VANCOUVER: Anti-Gay Crackpot Bill Whatcott Marches With Fake Group In Pride Parade, Hands Out Fake Condoms

In June, anti-gay crackpot and former prostitute Bill Whatcott staged his arrest with Porno Pete at a Calgary university where they attempted to distribute hate flyers. Two weeks ago Porno Pete slithered around San Francisco's Dore Alley Fair with his camera. And this weekend Whatcott marched with a fake group at Vancouver Pride where they handed out "condoms" that actually contained an anti-gay screed. That's Whatcott with the pink hair in the photo. He brags:

Dear Friends, I am pleased to announce that the Vancouver Gay Pride Committee allowed me to march in this year's homosexual pride parade and hand out 2500 "Gospel" condoms. Trojan condoms also was kind enough to donate 500 of their not safe enough latex condoms to my contingent, so we used them as a cover for our Gospel condoms that if read correctly and applied properly will guarantee you truly "safe sex" as in life long heterosexual marriage and also eternal life in the world to come. The bags my two activists Darcy and Jonathan are carrying in the video contain life saving and soul redeeming Gospel condoms. Thanks to the generosity of Trojan condoms we were able to cover up our Gospel condoms with a layer of Trojan condoms and avoid detection while we evangelized the entire parade route! While evangelism and the issues of homofascism and where one will spend the rest of eternity are deadly serious issues, we decided that seeing as we purchased our parade permit fair and square and seeing as all the pagans were having fun while rebelling against God, we would have fun too, while evangelizing the parade route and winning souls for the Lord.

According to Whatcott, only one parade-goer opened a fake condom in his group's presence. When she became visibly upset at the message inside, one of Whatcott's co-conspirators lied for Jesus and told her that she'd been mistakenly given the condom that he'd been handed by a "homophobe" at the parade. He then gave her one of the real condoms that they had fraudulently obtained from Trojan.

Here's a portion of the message enclosed in the fake condom:

Dear Homosexual Pride Parade Attendee, If you are attending Vancouver’s ungodly pride parade and have come to receive this literature, I want to let you know I am very pleased God has chosen you to be a recipient of the truth contained in this package. God has a plan for you that is much better than chasing the carnal desires celebrated as something to be proud of in the homosexual pride parade. Homosexuality is portrayed as an immutable, harmless, sexual orientation that is to be accepted and even celebrated. This is a lie. Anatomically everyone is heterosexual. The body is not created for sodomy. The truth is those who give themselves over to homosexuality suffer grievously because of their sin. In spite of billions of dollars being spent fighting sexually transmitted diseases ravaging the homosexual subculture, homosexuals are still suffering and dying from AIDS and other homosexually acquired diseases. In Toronto 23% of self-identified homosexuals admit to being HIV+. AIDS, anal cancer, and Hepatitis B are potentially fatal diseases that are rampant in Vancouver’s homosexual community. Is this something to be proud of?

VANCOUVER: Hospital Shuts Dedicated AIDS Ward Over Lack Of Patients

St. Paul’s Hospital has shut down its dedicated AIDS ward, saying they no longer have enough patients — and the end of AIDS is in sight. Ward 10C opened in February 1997 during the peak of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Vancouver, when approximately one person was dying of AIDS every day. Earlier diagnosis of HIV, along with advances in treatment and care, has resulted in a significant decrease of AIDS. Patients living with HIV will continue to receive world-leading treatment and care. The focus of the ward will include treatment related to addictions such as various bacterial and viral infections like chronic hepatitis.

British Columbia's number of AIDS cases has dropped by 90% since 1995.

Catholic Priest Arrested For Attempting To Lure 14 Year-Old Girl Into His Car

Archdiocese Of Portland's Father Michael T. Patrick has been arrested for attempted to lure a 14 year-old girl into his car on the streets of Vancouver.

