NBC-Los Angeles Hires Homophobic Anchor Alycia Lane

You may recall former Philadelphia newscaster Alycia Lane, who was shitcanned by CBS after she got into a 2007 traffic altercation with a female NYPD officer, calling her a "fucking dyke bitch" and punching her in the face. The most serious charges against Lane were later dropped, drawing the ire of NYC's gay cops association. Lane has just been hired at NBC's owned and operated station in Los Angeles.
Lane, who had spent five years as the principal weeknight anchor for the 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts at CBS-owned-and-operated KYW [in Philadelphia] before she was let go in early 2008, will start helming KNBC's weekend evening broadcasts Aug. 29. She replaces Kim Baldonado, who in July was promoted to anchor the station's daily "Midday Report" and the weekly "News Extra" investigative reporting series. KNBC's initial news release about Lane's hiring touted her résumé and accomplishments, including two Emmys for local reporting, boosting ratings in Philadelphia and a stint as a weekend anchor and reporter for WTVJ, the NBC station in Miami. It contained no mention of the events that undercut her standing at KYW.
Just so you know her story, Los Angeles.

NYPD's Gay Cops Angered As Felony Charges Dropped Against Alycia Lane

Charges were largely dropped this week against former Philadelphia CBS anchor Alycia Lane in her traffic altercation case in which she allegedly called a female NYPD officer a "fucking dyke" and struck her in the face. Lane was fired from her TV job after the incident.
The original police complaint against Lane said the female officer suffered lacerations and swelling on her face. This week in court, however, the Manhattan prosecutors office reduced the charge to obstruction and harassment, both misdemeanors, saying that the injuries sustained by the officer did not rise to the level of physical injury that a felony charge requires. In addition, Criminal Court Judge Dina Douglas said that if Lane does not get into trouble for the next six months the charges could be dropped.
NYPD's gay cop organization, GOAL, is outraged. "If people cannot control their anger and hatred and choose to confront and injure a police officer, then what chance does the everyday citizen have of expecting a general sense of personal safety in our city?" said GOAL executive director Thomas Verni.

Here's the original police report:

Alycia Lane Fired

Alycia Lane, the Philadelphia CBS newscaster arrested last month during a traffic altercation in which she called a female cop a "dyke bitch" has been fired. From the KWY-TV president: "After assessing the overall impact of a series of incidents resulting from judgments she has made, we have concluded that it would be impossible for Alycia to continue to report the news as she, herself, has become the focus of so many news stories."

CBS Anchor To NYC Cop: You Dyke Bitch!

Alyica Lane, CBS news anchor for Philadelphia's KYW-TV, was arrested in Chelsea last night for calling a female cop a "dyke bitch" and then punching the cop in the face.

Reportedly, Lane and her boyfriend, radio disc jockey Chris Booker, got into a traffic altercation with a slow-moving unmarked police car. When the cops exited their vehicle to question Booker, Lane got out of her car to begin taking pictures. When the female cop told Lane to stand back, Lane shouted that she was a reporter, adding "I don't care that you're a cop - you dyke bitch!" That's when Lane allegedly slugged the female officer.

Lane was arrested and taken to the NYPD 10th Precinct where she was charged with assaulting an officer. The cop was treated at a hospital and released. Lane's lawyer claims she "absolutely" did not insult or assault anybody. The lawyer: "She was accosted by several individuals wearing plainclothes who violently grabbed her camera to prevent her from taking pictures of the altercation they were involved in." He said Lane "was shocked to learn that these people were police officers after the fact." Lane is currently free without bail.

It will be very interesting to see how CBS handles this. Assaulting a cop is a serious offense, but the "dyke bitch" aspect of the incident could be a career ender.
