NYC Is Still A Company Town

According to the second annual report from the Center For An Urban Future, the economic downturn has not hurt the number of national chain franchises in New York City, with 53 chains adding a total of 310 outlets and 62 chains closing 245 stores over the last 12 months. The most common stores in the five boroughs:

1. Dunkin' Donuts - 429 (+88)
2. Subway - 361 (+26)
3. McDonald's - 258 (+10)
4. Starbucks - 258 (+23)
5. Duane Reade - 229 (+13)

The biggest losers were ATT Wireless - 59 (-23), Pizza Hut - 20 (-19), and Blimpie - 37 (-13). Five chains completely went out of business, closing 68 locations: Office Max, KB Toys, Levitz, Circuit City, and Burritoville.
