Homocons Banned From London Pride

London Pride has banned LGBT members of Britain's right-wing UKIP party from participating in this year's parade. Via the Guardian:

Ukip has been banned from one of Britain’s biggest gay pride parades in an apparent U-turn by organisers who say they are worried about the safety of participants. The inclusion of Ukip in the original lineup of the Pride in London march set for 27 June had been controversial. Many in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community spoke out against the involvement of the party, which has been linked to a string of allegedly homophobic controversies. Following the creation of a petition calling for the party to be banned, Pride organisers said they had rejected Ukip’s application to take part on safety grounds.

Organisers said the decision was not politically motivated. London Pride has issued a statement:

We have reached the decision that UKIP’s application to join the Pride in London Parade, 27 June 2015, will be turned down. This decision has been made after careful consultation in order to protect participants and ensure the event passes off safely and in the right spirit, it has not been made on a political basis. We appreciate many in our community have strongly held views about UKIP, their policies and comments, but is undeniable that there are LGBT+ members of UKIP, including their MEP for Scotland, and it is important to remember that Pride in London aims to be an inclusive event. However, of paramount concern to us is the experience of all participants at Pride, most especially the position we would be putting our volunteer stewards in.

The organisers may now face a challenge from UKIP, who could argue that the move breaches a contract the organisers have to run the event. A note on their website reads: “Within this contract we pledged to create a world-class, diverse and inclusive event that provides a platform for the LGBT+ community to celebrate and campaign; and raise money to assist charities and organisations that safeguard and promote the welfare and rights of the LGBT+ community.” Excluding UKIP may fall foul of their responsibilities towards diversity and inclusivity. One LGBT member told Breitbart London: “Once again the LGBT lobby have said it’s great to be gay, but only if you have the right kind of views and are the right kind of gay. This is a sad day, but I hope it’ll bolster LGBT* in UKIP, help us to become more radical, and to be a home for LGBT people who do not feel they belong on the left”.

BRITAIN: Activists Dump Cow Dung At Headquarters Of Anti-Gay Political Party

HIV activists embraced in a gay kiss as they dumped half a ton of cow dung outside the South London office of UKIP. They were disgusted by UKIP leader Nigel Farage and other politicians in the party saying people living with HIV should be barred from coming to Britain. The World AIDS Day (1 December) protest symbolizes a rebirth by the London chapter of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power), a group which has had been less visible in the UK in the last decade. ACT UP activist Gary Hunter said: ‘We’ve had enough of UKIP’s misinformation and offensive attacks on minorities. We wanted to show Farage that people living with HIV aren’t going to take his BS any longer – so we’ve returned it. ‘The vile crap that UKIP keeps spreading stigmatizes and ostracizes people living with HIV, gay people and immigrants.

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG:  Early this year a UKIP member was suspended after declaring that God was ravaging Britain with floods because of same-sex marriage. Those comments spawned a social media campaign to return It's Raining Men back to the top of pop chart. The track did re-enter the chart and peaked at #21.

UK: It's Raining Men Re-Enters Pop Chart

Earlier this month a member of Britain's far-right UKIP party declared that God was flooding the country in anger over the legalization of same-sex marriage. That prompted a Facebook campaign to push It's Raining Men to #1 on the singles chart more than 30 years after its release. The Guardian reports that might happen:

Three decades after its original release, It's Raining Men sits at No 21 on the midweek singles chart, now less than 40 copies from entering No 20, according to the Official Charts Company. This is a meteoric rise for a campaign launched just over a week ago, and around 15,000 supporters have registered on the crusade's Facebook page. Yesterday, Jeremy Joseph, owner of the London nightclub G-A-Y, pledged a £1,000 donation to the Elton John Aids Foundation if the song cracks the end-of-week Top 20. This month's It's Raining Men campaign has the full support of Martha Wash, the sole surviving member of the original Weather Girls, who has been promoting the cause on Twitter. While Geri Halliwell's version of the song debuted at No 1 in 2001, the disco original only ever reached No 2.

When Margaret Thatcher died last year, a social media campaign succeeded in pushing Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead to #2 on the British single charts. This week there's a similar campaign after a now-suspended member of Britain's far-right UKIP party declared that God was sending floods because of gay marriage.

A Facebook campaign has been launched to get 80s classic ‘It’s Raining Men’ to number one in the UK charts after a UKIP councillor claimed the recent floods were a result of legalising same-sex marriage. Thousands of people have joined the social media campaign following UKIP party member David Silvester’s controversial remarks. "We believe that that show of strength to get a song to Number 1 will create a huge spotlight on our campaign for equality as a whole," explains the Facebook group. For decades now, this song has been used as a gay anthem, we thought it fitted all the better based on UKIP’s comments regarding storms and floods being caused by LGBT people and gay marriage. Let’s get It’s Raining Men to Number 1 to show the power and community of gay people pulling together is stronger than his idiotic views of us, as well as also celebrating the new laws being passed on equal marriage in the UK very soon."

According to the Facebook group, online oddsmakers are giving It's Raining Men a 5/1 shot at being number one in Britain next week. Former Weather Girls vocalist Martha Wash finds the flap rather amusing. From an email passed along by JMG reader Wayne:

First of all I don't know anything about David Silvester, but I did read the article about him and his comments and concluded that as a straight woman who supports the LGBT community, he is totally Daft (as the British would say). While he is entitled to his opinion, I feel he is out of touch with reality. To say that "storms and floods were caused by LGBT people and gay marriage".....Really? He sounds like someone living in the 80's when it was said HIV/Aids was caused by "gay people". I think some people need to buy a clue and realize that everything wrong or bad or catastrophic is not caused by gay people. I support same-sex unions or marriages (depending on where you live) and feel it should be equality for ALL!!! BTW I'm a Christian also and the God I serve is ALL LOVE for ALL People. HE knows who he created. In regards to using It's Raining Men to support this campaign, I have no problem with it. A member of Britain's right wing UKIP party has been suspended after he declared that God is sending bad weather to Britain because he's super-pissed about gay marriage. So of course, there's now a Twitter account for UKIP weather forecasts. 

BRITAIN: Member Of European Parliament Reveals She Is Transgender

After years of denials, a British member of the European Parliament, Nikki Sinclaire, today revealed that she is a transgender woman. Sinclaire says that she believes she is the first trans parliamentarian in British history.

MEP Nikki Sinclaire said she made the decision to undergo surgery over 20 years ago because if she hadn’t she ‘would have led a lonely, neurotic life, forever out of place’. The politician was a member of UKIP, as party secretary, until a falling out with leader Nigel Farage led to her resignation. She has since founded a new party, the single-issue We Demand A Referendum, campaigning for the British public to have the right to decide on EU membership. In a candid interview with The Sun, Ms Sinclaire revealed how she first realised she should have been female at the age of three. ‘It sounds weird, but I knew something was wrong even then — I’ve always felt I was in the wrong body. I remember dressing up as a girl on my first day of school. It then started to happen every day. The other kids knew I was different,’ she said.

RELATED: UKIP, the UK Independence Party, is often characterized as Britain's version of the Tea Party. UKIP has never won a seat in the House Of Commons, but they presently hold nine of the UK's 73 seats in the European Parliament. Sinclaire's just-founded We Demand A Referendum party is vehemently against the policies of David Cameron and as noted above is demanding a public vote on Britain leaving the European Union by 2015.
