California Town Considers Hosting "Carrie Prejean Day"

Her home town of Vista, California is considering staging a "Carrie Prejean Day" day because she's "such a good role model."
Trustee Jim Gibson said last week that he wanted to make June 1 "Carrie Prejean Day" in the district. He called Prejean, a 2005 Vista High School graduate, a "good, strong role model." Gibson was reportedly a local backer of Propoistion 8, which rolled back gay marriage in California. "We're setting her up as an example," he told the paper. "As far as I'm concerned, she's a great role model, and she's a person who needs to be emulated." Earlier on Thursday, the gossip Web site TMZ.com reported that the plan is running into some opposition from people who "think it's a thinly veiled attempt to promote the anti-gay marriage agenda." It was clear that many of the attendees felt the same. "It is wrong to teach bigotry and discrimination," Evelyn Thomas, a director for a local LGBT coalition, told the board. "The reality is, students ---- your students ---- are part of nontraditional families."
Prejean is reportedly "thrilled" by the idea.
