crime (sex with a corpse).
• Pedophilia -- a crime (sex with an underage child).
• Prostitution -- a crime in most states.
• Zoophilia -- (beastiality) which is a crime in numerous states.
• Voyeurism -- which is a criminal offense in most states.

Tomorrow the House Judiciary Committee is expected to approve the hate crimes act for a vote by the full House. If it finally becomes federal law, Lou Sheldon must expect that the nation will erupt into a coast-to-coast orgy of corpse fucking.
