Today's Lies From David Barton

"Congress has passed what’s called ENDA, Employment Non-Discrimination Act, passed this in ’06 under Pelosi and Reid and at that point in time, it says you cannot discriminate on the basis of hiring. As a result, the president has now announced that faith based groups have to hire homosexuals; not an option, you have to because federal law says you cannot discriminate on the basis of identity. So if a pedophile comes to the church and says I want to run your nursery, you can’t say no because that’s discriminating on the basis of identity. If a homosexual comes and says I want to be your youth director and you say no, you can’t do that, you can’t distinguish on the basis of gender." - Debunked Christianist "historian" David Barton, speaking on a wingnut podcast. Hit the link for Warren Throckmorton's point-by-point refutation of all the lies.

Today's Lie From Tony Perkins

Oh brother. The Denver bakery was allowed to decline the requested message on the cake, which was "Homosexuality Is Detestable." As the local press reported at the time of the complaint, the bakery advertises its various Christian-related products such a baptismal celebration cakes, etc. There really is nothing Tony Perkins will not lie about.

PolitiFact Calls Out Perkins As A Liar

During yesterday's Fox News Sunday showdown with Ted Olson, Tony Perkins declared that social science has conclusively proven that children do best in households headed by opposite-sex parents. The Pulitzer Prize-winning PolitiFact was quick to rate Perkins as a big fat liar.
The American Psychological Association produced a comprehensive review of studies going back three decades. The most relevant section focuses on research that compares the children of lesbian or gay parents. The studies looked at children in terms of their school performance, their relations with their peers, intelligence, self-esteem and a number of other variables. According to this review, "the belief that children of lesbian and gay parents suffer deficits in personal development has no empirical foundation."

Perkins said that based on social science, we know "that children do best with a mom and a dad." The research cited on the website of Perkins’ group, the Family Research Council, does not provide any support. It relies on books rather than peer-reviewed research, it quotes selectively or mischaracterizes from the work it cites, or at best, challenges the quality of the methodology behind findings that go against its position. In contrast, we found recent peer-reviewed social science research that finds that at the very least, children of lesbian parents do as well as other children.

We rate Perkins’ claim False.
BOOM.

HomoQuotable - Robert Oscar Lopez

"Dear Governor Brown, I work for you. I am an Associate Professor of English and Classics at California State University-Northridge. I know that a bill, AB 1951, sponsored by Jimmy Gomez of Los Angeles, may reach your desk for signature soon. It will allow for birth certificates to be issued, which indicate gay men as 'mother' and lesbians as 'father.' I would like you to veto it and please begin the process of reversing California’s destructive trend toward same-sex parenting homes. While you may have been led to believe that children raised by gay couples are delighted with their lives and view their guardians uncritically, the hidden truth is that many of us who were raised by gay couples are hurting and feel that our rights have been violated. Rather than compound California’s problem – too many kids growing up in gay homes – you need to veto this legislation and begin to reverse the process by phasing out third-party reproduction and ending gay adoption. What I am saying may seem infeasible, even shocking, but the reality is that gay parenting is a problem, not a solution." - Homocon horcrux Robert Oscar Lopez, in the opening of a lengthy letter published today by hate group leader Matt Barber.

NOTE: Lopez, of course, is lying. Gomez' bill merely offers three choices: mother, father, and parent.

A Ridiculous Lie From Rafael Cruz

"All we have to do is turn on the news and every day we see more and more encroachment upon pastors from this administration. All they have to do is be aware of what’s happening around us and to be aware, for example, that in the city of San Antonio, if a pastor speaks on Romans 1, he could be even fined $500 a day until he retracts what he said. We’ve stayed at home and we allowed the wicked to elect wicked politicians to rule us. We get what we deserve, Rick. We need to get up the charge that God is giving us and move to the forefront and call this nation to repentance and call this nation to righteousness." - Rafael Cruz, father of Sen. Ted Cruz, speaking on a Tea Party Unity conference call with crackpot Rick Scarborough, who warned that similar fines are going to imposed on Houston's pastors if Mayor Annise Parker gets her way.

Tony Perkins Has The Oklahoma Sadz

"This activist judge is overrunning both the constitution and the rule of law in a drive to fundamentally alter America's moral, political and cultural landscape. He is substituting his own ideology for the three quarters of Oklahomans who voted to preserve marriage in their constitution as it has always been defined. As the American people are given time to experience the actual consequences of redefining marriage, we are seeing the public debate and opposition to the redefinition of natural marriage intensify. In recent months, we have witnessed serious consequences of redefining marriage. For example, a Colorado baker is risking jail if he refuses to obey a court order to bake a cake for same-sex 'weddings' in contradiction to his Christian faith. [JMG: LIE!]  We have also seen same-sex marriage cited in a decision striking down Utah's law against polygamy. [JMG: LIE!] These consequences continue to draw more Americans' attention to the serious threat to free speech and religious liberty posed by the redefinition of marriage. Rather than live-and-let-live, this court by redefining marriage will force people to violate the basic teachings of their faith, or lose their jobs." - KKK-affiliated hate group leader Tony Perkins, via press release.

