Teabagger US Rep. Paul Broun Flees Reporter Asking About Campaign Finance

Tea Party hero Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) made headlines in 2012 when he declared that evolution is "a lie from the pit of hell" and that the earth is only 9000 years old. Today a reporter tried to ask Broun why he's paying Michele Bachmann's former top aide over $33K to train him in "rhetorical skills." Because when you want to speak intelligently, you go to the person that trained Crazy Eyes. Broun is running to move up the Senate and recently gave away an AR-15 rifle as a fundraising gimmick.

How Teabaggers Run For The Senate

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is running for the Senate seat to be vacated by the retiring Saxby Chambliss. South Carolina state Rep. Lee Bright is challenging Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) in the GOP primary. And both are giving away AR-15 assault rifles to draw attention to their campaigns.

From Paul Broun:
"How would you like to start off 2014 with a brand new AR-15 for free?" reads a bold line in an email the congressman — who represents the 10th district in Georgia — sent his supporters, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "You see, it's no secret that the Democrats and liberal media would love to take away our guns and mandate every aspect of our lives, but I refuse to let them get away with that," he wrote in the email, the newspaper reported. "In fact, today, I have some exciting news for you."
From Lee Bright:
"I know the political talking-heads may sneer as they continue blaming guns and law-abiding gun owners for the acts of thugs and madmen. But I am the pro-gun, pro-Constitution candidate in this race for the U.S. Senate — and I can't think of a better way to get that word out than by giving away a brand new AR-15," Bright said in an email to supporters, according to the Huffington Post. "My hope is this AR-15 giveaway will also help me get my message of liberty out to tens of thousands of South Carolinians."
It would be a real shame if a progressive won one of the guns and publicly had it melted down. Hit their names for the entry forms.

Rep. Paul Broun To Run For Senate

Back in October, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) announced that evolution is a "lie straight from the pit of hell" and that anybody who doesn't believe the earth was created in six days needs Jesus.  He further declared that his votes in Congress were done under "direction from the Holy Bible."  Today Broun will declare his candidacy to replace Saxby Chamblis in the Senate.  This is good news.
A Broun candidacy would likely be welcome news for Democrats eager to revisit the list of Broun's incendiary remarks and to paint Broun as extreme—a label establishment Republicans are fighting against this election cycle after their 2012 presidential loss. Broun has also openly questioned President Barack Obama's citizenship and, last month, suggested Obama abides by the "Soviet constitution." Broun would likely be challenged in the primary. Former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel and Georgia Rep. Tom Price are among the Republicans regarded as potential candidates.

Rep. Paul Broun Explains Science

"All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior. You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I’ve found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I don’t believe that the Earth’s but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.  What I’ve come to learn is that it’s the manufacturer’s handbook, is what I call it.  It teaches us how to run our lives individually, how to run our families, how to run our churches. But it teaches us how to run all of public policy and everything in society. And that’s the reason as your congressman I hold the holy Bible as being the major directions to me of how I vote in Washington, D.C., and I’ll continue to do that." - Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), speaking at Liberty Baptist Church.

GOP Wants 2010 To Be "The National Year Of The Bible"

Fourteen GOP Congressmen have signed on as cosponsors of Rep. Paul Broun's House Resolution 121: "Encouraging the President to designate 2010 as The National Year of the Bible." Broun (R-GA) has also sponsored a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and a bill that would withhold federal funds from any school whose students recited the Pledge of Allegiance or the national anthem in languages other than English.

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) Says Obama Will Be A Fascist Dictator

Rep. Paul Broun says that Barack Obama's is planning a Gestapo-like civilian force to impose a dictatorship.
"He’s the one who proposed this national security force,” Rep. Paul Broun said. “I’m just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may —- may not, I hope not —- but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism.” Broun cited a July speech in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

“That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany, and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did,” Broun said. “When he’s proposing to have a national security force that’s answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he’s showing me signs of being Marxist.”

Obama’s comment came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation’s foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps “to renew our diplomacy.” “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” Obama said. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
We last heard from Rep. Broun when he tried to ban the sale of Playboy and Penthouse to overseas troops.

Rep. Paul Broun: No Porn For G.I.'s

As if things didn't suck enough for our guys overseas:
GRAFENWOHR, Germany -- Legislation that would restrict the sale of certain men's magazines on U.S. military bases around the world would be bad for morale, according to soldiers at Grafenwohr.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-GA [right], has introduced legislation that would close a loophole in the current law that allows the sale of some sexually explicit material on military bases by lowering the threshold required to deem material "sexually explicit."

A Department of Defense committee that reviews materials sold on bases ruled last year that magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse are not pornographic. But Broun's Military Honor and Decency Act includes language that could make those magazines eligible for the ban. The prospect of missing out on men's magazines was not welcomed by soldiers at Grafenwohr.

"We all read 'em," said Pfc. Paul Rubio, 31, of Bakersfield, Calif. "There are times we just read 'em for the technological parts like the new gadgets that come out. They have good stories sometimes too." Sgt. Simon Brown, 34, of Daytona Beach, Fla., said men's magazines build morale. "It's not all about the pictures, although 80 percent of it is," he said.
Send them to fight an obscene war, but don't let them read "obscene" magazines. Typical wingnuttery.
