The Big Gay Ice Cream Song
Former Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlin has released Big Gay Ice Cream Song, her tribute to NYC's Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. The clip hasn't appeared on YouTube yet, but can be previewed and downloaded on iTunes. Wiedlin calls the tune "three minutes of sugary pop goodness, sort of like ice cream for your ears." You can follow Big Gay Ice Cream Truck proprietor Doug on Twitter to find his location and today's specials.Labels: Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, Go-Go's, NYC, pop music

The Vendy Awards Like Gay Ice Cream
NYC's Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, which I mentioned here in June, is up for a Vendy Award, an honor granted to the best of Gotham's street vendors.“Doug’s soft serve is anything but vanilla. Big Gay Ice Cream Truck has a unique and always-changing menu of toppings like curried coconut, wasabi pea dust, trix, sea salt and extra virgin olive oil. And really all I can say is Choinkwich: Yummy caramelized bacon, soft serve chocolate ice cream between two cartwheel cookies. Best ice cream sandwich ever.”I haven't run into the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck yet, but its owner thanked me for blogging about him by offering me a "free topping." Rimshot!

The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck
New to Gotham, the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. Via Serious Eats:Rainbow sprinkles might mean something a little different on a soft serve cone from The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. Doug Quint, a New York-based bassoonist who just finished coursework for his musical arts doctorate at CUNY, is rolling out his playful new mobile dessert business as soon as his permit shows up (hopefully next week). "Let's face it, ice cream trucks are kind of queer, and a middle-aged white man driving one is pretty suspect," Quint said. "That's not to say that I'm a rolling hotbed of perversion. Hardly the case. It's all in the name of silly." That means his Twitter updates (@biggayicecream—yes, he's another street vendor on Twitter) won't be limited to the truck's whereabouts, but also involve haikus and requests for good cha-cha music. There are a few noticeable differences between him and Mister Softee. For starters, his concern for Proposition 8 in California, but also his topping selection. The BGICT will offer olive oil and sea salt, Nutella, bacon, and any suggestions from his clientele, who will earn freebies when they sport his apparel (the tank top is called the "husband beater").Visit the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck's blog. I want the official t-shirt.
