Ruben Diaz: I Support Stop-And-Frisk
New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, who is black and Hispanic, supports the racist stop-and frisk policy of the NYPD. Posted yesterday to his official state website:
We cannot allow the killing to continue. We cannot allow the violence to continue. We cannot continue to tell parents of innocent victims “I’m sorry and I feel your pain,” while practically giving criminals and thugs carte blanche to continue with these shootings. I understand that there are many people that will not go along with my decision to support the Stop and Frisk Policy but if the Stop and Frisk policy can make a difference, then we need to realize that it’s time to support Stop and Frisk. The New York Times notes that 87% of those stopped last year by the NYPD were black or Hispanic: "According to a report by the New York Civil Liberties Union, during the 10 years of the Bloomberg administration, the police have performed 4,356,927 stops, including 685,724 last year. Among African-American males ages 14 to 24, the number of stops last year was greater than their total population."
