Two Phelps Girls Defect From Westboro

Two of Fred Phelps' granddaughters have defected from the Westboro Baptist Church. One of the defectors is Megan Phelps-Roper, best known for her musical parodies mocking Lady Gaga and other pop stars.  She writes on Medium:

We know that we’ve done and said things that hurt people. Inflicting pain on others wasn’t the goal, but it was one of the outcomes. We wish it weren’t so, and regret that hurt. We know that we dearly love our family. They now consider us betrayers, and we are cut off from their lives, but we know they are well-intentioned. We will never not love them. We know that we can’t undo our whole lives. We can’t even say we’d want to if we could; we are who we are because of all the experiences that brought us to this point. What we can do is try to find a better way to live from here on. That’s our focus. Up until now, our names have been synonymous with “God Hates Fags.” Any twelve-year-old with a cell phone could find out what we did. We hope Ms. Kyle was right about the other part, too, though – that everything sticks – and that the changes we make in our lives will speak for themselves.

Westboro: We'll Burn Korans Anyway

Having already predicted on Twitter that Pastor Terry Jones "would cave under pressure," the Westboro Baptist Church vows that they'll conduct a Koran burning of their own. Jones has protested with the Phelps family in years past, but apparently earned their enmity since then. Probably because he got more publicity than they did.

The Megan Phelps Interview

Same-sex marriage is a fait accompli in this nation. I remember taking a government class and they were talking about the full faith and credit clause of the constitution. If all these states have to recognize marriages from other states and you already have Massachusetts, Iowa – they have same-sex marriage. The constitution trumps DOMA, so doesn’t everyone have to recognize those marriages? That’s a fact. Same-sex marriage is fait accompli. It’s going to happen. It’s going to be everywhere and I’m pretty sure that trial in California, I would be willing to bet that they’re going to say that homosexuals have the right to marry and it’s going to spread all across this nation. And I am happy about that.

She's happy because same-sex marriage brings us that much closer to the end of the world. Or something. Read the entire interview.

Westboro's Gaga: The Video

Last month we had a lot of fun with Megan Phelps-Roper's anti-gay parody of Lady Gaga. Today we learn from Towleroad, there's now a video! Hooray! If we didn't have the Phelps, we'd have to invent them.

Westboro Baptist Church's Megan Phelps-Roper doesn't just think she looks like Lady Gaga, she actually does a not-terrible parody of Poker Face. (I totally LOL'd at the first "God hates you" aside.) Let's give some holiday props to the clown circus that is the Phelps family, they help us in so many ways!
