Elton John's post-Oscar party raised a
record-breaking $4.2 million yesterday for the
Elton John AIDS Foundation, bringing the total raised since 1992 to $125 million. Among the items auctioned off were two travel packages to attend Sir Elton's 60th birthday party and concert weekend in NYC, which went for $250,000 each. Elton's legacy, like Bill Gates', will be as much for his philanthropy as for his career.
Related: Not to diminish Elton's accomplishment, but for perspective, I feel obliged to mention that the
daily cost of the Iraq war is $195 million.
