The NRA Breaks Its Silence
Today the NRA finally issued a brief statement in reaction to Sandy Hook.
The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters - and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting. The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again. The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21. Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.Last night the NRA also reinstated its Facebook page, which was taken down the day after the shooting. Gothamist has a lengthy list of comments from NRA members. Here are two samples:
"I support the NRA and the undying support they give to my right to protect my castle and my family and Common Sense! You liberals are not going to dismantle this Association!"
"You guys were criticized by the mongrels for your "silence" during all this. That was the classy thing to do. But what do the those mangy curr's on the left know about class? They were licking their lips at the chance to politicize this. Despicable."
