Paterson To Run For Governor In 2010

New York Gov. David Paterson has announced that he will run to hold his office in 2010. Paterson was elected as Lieutenant Governor on Eliot Spitzer's ticket in 2006, taking over the governorship in March this year after Spitzer resigned in a prostitution scandal.
Gov. David A. Paterson said on Tuesday that he would run in 2010 for a full term in the office he assumed after Eliot Spitzer’s resignation. Mr. Paterson also started a new political Web site that credits his leadership amid a financial downturn since he took office on March 17, when Mr. Spitzer resigned after being named in a federal prostitution investigation.

The Web site, patersonforny .com, is headlined “Leadership and accountability in challenging times.” Mr. Paterson, a Democrat, represented Harlem for 20 years in the State Senate before becoming lieutenant governor in 2006. The site also solicits campaign donations.
Paterson said that NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has promised him that he would not run for governor in 2010 if his present bid for a third mayoral term fails. Former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani is reportedly planning on running for governor. Recent polls have shown Giuliani beating Paterson in a hypothetical matchup.

Since becoming governor, Paterson has performed admirably at a time when the state is going through its worst fiscal crisis in decades. His wit, candor, and fearless support of the LGBT community has made him an overnight gay icon. Paterson 2010!
