Ruben Diaz: My Wife Was Denied City Job Over Position On Gay Marriage

New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, the leading anti-gay nutcase in the legislature, is screaming that his wife was denied a job with New York City because she opposes same-sex marriage. Via the Observer:
A Bronx state senator is charging that Comptroller Scott Stringer denied his wife a job because she opposes same-sex marriage–even though Mr. Stringer’s office claims she was never offered a position. State Senator Rubén Díaz Sr., a conservative Democrat, said in an email today that his wife, Leslie Díaz, was recently offered an unspecified position in Mr. Stringer’s office. When Mr. Stringer found out that she, like her husband, is not a supporter of same-sex marriage, the offer was rescinded, according to Mr. Díaz. “Leslie’s co-workers gave her a very nice going away party. We were all very happy that Leslie was going to be working for the New York City Comptroller’s Office,” Mr. Díaz wrote in one of his periodic emailed missives known as “What You Should Know.” “Then, two days before her expected start date for her new position, she got a phone call informing her that Scott Stringer had just received a copy of a video that shows Leslie standing and participating with me–her husband–at a peaceful demonstration that we held in opposition to same-sex marriage,” he continued. Mr. Díaz said his wife was informed that because of the video, Mr. Stringer, a fellow Democrat and backer of same-sex marriage, would not offer his wife the job.
A spokesman for Stringer says that Diaz is spewing "nonsense" and that his wife was never even in consideration for the position. Diaz, you surely recall, bused in the majority of the attendees at the last two hate marches organized by NOM. (Via Aksarbent)

WaPo Reports On NOM's Hate March

Via the Washington Post:
Busloads of people from across the country descended onto the Mall on Saturday to voice opposition to same-sex marriage. This week, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on whether state restrictions on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. “Children don’t need experiments,” said Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Ky., president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. “They need the love of their mother and father, wherever possible.” The crowd was overwhelmingly Latino, many rallying behind New York state Sen. Rubén Díaz Sr. (D), a Bronx minister, who rallied the crowd in Spanish. Several held Catholic red banners and March for Marriage signs printed in English and Spanish.

The crowd chanted a Spanish phrase that roughly translates to “Without God, the country is going down.” Dulce Nuñez said she was supposed to work Saturday at a hotel in Manhattan but decided to instead come to Washington on her church’s bus. “The courts have no right to change what God made,” said Nuñez, 39. “We fight for children.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Rick Santorum, a former Republican senator from Pennsylvania, wanted to send videos to the rally, but National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown said organizers chose to focus the event on religious leaders. He noted that several Republican presidential candidates were in Iowa on Saturday for a Faith and Freedom Coalition rally.
Brown claims attendance was 7000.

New York State Sen. Ruben Diaz: NOM Gave Me 117 Buses For Their Hate March

"You should know that this coming Saturday, April 25th, 117 buses will take more than 6,000 people to Washington, D.C. These buses are being donated by the National Organization for Marriage, led by my friend, Brian Brown. The buses will leave from all parts of the New York metropolitan area - including Long Island where Apostle Carlos Luis Vargas, President of the International Freeport Bible Center is taking 20 buses, and New Jersey where Bishop Jose Lopez, President of the Evangelical Pastor’s Association of Hudson County is in charge of another 20. The buses will arrive in Washington, D.C. at 12:00 noon where a prayer vigil will take place in front of the United States Supreme Court. We will be joined by people of faith from all parts of the nation. The purpose of this prayer vigil is to praise our God and to pray for the very important decision about same-sex marriage that the Supreme Court will render this year. Therefore, we have decided to travel to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. where the Supreme Court is located, and there we will publicly praise our Lord and pray for His intercession so He could lead the minds of the Justices to make the right decision." - New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, who last year claimed that he was bringing 100 buses to Hate March II. Attendance last year was estimated at 2000 total, so obviously that was a lie.  (Via Good As You)

RELATED: During his failed attempts to stop same-sex marriage in New York, Diaz twice led hate marches through the streets of New York City. Brian Brown helped carry the banner in the second march in 2011, which culminated with a call for the death penalty for homosexuality while Diaz' gay granddaughter, Erica Diaz, stood in plain view in the audience. See my slideshow of that day. NOM later stole my video of Brian Brown's speech and posted it to their YouTube channel without permission or attribution. Attendance at both Diaz hate marches was inflated by busing in the New Jersey listeners of a Hispanic evangelical talk radio station.

