Daffy's Chain To Close Down

The 19-store Daffy's discount clothing chain, which has outlets all over NYC, will be closing down all its locations within the next few months.
"The process will entail the gradual closing of Daffy’s stores and the liquidation of its merchandise,” Michael McMullan, a spokesman, wrote in an e-mailed statement today. Daffy’s, which doesn’t have a final date for the closure of the business, will continue to employ its associates and give them pay and benefits for at least 60 days, McMullan said. Daffy’s has about 1,300 employees.
When I first moved to town, I got a great Nicole Miller windbreaker at Daffy's for $20. I wore that thing every fall until it finally disintegrated. I also regularly bought umbrellas there for the sole purpose of immediately leaving them in taxis.
