Modern Family Star: No Pics With Frothy

Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet this week revealed that he turned down Rick Santorum when asked to take a photo together at the White House Press Correspondents Dinner. Stonestreet: "Rick Santorum wanted a picture with me. It was at a time when he was publicly saying, 'Gay marriage, gay marriage [is wrong],' and I'm like, 'You know, I can't do it.' It was with him and his kids or something like that, and I said, 'I'd be happy to take a picture with the kids, but I can't just be in a picture with you."

Iran Copies Modern Family

Via Pink News:
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting TV channel has rewritten US sitcom Modern Family without gay dads Mitch and Cam, whose plot line has been replaced with that of a straight couple. The network’s new show Haft Sang is a near scene-for-scene remake of Modern Family, but with some character’s genders changed in some circumstances to avoid pre-marital mixing of men and women. Fans of the US sitcom, who illegally download American shows to get around Iranian state censorship, discovered the similarity between Modern Family and Haft Sang. One of these fans put together a comparison video to show how blatantly Haft Sang duplicates Modern Family.

ACLU To ABC: Have Cam & Mitch Marry

The ACLU is prodding ABC to have the gay characters on Modern Family get married.
Having two main characters in a wildly popular show get married would put the issue of marriage equality in living rooms across the country and generate conversations about the importance of allowing same-sex couples to marry – the kinds of conversations that we know change hearts and minds. And because it's a weekly series, the message won't go away during the closing credits. It will be back next week, and the weeks after that, and again during summer reruns. The wedding would demonstrate that marriage —with its unique recognition of love and commitment— matters. And it's a choice that should be readily available.
The ACLU's petition is here.
