NEW YORK: Journalist Mona Eltahawy Arrested For Defacing Pam Geller's Anti-Islam Subway Billboard

Well-known activist/journalist Mona Eltahawy was arrested tonight after spray-painting one of Pam Geller's anti-Islam billboards in the Times Square subway station. One of Geller's supporters was apparently lurking nearby and attempted to intervene, spurring a shoving confrontation with Eltahawy, who was also arrested during last year's riots in Egypt's Tahrir Square, where she suffered a broken arm and hand during the melee. Eltahawy, whose denouncements of the Muslim Brotherhood have appeared in the New York Times and other major newspapers, is on the board of directors of the Progressive Muslim Union of North America.

NOTE: Journalist Max Blumenthal is querying Geller and her supporters on Twitter about whether they knew that Eltahawy would be at that station. Blumenthal says, "It's pretty apparent the whole thing was a staged media spectacle." He adds: "It wasn't an admirable act. It was a daytime talk show style act."
