UK MP To Intro "Ex-Gay" Therapy Ban

This week British MP Geraint Davies will introduce a national ban on "ex-gay" torture for everybody, not just minors as the states of California and New Jersey have done. No country presently has such a ban, although medical organizations in numerous Western nations have denounced the practice.
"Anyone can set themselves up as a counsellor or psychotherapist without training or experience with no recourse for the patient if something goes wrong," he said. "Millions of people, often with mental health problems who are therefore vulnerable and at risk, are being given therapy in an unregulated industry with no uniform code of conduct or ethics. I call on the Government to regulate counsellors and psychotherapists by bringing them into the jurisdiction of the Health and Care Professions Council."
Earlier this year Geraint said, "There’s obviously no need to offer treatment for something that’s not an illness. Conversion therapy is based on outdated views and dodgy science, and if people are being referred to it by their GPs then it’s a ridiculous waste of NHS time and money." His bill already has 53 co-sponsors.

NOTE: The bans in New Jersey and California are pending the appeals brought by the anti-gay Liberty Counsel.
