ENDA Set For Senate Committee Vote

Chris Johnson reports at the Washington Blade:
The Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee has scheduled the markup for the LGBT job anti-bias legislation two weeks to the day that the Supreme Court ruled against the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8. Scheduling the vote is first step for Senate HELP Committee Chair Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) in fulfilling the promise he announced this year to move ENDA out of the committee this year. All 12 Senate Democrats on the panel are co-sponsors of the legislation — in addition to Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) — so ENDA should have no trouble obtaining approval from the committee.
And right on cue, Tony Perkins:
Under ENDA, churches, Christian schools and colleges, Christian-owned businesses, and others would face federal prosecution for firing or even refusing to hire someone due to their publically displayed sexual proclivities. It would strip Christians of their religious freedom, forcing them to violate their Christian values and conscience. Some call ENDA a 'gay jobs bill.' And we know in the wake of the ObamaCare mandate that the Obama Administration is not deterred at all by the fact that such a policy would trample upon religious freedom. There is no question, that the Left wants ENDA to squeak through the House, sail through the Senate, race to the Oval Office for the President's signature, and become law. Because we've been the leading organization fighting it for years, we know ENDA.
