Jungle At Coachella 2015

Last night I was bouncing between Coachella's three live-stream channels and landed on the show by British nu-soul collective Jungle, who are justifiably described as Massive Attack meets Brand New Heavies. Jungle has a well-deserved reputation for being a great concert act, so you might enjoy this rendition of their 2014 single, Busy Earnin'. (Especially the percussionist.)

Coachella 2014 Lineup Announced

Billboard reports:

Outkast will headline on Friday April 11 and 18; Muse on Saturday April 12 and 19; and Arcade Fire on Sunday April 13 and 20. Other major names include Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, Lorde, HAIM, Ellie Goulding, Pet Shop Boys, The Replacements, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Neutral Milk Hotel, Lana Del Rey, MGMT, and a previously announced set by rock legends Motorhead. Some of the many fine-print highlights include Solange, ZZ Ward, Blood Orange, AlunaGeorge and John Newman, along with noted veteran acts Dismemberment Plan, Superchunk, Fishbone, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Coachella 2013 Line-Up Announced

If you embiggen the image you'll see that one of the bands slated for Friday is Deathfix, the new collaboration between Blowoff DJ/remixer Rich Morel and Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, who has also toured with Bob Mould.  Spin Magazine describes Deathfix:

Their self-titled LP debut is out February 19 on Dischord, and the first taste comes in the form of "Transmission," a nearly nine-minute slab of forceful psych that takes the listener on a seismic journey through varying terrain. There's chiming glockenspiel, motorik drum crush, swirling vocal harmonies, desolate wordless passages, loud-quiet dynamics, actual saxophone and an explosive finish. Coachella Tribute To Grace Jones

JMG reader Jeb was there when the Gossip, LCD Soundsystem, and Tashi Condelee performed Pull Up To The Bumper as a tribute to Grace Jones, who was a last minute cancellation at Coachella.

2010 Coachella Lineup Announced

Coachella just released their list of performers for this year's festival. Artists of note include Grace Jones, La Roux, Deadmau5, Public Image Limited, LCD Soundsystem, The Specials, Echo & The Bunnymen, Devo, Hot Chip, John Waters, Kaskade, MGMT, The Specials, Orbital, Yo La Tengo, Little Boots, Gary Numan, Tiesto, and Benny Benassi. (My "performers of note" may differ from yours, of course.)

The big news appears to be the reunion of Pavement, the miserable and droning band I had the misfortune of seeing a dozen times back when I repped Matador Records in San Francisco. Their parents were very nice, however. Coachella kicks off April 16th.

New Wainwright Album Drops In May

Gay heartthrob Rufus Wainwright's new self-produced album, Release The Stars, (executive producer Neil Tennant) will be released in May, following his April appearance at Coachella. The album was mixed by Marius De Vries (Madonna, Melanie C, Kylie Minogue). With De Vries' client history and with Neil Tennant as exec producer, I'm very curious how Wainwright's sound might change on Release The Stars. Check out the track listing here.
