Anti-Gay NY Sen. Bill Stachowski Ousted In Democratic Primary
NY Sen. Bill Stachowski, one of the eight Democrats who thwarted marriage equality in New York, has been ousted by Tim Kennedy, who had the backing of Fight Back NY, the Human Rights Campaign, and Empire State Pride Agenda. Via press release from Fight Back NY:
You did it! Tonight you helped Fight Back New York take down anti-equality state senator Bill Stachowski, who was defeated by pro-equality candidate Tim Kennedy in the primary election. When we announced Stachowski as a target, you pulled through with donations and support to send him home for good. With Stachowski now out, and with former state senator Hiram Monserrate's defeat back in March, you're two for two. Over the course of the past several weeks, you've helped Fight Back New York air a hard-hitting radio ad and drop 147,000 pieces of mail to thousands of targeted voters in Stachowski's district. Thanks to you, Fight Back New York's tactics are proving to be highly successful - and people are noticing. You're sending tremors throughout Albany and legislative chambers throughout the country. You've helped take out two anti-gay Democrats and replace them with two pro-equality senators. Starting tomorrow, we shift our focus to the November, and anti-equality incumbents are paying very close attention to where we focus our energies next.