CNN Hosts Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins For Polygamy Discussion

Carlos Maza writes for Equality Matters:
CNN allowed hate group leader Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC), to baselessly accuse marriage equality of creating a slippery slope to polygamy after asking him whether the growing acceptance of homosexuality was to blame for the decriminalization of polygamous relationships in Utah. Once again, Perkins took CNN's bait, reveling in the opportunity to blame marriage equality for a decision that did not once mention same-sex marriage. CNN failed to inform its viewers about Perkins status as a hate group leader, his history of anti-LGBT extremism, or that his organization has a track record of being stunningly, embarrassingly wrong about predicting the consequences of LGBT equality. Instead, the network found it easier to let a hate group wax poetic about how the Supreme Court really made a mistake when it stopped letting states throw people in jail just for being gay.

Gay People Deserve Discrimination

Kyle Mantala at Right Wing Watch:
Fischer laughably went on to claim that ENDA grants special rights to gays, saying that "there's no protection in here for heterosexuals, none whatsoever ... they get no legal protections in the law." Apparently Fischer doesn't realize that ENDA would make it illegal to fire someone based on their sexual orientation ... and being straight is also considered to be a "sexual orientation."

CBN Forces Takedown Of Pat Robertson's "Gays Use AIDS Rings To Infect" Clip

Right Wing Watch has posted excerpts from the 700 Club many, many times over the years. But very curiously, today's now infamous clip of Pat Robertson's douchetastic lie about gay men has been yanked from YouTube due to a copyright claim by the Christian Broadcasting Network. We're confident that RWW will soon be able to re-post the clip as it totally falls under the fair use rules. Since the clip made it onto dozens of major sites today and the damage is already done, we must wonder what CBN is worried about.

Pat Robertson Doubles Down: I Regret That You Don't Understand That AIDS Activists Were Deliberately Trying To Infect People Like Me With HIV

"I was asked by a viewer whether she had a right to leave her church because she had been asked to transport an elderly man who had AIDS and about whose condition she had not been informed. My advice was that the risk of contagion in those circumstances was quite low and that she should continue to attend the church and not worry about the incident.

"In my own experience, our organization sponsored a meeting years ago in San Francisco where trained security officers warned me about shaking hands because, in those days, certain AIDS-infected activists were deliberately trying to infect people like me by virtue of rings which would cut fingers and transfer blood.

"I regret that my remarks had been misunderstood, but this often happens because people do not listen to the context of remarks which are being said. In no wise (sic) were my remarks meant as an indictment of the homosexual community or, for that fact, to those infected with this dreadful disease." - Pat Robertson, in a statement emailed to me by the head publicist for the 700 Club.

Pat Robertson: Gay Men Use Special Rings To Cut People And Give Them HIV

This is possibly the most outrageous thing Pat Robertson has ever said.
Today on the 700 Club, Pat Robertson told co-host Terry Meeuwsen that gay men in cities like San Francisco attempt to spread HIV/AIDS to others by cutting them with a special ring when shaking hands. However, one could not hear Robertson make the remarks on the episode his Christian Broadcasting Network posted online, as the company once again appears to have edited Robertson’s comments after they aired.
Really unfuckingbelievable.

RELATED:  Feel free to tweet CBN (@CBNproducers) and demand a public apology and a retraction of Pat Robertson's disgusting lie.  Also you can call: CBN Main Switchboard (757) 226-7000.

UPDATE:  I've just spoken with Chris Roslan, the head of the PR firm that handles the 700 Club. I told him that merely editing Robertson's disgusting lie out of their re-airings of today's show is not good enough. Roslan said he'd not yet seen today's show and will call me back. I'll let you know if that happens.

UPDATE II: CBN has posted the YouTube clip of its daily segment Bring It On-Line (where the above clip is from) and Robertson's lie is still there as of this writing. Start at the 1:00 mark.

NOM's Brian Brown Cheers France's "Peaceful" Anti-Gay Marriage Protesters

As violent anti-gay French protesters commit brutal bashings, battle riot police using toddlers as human shields,  and smash the windows of gay bars, Brian Brown writes on NOM's blog:
In France spontaneous peaceful demonstrations by young people protesting their government's determination to ignore the voice of the people is causing headaches across the country. For the government, this is becoming a major headache. These young people are making sure government officials' support for gay marriage is not forgotten. Violence did break out but not from the pro-marriage protestors. Change is coming, something new is stirring. The truth will win out.
Brian Brown has NEVER a met a lie too outrageous to make. Image via Memeograph.

