NEW YORK: Recently Arrested NY Sen. Shirley Huntley Loses Dem Primary

New York state Sen. Shirley Huntley yesterday lost her Democratic primary, leading NOM to crow that "another marriage traitor" has been unseated. The real story, of course, is that Huntley was arrested earlier this month on corruption charges.
Embattled State Sen. Shirley Huntley has lost her primary fight to hold on to the Democratic nomination for her State Senate seat. NY1 is declaring Councilman James Sanders the winner over Huntley in the Democratic primary for the District 10 State Senate nomination. Associated Press numbers as of 12:20 a.m. Friday show that with 92 percent of precincts reporting, Sanders has 57 percent of the vote while Huntley has 40 percent. Third challenger Gian Jones has 3 percent of the vote. Huntley was indicted last month after being accused of committing fraud in a conspiracy to steal taxpayer funds.
Huntley had long vigorously opposed same-sex marriage, once declaring, "If they gave me a million dollars, tax free, I just wouldn't vote for it." She abruptly changed her mind and did vote for the marriage bill once all the other Democrats (except Sen. Ruben Diaz) fell in line.
