Ruth Bader Ginsburg: "There Is No Crying Need" For SCOTUS To Step In On Marriage
Yesterday Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke at a forum held at Manhattan's famed 92nd Street Y, where she told NPR's Nina Totenburg, “As of now, all the Courts of Appeal agree, so there is no crying need for us to step in.” When Totenburg asked if there was a chance that same-sex marriage could ever go back to being illegal, Ginsburg declined to answer, saying, "I can't give an opinion on that." The full interview can be viewed here and that part begins at the 4:00 mark.
RELATED: Totenburg also joked about the "Notorious RBG" phenomenon, which has spawned numerous t-shirts and a Tumblr. Ginsburg noted that she owns a "large supply" of the shirts.
Ginsburg: I think a law clerk told me about this tumblr and also explained to me what Notorious RBG was a parody on. And now my grandchildren love it and I try to keep abreast of the latest that’s on the tumblr. I have—and in fact I think I gave you a Notorious RBG...
Totenberg: Two of my three. I bought one.
Ginsburg: I have quite a large supply.
Totenberg: Do you have the one—what’s the one ‘you can’t have truth without Ruth'”
Ginsburg: Without Ruth. [nods]