NOM Unveils 2015 Hate March Speakers

Not exactly the A-list, is it? In fact, there's only one elected official on the roster and that's Democratic New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz. Also curiously missing from the list is San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, who spoke at last year's hate march and is currently fighting an internal Catholic revolt back at home.

Candidate For Dominican Presidency:
I Won't Act Like A Faggot To Win Polls

Andres Duque reports at Blabbeando:
Last week former Dominican Republic president Hipólito Mejía brought a new bid for the Caribbean nation's presidency to the United States. I hadn't paid much attention until NY1 Noticias played a clip of statements he made while in New York citing the Bible and saying he opposed same-sex marriage. "I call bread 'bread' and wine 'wine.' The other day [Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr.] asked my opinion regarding same-sex marriage," Mejia says, "Be fruitful and multiply? There is no way you can do it that way!" meaning gays cannot procreate and, hence, should not be able to marry. Neither the statements nor the setting were a surprise. Mejía enjoys a strong relationship with Senator Diaz, perhaps the leading Latino anti-marriage equality voice in the nation, and has allowed the Senator to host previous press conferences.

At the Diaz event Mejía admitted he once confronted gay issues with overt homophobia. "In the past I used to have a have a deadly antagonistic stance [against gays]" he says, "Nowadays I can even laugh about it." If that was in the past, he seems to have forgotten about it the next day when he made a campaign appearance in New Jersey. Standing before a campaign flag that promises "equality," Mejía doesn't mention same-sex marriage but jokes that his campaign handlers wanted him to wear a wig during media appearances if he wanted poll numbers to improve. Then he says: "There are people who can change everything about you, even the way you sit down" and says they tried to convince him to sit "the way a little faggot does." The place erupts in laughter.

RELATED: The speaker of the New York City Council reacts:
"I am appalled that a former Dominican Republic president and a potential future presidential candidate has used a derogatory term that is offensive, inappropriate and hurtful toward LGBT people. President Mejia needs to apologize to the LGBT community in his country and here in New York, where he made this unacceptable statement. Leaders are called to unite people, not divide us. That includes those who invited him here and stayed silent when discrimination occured and even worse, laughed at it. I stand with the LGBT community here, in the Dominican Republic and elsewhere, and I will not be silent when bigotry shows its ugly face.”

Leader Of Neo-Nazi Backed French Hate Group Joins NOM's March On SCOTUS

Second from the left holding the banner is Ludovine Rochere, the head of France's anti-gay Manif Pour Tous, which is supported at home by the neo-Nazi National Front Party, whose Holocaust-denying founder has been repeatedly convicted of inciting racial and religious hatred. Last week Pope Francis invited Rochere to a private mass where she presented him with a Manif Pour Tous sweatshirt. To the immediate left of Brian Brown is New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz and convicted drunk driver Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.

