Pennsylvania AG Kathleen Kane Celebrates Overturn Of Same-Sex Marriage Ban

"This is an historic day. More importantly, today brings justice to Pennsylvanians who have suffered from unequal protection under the law because of their sexual orientation. When state-sponsored inequality exists, citizens are deprived of the full protections that the Constitution guarantees. Our Commonwealth progressed today and so have the hopes and dreams of many who suffer from inequality. Today, in Pennsylvania, the Constitution prevailed. Inequality in any form is unacceptable and it has never stood the test of time. I have remained steadfast in my decision not to defend Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act because I made a legal determination as to the unconstitutionality of this law. I am pleased that a learned legal mind such as Judge Jones ruled similarly." - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, writing on her Facebook page. Kane refused to defend the state against the lawsuit, forcing Gov. Tom Corbett to hire outside counsel.

Kathleen Kane Vs Daryl Metcalfe

"The citizens of this great Commonwealth should be revolted that a politician such as Rep. Metcalfe is attempting to thwart an independent Attorney General from doing her job by using such a measure. I have never been afraid of or backed down from bullies. In fact, bullies strengthen my resolve to protect those who need it the most – the people of Pennsylvania. I will never be deterred by selfish rants of those who want Pennsylvania to belong to the few. We thrive on the principles of government for the people, by the people. I will continue to be the Attorney General you elected me to be." - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who is the target of an impeachment campaign by crackpot state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe because she refused to defend the state against a marriage lawsuit.

RELATED: After the DOMA ruling in June, Metcalfe used a parliamentary procedure to thwart openly gay state Rep. Brian Sims from speaking about the win on the chamber floor. Metcalfe has introduced constitutional bans on same-sex marriage for the last three years.

PENNSYLVANIA: Anti-Gay Rep Calls For Impeaching Pro-Gay Marriage Policiticans

Virulently anti-gay Pennsylvania state Rep. Daryl Melcalf has called for the impeachment of officials who back same-sex marriage.  Via the anti-gay LifeSiteNews:
State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler, has said [Attorney General Kathleen] Kane's actions merit impeachment, because they spread “lawlessness.” “I think breaking the law is worthy of impeachment,” Metcalfe told local media. “Her duty is to defend the law. Shortly after her announcement, Montgomery County Register of Wills D. Bruce Hanes began issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals, despite the fact that state law forbids such unions. As of Friday afternoon, Hanes had issued 62 marriage licenses to homosexual couples, and 13 of their recipients have completed wedding ceremonies. “By her example, this Montgomery County official felt emboldened to violate the law also,” Metcalfe said. He believes Hanes should be impeached, as well. By the laws of the state, Hanes is “charged with carrying out the law of Pennsylvania and this individual breaks the law.” “Ultimately, I think there might be an impeachment procedure,” he said. “The legislature could remove this individual from office for violating the law.”
RELATED: Two months ago Metcalf used a chamber rule to stop openly gay state Rep. Brian Sims from speaking about the historic DOMA ruling on the state House floor, saying that Sims was in "open rebellion against God's law." In 2011 and in 2012 Metcalfe introduced bills to insert a ban on same-sex marriage into the state constitution.  Both attempts failed. Still pending is the constitutional ban introduced by Metcalf in March of this year.

Quote Of The Day - Kathleen Kane

"I cannot ethically defend the constitutionality of Pennsylvania's (law banning same-sex marriage), where I believe it to be wholly unconstitutional." - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, confirming earlier reports in comments made this morning to reporters at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.  A spokesman for GOP Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has declined to comment on Lambda Legal and the ACLU's joint lawsuit to overturn the ban.
