Bay Area commuters have a big mess to contend with after a section of the
MacArthur Maze collapsed yesterday due to a tanker fire which melted the steel supports. The MacArthur Maze is a confusing knot of superhighways that join together at the Oakland end of the Bay Bridge and has probably caused more emergency last-minute lane changes than Miami's Golden Glades interchange, and that's saying something. Public transit is free in the Bay Area today and the governator has declared a
state of emergency, enabling agencies such as BART and the ferry services to be refunded by the state. Oy, the hundreds of hours I wasted stuck in the MacArthur Maze. And that was just coming back from Steamworks!