Patrick, 57, is being held in the Los Angeles County Jail after being arrested as he returned from a trip to Australia. He's being detained on a Clark County arrest warrant. The alleged incident occurred on a Northeast Vancouver street at around 5:30 on March 10. The girl told police she was walking west on Northeast 28th Street when the driver of a silver or blue car looked at her "strangely," according to a probable cause affidavit. According the affidavit, the driver turned around and then came up behind the girl, passed her and then stopped the car in the bike lane. As the girl approached the car, the driver, she told detectives with the Vancouver Police Department, opened the driver's side door and said "Hey, get in." She told the man, "No," and then continued walking toward her home at a faster pace. The driver then drove alongside the girl, "asking her several times if she wanted a ride," according to court documents. Each time, she said responded "No." At one point, the girl told police, the man said "Come on, cutie."

The Archdiocese has refused to comment.

VANCOUVER: Foreskin "Intactivists" To Protest TED Talk By Bill Gates

Bill Gates is the most highly anticipated speaker at the TED Talks in Vancouver on Tuesday – but the Microsoft founder's philanthropic work is being protested by “pro-foreskin” activists. The Canadian Foreskin Awareness Project has criticized a program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which it said granted more than $160 million for 14 African countries' HIV/AIDS prevention programs encouraging male circumcision. “Circumcision does not prevent HIV,” said group founder Glen Callender. “Bill Gates means well, there certainly are things he's doing that I fully support, but I do not agree that circumcision is a valid or reasonable approach for 21st-century AIDS prevention.” He argued circumcision can create scar tissue and remove many sensory nerves in the penis. For University of B.C. Medicine's Dr. Richard Lester, the evidence linking HIV and circumcision is nearly unanimous – “as clear as you really can get in medical research,” the division of infectious diseases researcher said.

Bill Gates has donated more than $25M to the Clinton Foundation, which works on HIV/AIDS causes in Africa, among other projects. In 2012 the American Academy of Pediatrics shifted its position on circumcision, saying that "the medical benefits outweigh the small risk for baby boys." Also in 2012, a study by Johns Hopkins University declared that the declining US rate of circumcision would ultimately result in a higher incidence of STDs. That study was denounced by intactivists.

Cory Monteith Died Of Heroin Overdose

Glee star Cory Monteith died of a heroin overdose, according to a report issued last night by the British Columbia coroner's office.

"Our belief is that when he took the heroin he was alone," said Vancouver Police Department spokesman Brian Montague. He added: "There was evidence in the room that was consistent with a drug overdose. We're not providing exactly what we found at the scene." Police said it was too early for the coroner's office to conclude whether Monteith was the victim of a bad batch of heroin, which turns up from time to time in Vancouver. Monteith's death recalled the lives of Heath Ledger, Corey Haim and River Phoenix — actors who battled substance abuse and died in their 20s and 30s.

VANCOUVER: Students Stage Anti-Bullying Flash Mob At Pro Hockey Game

Various videos of the anti-bullying flash mob that stole the show at the Vancouver Giants' game Sunday are popping up on YouTube. Just over 1,800 students, all in pink shirts, were part of a dance number in the north end upper deck to One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful. It was to promote Pink Shirt Day, which is Feb. 27. Giants vice-president of business development Dale Saip said it involved schools from "five or six districts," and Sunday was the first time that the entire group was together. "It was an amazing amount of work and an amazing production and a tribute to the people who put that together," he said. "We're happy to accommodate and it works well with our message of anti-bullying."

VANCOUVER: Transgender Activists Glitter-Bomb Dan Savage Again

Ho hum. More misdirected anger from the Trans Mafia.

Dan Savage was glitter-bombed before his appearance at The Vogue theatre in Vancouver Jan 21, the third such action against the high-profile sex columnist and political commentator in recent months. A group of six activists, who named themselves The Homomilitia for the event, said they confronted Savage as he entered the theatre through a back-alley entrance. In an interview with Xtra after the confrontation, activist Fister Limp Wrist accused Savage of "ableist, racist, transphobic, fat-phobic, sero-phobic and rape-apologist attitudes and views." Activists handed audience members bright pink pamphlets outlining their accusations as they entered the theatre.

