Former NOM Official: It's Over, Same-Sex Marriage Will Be Legal Nationwide In 2015

Jeremy Hooper writes at Good As You:
From 2008–2013, some of the most crucial years of the marriage equality fight, Jennifer Roback Morse was on the front lines, serving first as a Proposition 8 spokesperson and then in a six-figure, senior role with the National Organization For Marriage's Education Fund. And during that time, she said all kinds of strange and hostile things in hopes of helping NOM stop the fair and right thing. She's now stopped trying. In her most pointed comments on the subject yet, Morse is now declaring, without qualification, that America will have fifty-state marriage equality by next year.

Right Wing Writer: We Lost On Marriage

"As a lawyer, I sometimes have to deliver news that clients don’t want to hear. Here’s some for conservatives. The gay marriage fight is over. It is here to stay, and conservatives – whether for it, against it or just tired of hearing about it – need to coolly and dispassionately figure out just how we are going to win going forward. This is not a judgment about its pros and cons. We’re past that. None of it matters anymore. This is about dealing with reality. Whether the fight ends with a Constitution-twisting Supreme Court ruling or after years or decades as the states adopt it one by one, it’s a done deal. And even if you aren’t yet ready to accept that it’s lost you still need to prepare for that contingency. The question is, 'What do we conservatives do next?' - Conservative columnist Kurt Schlichter, writing for the right wing Townhall, where a couple of thousand commenters are furious.  The piece is worth reading if just for the rabid responses.

Has Another "Ex-Gay" Given Up?

You may remember John Paulk as the nationally infamous "ex-gay" activist once touted on the cover of Newsweek as the poster boy and chairman for Exodus International. Paulk was chased out of the organization some time later after activist Wayne Besen accosted him in a DC gay bar, where Paulk claimed he had only dropped in to get directions on how to get away from there. Or something.

This week it was noticed that Paulk, now the owner of a Portland, Oregon catering company, lists himself as "interested in men and women" on his Facebook page, which is littered with Glamor Shots-style images of Paulk and attractive men. Hello. Besen's own organization, Truth Wins Out, was named in response to Love Wins Out, an "ex-gay" advocacy group founded by Paulk. In response to Paulk's Facebook page, yesterday Besen asked: "What would James Dobson say?"

OMM Surrenders On JC Penney

One Million Moms says that since it's clear that JC Penney doesn't care what fascist hate groups think, they are moving on to antagonize other companies. From the AFA:
Despite opposition from the American Family Association's advocacy group One Million Moms, the retailer is backing its commitment to the Ellen DeGeneres (see earlier story). Director Monica Cole tells OneNewsNow that other issues require her group's attention, so OMM is moving on. "But we have heard back from so many of our members," she shares. "We have heard back from men and women -- not just moms -- saying they will no longer shop there at JC Penney, as long as Ellen DeGeneres is their spokesperson." Cole believes One Million Moms has done its job by educating members about the retailer and urging them to take their business elsewhere. She says only time will tell how business goes for JC Penney.
Cole closes by bitchily pointing out JC Penney's recent credit rating downgrade. That action has been coming since long before DeGeneres was hired, of course.

Shameful Surrender

No more Komen-funded breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood. If Jesus wants you to get cancer, don't get in his way. Praise! Glory! Hate groups are doing backflips all across Twitter.

JMG Sells Out!

Gentle readers, as my traffic has grown and the advertising requests have increased, I must report that I can no longer look away from blog advertising. I've been accepted into a couple of the major blog ad networks and will be adding some ads in the next week or so.

I will do my best to make the transition not-so-jarring. I'm also looking into reworking the template, which has been the same since JMG launched in the spring of 2004. Hopefully by the 3rd anniversary of JMG, we'll have a nice new look. Any suggestions are very, very welcome. I'm also considering adding discussion forums, as some readers have complained that my comment volume is off-putting. I'm not sure on that one. I happen to love that y'all are so chatty, we're pushing 40,000 comments since I added Haloscan in the second year!

I know that readers will have different views, some positive and some negative, about ads on JMG. I am eager to hear what you think about my use of ads and about any changes that I make to this here website thingy. To those advertisers who reached out to me previously, please feel free to contact me again. All except the liopsuction doctor. Not that's there's anything wrong with that.
