But Still No Donna Summer

The latest round of inductees to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has been announced.
Run-DMC, the rap group consisting of Jason Mizell, Jason Simmons and Darryl McDaniels, will be among the artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The rappers (Mr. Mizell died in 2002), along with the group Metallica, will be inducted at a ceremony on April 4 in Cleveland, the hall announced on Wednesday. Others to be installed are Jeff Beck, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Bobby Womack and Wanda Jackson in the early-influences category, along with Bill Black, D. J. Fontana and Spooner Oldham as sidemen. The ceremony, which will be in Cleveland for the first time since 1997, will be broadcast live on Fuse TV. A limited number of tickets will be available to the public for the first time in the foundation’s history during a one-day walk-up sale on Jan. 24 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame box office in Cleveland and through Ticketmaster beginning on Jan. 26.
Jeff Beck? Seriously? Name me one Jeff Beck solo record. See? He's already in there with the Yardbirds anyway. Donna Summer was nominated in 2007, but Madonna got in and Summer didn't. Outrage. Artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their first record, meaning next year we may see Pet Shop Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Whitney Houston nominated. Current members are here.

RELATED: Run-DMC is only the second rap act to be inducted, partially due to the relative youth of the genre, partially because of the controversy over whether rappers are proper musicians. Last year Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five become the first rappers inducted. Beastie Boys became eligible last year, that one is bound to happen.
