Tip Your Waitress
I've finally caught up on True Blood, HBO's vampire drama/comedy that started a few weeks ago. Vampires have "come out the coffin" and gone public after a Japanese company perfected artificial blood. As with X-Men, there's a gay rights vs. "special rights" subtext as the public debates the Vampire Rights Act. There's also a virus that plagues vampires, gay vampire sex, and somewhat of a crystal-meth metaphor: when humans taste a tiny amount of vampire blood, they become super-aroused, manic, and addicted - leading to an underground drug market in vampire blood. (Oh, and vampire bars kinda look like leather bars.)
On the shallow side, I don't mind the several-times-per-show nude sex scenes with scruffy Australian hottie Ryan Kwanten, who also manages a pretty good Louisiana accent. But my favorite character (and the reason for this post) is Lafayette, the gay non-vampire cook played by Nelsan Ellis. Check out the clip below in which he tangles with some customers who've accused him of serving them an "AIDS burger." Language totally NSFW.