NY Sen. Ruben Diaz: I'm Bringing 100 Buses To NOM's Hate March In DC

New York state Sen. Rubin Diaz, who is possibly the most viciously anti-gay Democrat in the nation, claims to be bringing 100 buses of Hispanic evangelicals to NOM's hate march in Washington DC next month. Brian Brown has issued a money beg:
I just recently got off the phone with my good friend, New York State Senator, Rev. Ruben Diaz, who will be speaking at the March again this year. He told me that he plans to bring down over 100 buses to the March from the Bronx this year! He is calling it the "Second Annual Bus Vigil to Washington." He plans to depart New York at 4:00 am in a spiritual convoy of activists coming to the nation's capital to defend marriage! That's over 5,000 people — overwhelmingly Latino and African-American constituents — that a single political and spiritual leader wants to bring to Washington DC this summer! Beyond even that, the requests we've received from spiritual leaders have been truly overwhelming. Almost daily we are receiving requests from poor churches, asking us for assistance in bringing thousands of marriage champions to Washington DC to attend the March and make their voices heard in our nation's capital. We have committed to helping Rev. Diaz fund those 100 buses out of New York and we'd like to help fund as many additional buses as possible so that everyone who wants to attend the March will be able to do so!
RELATED: During New York's battle for marriage equality, Diaz staged two massive anti-gay marches in New York City for which he bused in thousands of Hispanic evangelicals from northern New Jersey. At the second march in 2011, Brown and Diaz strolled arm-in-arm to the steps of the Bronx County Courthouse where a Christian radio preacher invoked Leviticus, bringing roars of approval when he declared that gay people are "worth of death." My slideshow of that hate march is here.

Quote Of The Day - Ruben Diaz

"You should know that Erick Salgado is the President of the Council of Youth Christian Churches. Not satisfied with the moral, civic, cultural and political status of New York City according to Mr. Salgado, “after careful consultation with his family, with Mr. Gregory Davidzon and others”, Erick Salgado decided to become a candidate in the Democratic Primary for the Office of Mayor that will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2013.

"Salgado’s problem, now, is how to raise millions of dollars to allow him to pay for radio, tv and newspaper advertising in order to compete with the other candidates’ millions – and to let New York City voters learn more about his platform and agenda for the city. Salgado could declare that he is a homosexual, go to the City Hall Clerk, get a license, marry another man in a public garden, and become the very first male New York City mayoral candidate who is officially married to a man. If he does this, I am absolutely certain that he will get millions and millions of dollars in free publicity.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the problem with Erick Salgado is that he is an Evangelical Minister, a teacher and a preacher of the Gospel of Christ and a believer." - New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, on the mayoral candidacy of NOM-endorsed Erick Salgado, who helped Diaz and NOM organize their anti-gay hate rally in the Bronx in 2011.  (Tipped by JMG reader Colin)

Bronx Borough President & Son Of NY Sen. Ruben Diaz Endorses Marriage

"After considerable deliberation and introspection, I support marriage equality. My decision, which comes after years of thought and reflection on the issue, is informed by the experiences I have had with close friends, family and loved ones. For example, my chief-of-staff, Paul Del Duca, has for decades worked to help the people of this City. He has helped people find housing and jobs, he has dedicated his professional life to assisting those in need. Why, then, should he and his partner Damion—whose wedding I stood witness to—be denied the same rights of any other loving and committed couple? Moreover, why should my niece, Erica Diaz, be denied the ability to get married when her time comes?" - Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., writing on his official website. (Tipped by JMG reader David)

VERY RELATED: Diaz is the son of New York Senator "Reverend" Ruben Diaz, the only Democrat to vote against marriage equality in his chamber and the buffoon clown accomplice of NOM.  The elder Diaz has led two large anti-gay hate marches through the streets of New York City, the most recent of which literally ended on the steps of the Bronx Borough Hall, the location of his son's office. Erica Diaz, mentioned above, is the granddaughter of the elder Diaz.

NY Sen. Ruben Diaz: We Have 30 Buses

Via press release posted to the official state government website of crackpot NY Sen. Ruben Diaz:
New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-NY) will lead the all-night vigil of thirty (30) buses sponsored by the National Organization for Marriage bound for Washington, D.C. to join the March for Marriage demonstration in front of the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. The thirty (30) buses filled with Pentecostal ministers and members of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization will depart from various locations in New York at midnight, and gather at 9:00 AM in front of the United States Supreme Court. "We will be praying all night, and when we arrive in Washington, DC. we will be peacefully demonstrating with thousands of Americans from all over the United States - including Puerto Rico," said Senator Rev. Diaz. "We believe marriage is between a man and a woman. It's as simple as that."
Diaz is a veteran of anti-gay hate marches and has twice led thousands of chanting Hispanic evangelicals, red-caped Catholic loons, and Orthodox Jews through the streets of New York City. My slideshow of Diaz' most recent NYC march is here.