How did the usual "gay white male cisgender privilege" phrase not make it into that asinine statement? So disappointing. Savage told the audience: "If you have a disagreement with your allies, you discuss it. You don't attack them." Hello.

HIV/AIDS Plummets In British Columbia

AIDS deaths and new HIV infections are plummeting in British Columbia. Experts say the decline is due to an aggressive policy of placing the newly infected immediately on a drug regimen and thus reducing their infectiousness.

“We’re particularly pleased to see that our treatment-as-prevention strategy has taken off big-time,” said Dr. Julio S. G. Montaner, director of the British Columbia Center for Excellence in H.I.V./AIDS. His center was a pioneer in the strategy, which involves searching aggressively for people at risk of H.I.V. infection, talking them into being tested and putting those who are infected on antiretroviral drugs immediately, which lowers by 96 percent the chances that they will infect others.

Credit is also being given to Vancouver's "safe-injection" center where IV drug users can get and use clean needles on the premises.

San Francisco and New York City have also adopted "treatment as prevention" policies, but some HIV activists have denounced the idea due to questions about the long-term side effects of taking the medications for decades. Reknowned HIV/AIDS activist Sean Strub:

This is, in essence, a chemical quarantine. People should be given the option to take drugs to reduce their chance of transmitting to others, but to recommend treatment for people in the absence of conclusive science that it will, on average, provide a greater net benefit than harm, is unethical. Why haven't the NYC DOH--and the other promoters of "treat everyone with HIV, no matter their medical need"--been out advocating for the clinical trials to definitively answer the question as to when is the optimal time for a person with HIV to commence treatment? We know that some people with high CD4 counts can go years and years, some even decades, without going on treatment and suffering the cumulative toxicities of treatment. But now NYC DOH, as well as San Francisco's DOH, are advocating putting those people on treatment. This is not healthcare, it is a chemical quarantine.

An Off-Leash Cat Park?

The world's first off-leash park for cats has been proposed in Vancouver.

It is quite common in most urban public parks these days to have a designated area for dogs. These areas allow owners and their furry companions to have the freedom they may not feel in other urban spaces. Well, according to a group of cat owners in Vancouver's west-end it's high time the cat world gained this same privilege.

Cats can climb trees and dogs can't. Good luck getting Fluffy down when your lunch hour is over. And many cats can easily leap a fence that would defeat the average hound. So unless this park is treeless and completely screened in, I don't know how it would work. As for my Shelley, she completely freaked out when I tried to introduce her to the great outdoors that is the hallway on our floor. She also can't be around other cats due to her FIV+ status. I suspect that issue alone would kill this idea for the owners of uninfected cats, although there is a somewhat effective vaccine.

VANCOUVER: Comedian Fined $15K For Anti-Lesbian Insults

The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal has ordered a comedian to pay $15,000 in compensation for anti-gay insults he directed towards a lesbian couple during a 2007 show at a Vancouver comedy club.

Stand-up comedian Guy Earl was ordered to pay the money to Lorna Pardy, 32, while the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal also ordered the Vancouver restaurant owner, Salam Ishmail, to pay her $7,500. Pardy said Earle directed homophobic and sexist insults at her when she was a patron, and he was the master of ceremonies at an open mic comedy show at the restaurant in 2007. Earle said he will appeal the ruling and that all he did was insult audience members who insulted him first. He also denied that he said some of the things he has been accused of, said Pardy threw a drink in his face and argued that the tribunal had no jurisdiction to hear the case.

The comedian, who has since apologized to the patrons, intends to appeal the decision, claiming his act is protected under freedom of speech laws. News of the judgment has rocketed around anti-gay and Christianist sites, with American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer declaring on Twitter: "Canadian comic pays fine of $15,000 for making fun of lesbians. But if he makes fun of Christians, gets a paycheck."
