Broadway Friday
-Broadway may go dark next week as the stagehands union continues their negotiations with the League of American Theatres and Producers. The stagehands have been working without a contract since July. The last Broadway strike was in 2003 when a work stoppage by the musicians union forced 12 houses to go dark for four days.
-Harvey Fierstein has a MySpace blog which features many cast and production photos from the Broadway-bound musical, A Catered Affair, currently in tryouts at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre.
-Thanks to exposure on last week's Emmy Awards, the Jersey Boys cast recording is #1 on Billboard's Top Cast Albums chart this week, dethroning Wicked, which has been #1 for 81 of the 91 weeks that the chart has existed. This is the third time Jersey Boys has bounced to the top.
- MTV will air a complete performance of Legally Blonde: The Musical at 1pm on Saturday, October 13th.
-Bebe Neuwirth and Kathleen Turner will headline a free staged reading of Henri Becque's The Vultures, to take place at 8pm at Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street). The reading, which is part of Crossing the Line: FIAF Fall Festival, will be directed by Obie Award-winner Jim Simpson.
-Chaka Khan joins the cast of The Color Purple on January 9th in the role of Sofia. American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones will play Sofia for the matinees.
