Orthodox Woman Runs For NY Senate
Novice Brooklyn politician Mindy Meyer, who's using the above Jersey Shore-tinged campaign slogan, says she is the "first young Orthodox Jewish woman to ever run for the New York Senate." Meyer has been endorsed by the state GOP and the virulently anti-gay Conservative Party, which opposed and has since sued to overturn marriage equality. NOM has backed other Orthodox Jews for the New York Senate, but has not yet mentioned Meyer.
After receiving her BA degree from Touro College in New York, Meyer is currently studying at Touro’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center as she embarks on her political career. Her lack of political experience, however, does not daunt her, citing her own religious values and moral compass as her guide. “I can tell you one thing…I don’t have experience in corruption,” said Meyer. “That is how politics has to change.
