Paul McCartney - Meat Free Monday

Stereogum recaps:
Meat Free Monday is a campaign to convince people who eat meat to skip eating it one day of the week to help reduce their carbon footprint. As any self-respecting Beatles fan knows (or Simpsons fan for that matter), Paul McCartney is a guy who skips eating meat seven days of the week. He once wrote a song titled “Meat Free Monday” to encourage people to take that pledge, and now it’s resurfaced with a new video. The campaign released a new lyric video for the track featuring photos sent in by fans who took the pledge. It was posted this week as global leaders flock to the UN headquarters in New York for the first major discussion on climate change since the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

Paul McCartney Wants In On Glee

Paul McCartney is so impressed with Glee that he sent the show's producers a tape of his music in the hopes of getting an homage episode like those recently given to Madonna and Lady Gaga.
Paul McCartney sent a mixtape featuring his music to Glee creator Ryan Murphy in an attempt to convince Murphy to include some of the songs in the upcoming season. "I received some fantastic mixtapes from Paul McCartney a couple of weeks ago. I thought I was being punked!" Murphy said at yesterday's Television Critics Association panel in Los Angeles. "It came out of blue in a package, handwritten, and it had two CDs and it said, 'Hi Ryan, I hope you will consider some of these songs for Glee' ... I had heard that he is a fan of the show. I was gob-smacked ... so of course we are going to do something with him."
It's not been revealed if the McCartney episode would use Beatles music or something from his solo catalog.

Obama Honors Paul McCartney

Last night the president awarded Sir Paul McCartney with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The award was created in 2007 and has also been presented to Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. After last night's ceremony, McCartney performed the Beatles classic Michelle for the First Lady, then brought everybody (including Obama) up on the stage for a singalong of Hey Jude.

This Week In Religious Nuttery

- Saudi Arabia's Islamic Sharia court has ruled that satellite television operators that beam "immodest" programming during Ramadan are subject to to the death penalty. Sheikh Saleh al-Lohaidan: "What does the owner of these networks think, when he provides seduction, obscenity and vulgarity? Those calling for corrupt beliefs, certainly it's permissible to kill them."

- Some Hassidic Jews in Brooklyn's Williamsburg want the city to remove existing bike lanes and cancel plans to add more lanes because female bikers in "immodest" workout clothes are riding through their neighborhood. The complaining parties also claim that bike lanes are dangerous to pedestrians. "Everyone understands and knows a bike lane is a nuisance."

- Islamic radicals have threatened to send suicide bombers to a planned Paul McCartney concert in Israel. "
Instead of supporting the people of Palestine in their suffering, McCartney is celebrating the atrocities of the occupiers. The one who is under occupation is supposed to be getting the help."
