Color Blind

After some MTA signage misidentified the B and C trains, the New York Times wondered how many people actually navigate by the colors of the lines rather than their letters and numbers. I do tell house guests just to look for the green line after a day of sightseeing: "Green is for 'go', as in 'go home to Joe's.'" That seems to help. I'm also reminded of the words of my late aunt, who considered the West Side mostly unworthy of the presence of East Village hipsters such as herself. "Joseph, all you need to know is the letter trains hardly go anywhere good. One through nine and you'll do fine." I used that last rhyme for years. She did grant special dispensation for the former LL train as it went to Brooklyn.
