OHIO: Attorney General Appeals Ruling That State Must Recognize Same-Sex Marriages On Death Certificates
Back in July, a federal judge ordered the state of Ohio to recognize the marriage of James Obergefell and John Arthur on Arthur's death certificate. The couple had flown to Maryland by air ambulance to marry as Arthur was terminally ill. He has since died. Last month the same court ruled that Ohio must recognize same-sex marriages on all death certificates. Today Ohio Attorney General Michael Dewine appealed to the Sixth Circuit Court even though the lower court expressly stipulated that its ruling only applies to death certificates.
