NEW JERSEY: Palin & NOM Endorsee Steve Lonegan Loses US House Primary
All that stumping by Sarah Palin was for naught. Via Politico:
Tom MacArthur defeated Steve Lonegan in New Jersey’s 3rd District Republican primary Tuesday and will face Democrat Aimee Belgard in the fall, according to The Associated Press. MacArthur, a former insurance executive, won 60 percent of the vote, and Lonegan, a conservative activist, won 40 percent, with 41 percent of precincts reporting. In the Democratic primary, Belgard won with a commanding 78 percent of the vote. MacArthur loaned his campaign at least $2 million, giving him a cash advantage over Lonegan, who is best known for being the outspoken GOP nominee against Cory Booker in the special Senate election last year. In addition to falling short in the Senate race, Lonegan also lost a primary bid to Chris Christie in the 2009 gubernatorial primary.
