Designed by
Emma Stebbins, the first woman to receive a public art commission in NYC, Central Park's
Bethesda Fountain was built in 1873. The name is a reference to the biblical
Pool Of Bethesda, as it commemorates the
Croton Agueduct, which provided New York with its first dependable source of pure water. The fountain played a major role in Tony Kushner's
Angels In America and is a favored location for weddings and proposals. The
Farmboyz are considering the fountain area for their own wedding.
