Timothy Dolan Takes Over As Archbishop Of NY, Pledges To Fight Gay Marriage
Today the 2.5 million member New York diocese of the Catholic Church installs Timothy Dolan as Archbishop, replacing the creepily sonorous Edward Egan, who is retiring. During his homily at St. Patrick's Cathedral last night, Dolan referenced "the threats to marriage" (as well as sexual abuse by clergy) and promised to fight the impression that the Catholic Church is "unenlightened" because it opposes gay marriage and abortion.
I saw two news reports on Dolan last night and it killed me to see the happy-faced anchors burbling their inane welcomes to Dolan ten seconds after running the clip in which he denounced same-sex marriage. Today midtown will be closed down around St. Patrick's for the installation mass, I guess the taxpayers are covering that tab.
