FRC Shooter Identified
NOTE: The photo I've added to this post is alleged to be the shooter according to multiple sources on Twitter. His identity is unconfirmed at this writing. Via NBC News:
The suspect’s name has not been released, but officials told NBC News he is Floyd Corkins, 28, from nearby Herndon, Va. A photographer who saw the suspect being arrested describes him as a 6-foot-3, 250-pound black male. Another official said the suspect bought the gun used in the shooting five days ago. One law enforcement official told NBC News it's fairly clear the Family Research Council was the man's target, though the FBI has yet to specify either a motive or the target of the attack. Federal officials said the suspect was carrying a backpack containing materials related to Chick-fil-A restaurants. There is a Herndon, Virginia resident with that name on Facebook, but no photos are publicly available. The only two activities or interests publicly viewable there are "Spending time with friends and family" and "Living a happy life." There's no proof yet that the Facebook account belongs to the suspect.
UPDATE: The above-linked article by NBC News no longer contains this sentence: "A photographer who saw the suspect being arrested describes him as a 6-foot-3, 250-pound black male." It's not yet apparent why that deletion was made.
UPDATE II: The shooter volunteered at DC's LGBT Center.
A man suspected of shooting and wounding a security guard in the lobby of a Christian lobbying group had been volunteering at a community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. David Mariner is executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. He says Corkins had been volunteering at the center for about the past 6 months. Mariner describes Corkins as "kind, gentle and unassuming."