NY Sen. Ruben Diaz: We Will Pray All Night On The Way To The Supreme Court

"You should know that on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 12:00 midnight, the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization will hold an all-night vigil on buses bound to Washington, D.C., to join the National Organization for Marriage who is organizing a demonstration on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 9:00 AM in front of the United States Supreme Court.

"You should know that the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has always been in the forefront, throughout the nation, in the struggle to stop same sex marriage. It is also a fact that for many years, NOM has been raising funds, and coordinating every march and demonstration in the state of New York and everywhere else." - NY Sen. Ruben Diaz, posting on his official state government webpage.

You should ALSO know that it was a member of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization who stood on the steps of the Bronx Courthouse with Diaz and Brian Brown to scream that gay people are worthy of death.  I wonder if THAT guy will do the same on the steps of the US Supreme Court.

Ruben Diaz Cheers His Third Hate March

"You should remember that when Governor Andrew Cuomo used his office and staff to raise money and to orchestrate the passing of gay marriage in the State, it was the National Organization for Marriage among others, who took the fight on their shoulders. With their help, we organized different rallies and demonstrations where thousands of people came together, in front of Governor Cuomo’s office in Manhattan, On the steps of the Supreme court of Bronx County and in many other places.

“Now, one more time, NOM is giving us the opportunity to join people from all over the nation, in what could be our last opportunity to deal with same sex marriage once and for all. Due to the fact, and you should know, that with the ruling of the United States Supreme Court, same sex marriage will be legal or illegal in every state in the nation, including Puerto Rico and any other colony of the United States.” - New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz, on his participation in what will be his third anti-gay hate march.

NOM's Hate March: A Cavalcade Of Crackpottery And One Catholic Drunk

NOM today published the above list of speakers scheduled for their hate march on the Supreme Court.  Hopefully there'll be an open bar for busted drunk driver Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone and an emergency Botox station for Concernstipated Women head Penny Nance.  And we can only presume that New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz will bring along the same speaker who told attendees at the last NOM hate march that homosexuals are "worthy of death."  As for "Bishop" Harry Jackson, let's just hope he doesn't curse the Washington Blade into bankruptcy, as he claims to have done with other "Satanic gay publications."  DC police should also keep an eye on Jim Garlow, who has called on pastors to emulate to the Founding Fathers and "pick up a musket" against evil homosexuals.

Ruben Diaz Has 10 Wishes For 2013

Crackpot anti-gay New York Sen. Ruben Diaz has ten wishes for the new year.
1. For Senator John Sampson, to find better and more faithful friends.

2. For reporters Bob Kappstatter, from the Bronx Times and Jim Odato from the Times Union, to learn how to be impartial and objective journalists.

3. For Senator Jeff Klein and his Gang of Four, to find a parachute to allow them to make their landing easy and soft when Senator Dean Skelos and the Republicans - fearing the Conservative Party - reject their support for a progressive agenda, leaving the Gang of Four out in the cold.

4. For Senator Malcolm Smith, to find another minority to join him in order for him not to be the only Uncle Tom in the house.

5. For Assemblyman-Elect Luis Sepulveda, to take it a little bit easier with a little more patience and wait for his time, because it will come.

6. For my three friends, Carl Kruger, Pedro Espada, and Hiram Monserrate, to try to get together in 2013 while they are away [JMG: "away" means "IN PRISON"] and write a book instructing Jeff Klein and the Gang of Four how to deal with Dean Skelos and what to expect from him.

7. To Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, to buy a back-stabbing proof vest.

8. For Senator Adriano Espaillat, to get a big handkerchief to wipe away his saliva because Charlie Rangel will be there for many years more - and aside from that, Adam Clayton Powell is warming up in the bullpen.

9. For Governor Andrew Cuomo, to be honest enough to admit that he has been the creator of the mess in the New York State Senate.

10. As for myself, should these nine other wishes come true, that I will be able to take a break and keep my mouth shut.
Diaz closes, as always, with his preferred official title: "This is Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know."