Paul Cameron Repeats Same Tired Lie:
Gay Men Die 20-30 Years Early

Using Cameron's methods, one could argue that since middle school children killed in car accidents are an average of twelve years old, the life expectancy for  middle school students is twelve.  Cameron also claims that Denmark legalized same-sex marriage in 1989.  In fact, that happened just nine months ago.

NOM Busted In ANOTHER Whopping Lie

NOM has been busted in one of their most stupid lies yet - and that's really really saying something. From the Chicago Tribune:
The Chicago Bears and former linebacker Brian Urlacher denied any involvement Wednesday with the Ruth Institute -- an affiliate of the National Organization For Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage -- after an online promotion for the institute stated a clear involvement of the team. In an advertisement for its June gala at an upcoming conference, the California-based group stated, "For now, you should know that we have two fabulous raffle items from the Chicago Bears Organization (and a huge THANK YOU to the Bears for supporting our message)." Below the statement are images of an autographed Urlacher jersey and an autographed black-and-white photo of deceased Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton. "I sign a lot of stuff for charity and I don't always know where it goes," Urlacher told the Tribune. "If I would have known it was for this cause, I wouldn't have done it."
The Chicago Bears issued an official statement: "The two items featured in The Ruth Institute gala invitation were personal donations to (President) Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse. Neither was a club donation, nor do they represent the team's view on any social issues. Any remarks stating otherwise are false."

NOM's Jennifer Roback Morse, as you would expect, tried to weasel her way out of it.
Reached by phone Wednesday afternoon, Morse initially declined comment. But her website later dropped all references to the Bears at the team's request, and Morse issued a statement: "The Ruth Institute is not working with the Chicago Bears organization or any of its players past or present to promote our upcoming auction. The memorabilia we are auctioning off was acquired by me personally, not through the team or players. We understand that the Chicago Bears organization takes no position on social issues, and we regret any confusion we may have caused on this point."
It appears that NOM's story was first questioned earlier today by Equality Matters blogger Carlos Maza.  And once again we see that there is NO LIE, no matter how insanely petty, that NOM is not willing to tell. (Tipped by JMG reader Steven)

NOM Claims 15K At Hate March

That's three times the number estimated by the press and it's STILL shitty. This after six months of daily pleas for buses and money. From watching the coverage on CSPAN, it looked to me that about half of the people there were the Hispanic evangelicals bused in by NY Sen. Ruben Diaz. They certainly spent a lot of time translating from the stage.

Another Silly Lie From Rush Limbaugh

"So same-sex marriage and wiping out the Defense of Marriage Act is now a civil right. People that oppose it are bigots and nobody wants to be a bigot.  But the thing you can't say is that if left to a vote of the people, same-sex marriage loses every time it's on the ballot.  I think so far it's 30 times.  State ballots, initiatives and other things, and the Defense of Marriage Act at the federal level.  It's never passed.  You wouldn't know that, would you, by listening to the pop culture media?  You would think that this issue has overtaken everything, it's the most important issue to everybody and anybody, and that it has massive public support.  And yet every time it's been voted on by the people it has gone down to defeat.  That's why the courts have to get involved, because the people, according to the left, won't do the right thing." - Rush Limbaugh, speaking on yesterday's radio show.

Michelle Bachmann Runs Away From CNN

The lyingest liar who ever lied said this at CPAC:
"A new book is out talking about the perks and the excess of the $1.4-billion-a-year presidency that we're paying for. And this is a lifestyle that is one of excess. Now we find out that there are five chefs on Air Force One. There are two projectionists who operate the White House movie theater. They regularly sleep at the White House in order to be readily available in case the first family wants a really, really late show. And I don't mean to be petty here, but can't they just push the play button? We are also the ones who are paying for someone to walk the president's dog, paying for someone to walk the president's dog? Now, why are we doing that when we can't even get a disabled veteran into the White House for a White House tour? That isn't caring!"
The Washington Post yesterday rated Bachmann's CPAC speech a grade of "Four Pinnochios" as not a single one of her claims is true. That Michele Bachmann is an outrageous, unrepentant liar isn't exactly news, but watch how she attempts to outrun a CNN reporter, then attempts to deflect questions about her claims.

NOM Chairman John Eastman Denies He Said "Adopted Kids Are Second-Best"

"An article by the Associated Press, excised in part by The Huffington Post, grossly misrepresents my views on adoption. I believe that couples who adopt children are heroes and do a great service to society, and to the children they adopt. I strongly believe, based on thousands of years of experience and countless social science studies, that children do best when raised by a mother and a father within the bounds of marriage. I commend all those couples who selflessly give of themselves to raise a child who, through no fault of her own, has been deprived of a mother and father. There is nothing 'second best' about adoption." - NOM chairdouche John Eastman, in a statement posted on his hate group's blog.

FACT CHECK: Let's go to the tape. "Certainly adoption in families headed, like Chief Roberts' family is, by a heterosexual couple, is by far the second-best option."
